price caps

Reading an article online about the English premiership meeting about prices for away fans being capped..

Do you think this is a route we should go down up here? I know that Utd have contacted clubs this season about gaining entry for cheaper with your season ticket which in my opinion has been a great effort and if we had done this for saturday 3pm kick offs we would have had bigger supports. (i dont think it really increased the away support of motherwell but it did partick.) but do you think clubs should be doing more to make it cheaper across the board for home and aways fans or reducing away entry prices only?

Has it worked that well when we have reduced gate prices for home/away fans and been worthwhile?

I cant see gate prices being lowered across the board as they are going up so it would be an away price freeze only which again i cant see happening.. It will only work with this down in England as they are getting the big TV deal which the clubs will use for the 20s plenty deal for away fans.

Re: price caps

I've said it many times...

Tenner for an adult, fiver for OAPs and bairns.

Share gates.

All kick offs at Saturday 3pm.

Sign a TV deal that fits in with that.

See where that takes us.

If Scottish football has been pushing up gate prices way above inflation and signing TV deals in order to stay competitive with other European leagues, then it clearly hasn't worked.

Get back to basics and pledge to stick with it for at least ten years. I'm convinced our game would be in far better nick by the end of it.

Re: price caps

In simple terms I compare football as an entertainment to other entertainments. As an example, we pay far more than you would if you wanted to see a picture at the cinema.

Yet at the cinema, you won't be forced to sit on a cold plastic seat, you know the picture won't be spoiled by a poor referee, and there won't be a bunch of pig ignorant police and stewards standing watching you 'enjoy' the entertainment. You won't have to attend the cinema at 12:30 on a Sunday to view your choice of entertainment, and the film industry, although there may be many unlikeable people involved, isn't totally run for the benefit of two actors.

Re: price caps

Main problem here is every penny counts, the tv deal down there more than subsidises a reduced price cap. With increased revenue streams and clubs reaching a sustainability this may become possible in the furture. For the time being the individual arrangements with clubs like we have been doing is possibly the best we can hope to get in the short/medium term. Although I believe it could be improved, increased publicity of it with plenty prior notice may get some more going who would never have bothered. And maybe all clubs concerned could create something a bit more official with all clubs talking about it together rather than individually under one banner/group.
