Negative team selection screwed us today. No footballers or creative players on the park. Trying to play for a flukey 1-0 win might be good enough for St Mirren or Kilmarnock but when you are the manager of Dundee United you should be aiming a little bit higher. Players out there did their best but at least two of the boys like Connolly, Telfer and Erskine should've been on from the start. Seek.

McNamara is fecking useless!

Gutted at the result. Our fans were great, makes you proud to be a United fan.
I would have liked Connolly to start, but essentially happy with how we set ourselves out and we were coping well until Dillon had to go off for treatment. Slightly negative yes, but feel it was right for the game. We were dealing with their attacks and if the game plan had worked we could have picked our time to bring on a couple guys to provide more of an attack once Celtic had wore themselves out a bit. On the whole cannot fault the players, they were up for it and showed some grit. Thought McGowan was good and will become an important player for us.
Madden was just desperate, completely desperate to give Celtic every opportunity and caution or send off our players. 11 v 14 is hard enough, 10 v 14 at 1-0 is an uphill struggle.

Agree with this. Still feeling a bit raw and disappointed. Thought the fans were great though. Why do I have a sneaky feeling about Wednesday...

Just weren't good enough on the day. That about sums it up.
One of the biggest critics of Scottish refs usually, and not having seen anything again, I reserve the right to change my mind, but I thought he got most of the big things right today.

I had no problem with the team selection or formation but as soon as we went a goal down he had to change it.

Have to admit thought Dillons foul was a hard tackle, but a sending off? Very harsh. When we went down to 10, it seemed to just kill the game off. Have to look at the footage to see about our "penalty" claim. Commentators on radio seemed to think it was one. Celtic penalty looked like a dive to me. Had a great few minutes arguing with Celtic fans at the time about this. I was right on the very end seat in the upper section with only a few empty between us and them.
Didnae think it was a great game of football. Seen better. Didnt think Celtic were up to much. We did well with 10 to keep it in reach.
McGowan gets Yellow for his 1st foul, but I count Bitter Biton fouled 4 times previous to that, 2 of them looked like b@stards if I'm honest.

Dillon didn't deserve to go for that, a booking would have been enough, wasn't exactly a deliberate leg breaker from what i saw. Unlike Scott Brown last week

Total lack of creativity fucked us today..
I thought we where doing better just before they got the 2nd.

Team was awful. Cannot believe we knew it the day before as well.

Dillon's was a straight red when you see it on TV, got the boy right on the ankle with his studs.
We are now fucked for a LB on Wednesday.

It is what it is. Jackie should have made a change when Dillon went off for treatment. We were doing away fine up until that point
You'd get away with it v St Mirren etc but not v Celtic. As soon as they scored I knew that was that. Red card confirmed that. Was relieved when they scored their 2nd because if somehow we'd have scored an equaliser we would have got beat in ET.
There was a lack of creativity but thought the team was set out ok but we needed to get to half time all square for game plan too work. Loss of Ciftci and the 2 who shouldn't he mentioned was just too much. Defeat on Wednesday and it's season over and this season looks like being an even bigger wet pump than last season.

I can't wait to be presented with the transfer fee cup though

The morning after the day before...
Rough.
Anyway, my thoughts on yesterday are that the display was fantastic, didn't have a clue what it was when under it but seen photos last night.
The fans were superb from first to last minute, the club is very lucky to have us, faithful through and through.
The team selection was shit, a cup final with Rankin and McGowan as your "wingers". There was no danger we were going to win with that team. The Dillon subby/not subby was the punchline.
I thought the starting eleven grafted hard, which is the absolute minimum you expect and accept from them in any game, Fojut was out biggest threat up front in the last 3 mins.
Rado was great again, Dixon and Dillon were poor with even worse distribution. Morris was shaky, Fojut decent, Butcher looked good, Pates and Rankin were off the pace and couldn't pass the ball to a team mate all game. McGowan, Dow and Bilate done okay in bits but I expect more.
The sub's, Jesus wept.
Celtic are a poor team but thoroughly deserved their victory, might have been a lot different with Connolly up against Ambrose but we'll never know.

Just put myself thru the main parts again and the brown push on Dow should be a pen. Thought at the time it was shoulder to shoulder, but blatantly in the back.
Dillo's is a red all day unfortunately and their pen was a pen.

I think mcnamaras tactics and team selection gave us our only hope of winning. When was the last time a Scottish team went to glasgow and beat Celtic playing attacking football. Aberdeen had a go lost 4-0 St johnstone played the containing game won 1-0. We all would have preferred United to attack more however the fact is Celtic are streets ahead of United, not 1 of our starting 11 would have got in Celtics starting 11.
