Yes mate, I used to live in Springfield, then Cupar, then Ladybank, all in the same wee area as you would know Roger. I joined the Retained fire service at Cupar when I was 18 for 4 years before I went full time, and in those 4 years it was horrendous with car crashes, road accidents etc. Busiest period of my career for fatalities in that time, double figures and 1 of them was my friend from high school.

The roads around there are terrible, especially the A92 stretch from Dundee to Freuchie road where that accident was. My condolences to your friends Roger.

One of the best things I done was moving my work away from my old haunts so I didn't go to an incident knowing the person or knowing someone who knows them etc. I also did get the opportunity when I got moved to the old Fife HQ at Thornton as part of a promotion to organise the Safe Drive Stay Alive campaign for 2008 and 2009, which basically, with the help of the Police, Ambulance Sevice, Social Work and people affected by road accidents get together to do a very hard hitting 1 hour show about what happens at a car crash and the effects it can have for everyone involved for every 5th and 6th year at high school and colleges in Fife at the Rothes Halls in Glenrothes for free. We provided free buses to transport them to and from their school to the show, in one week we get over 6000 young adults to see the show. We tried to be pro-active instead of re-active. It's something I'm very proud to have been part of, I wish we could do more, it's something I obviously care very much about.

Anyway enough of the doom and gloom stuff, with every bad incident we get there is always a funny one as well, like the time we got called out to a Rangers fan stuck up a tree (drunk guy on a date climbed way too high and shat it and couldn't come back down), when i clocked his Rangers top I told the guys just to leave him up there  And if we ever meet up at a game ask me about the time I got called to a ladies bedroom who was lying there naked and couldn't move because one of the bed springs popped out the bed and was now wedged in her backside

Good to have you back Roger

No wanting to rub salt in m8, but is that the accident near the big circle up from Freuchie that there's been a fair bit about in the Courier over the past few days?

Re: FAO Roger the Alien

Yes Billy it is.

Since I joined the Fire Service in 1998 there have been at the very least 23 fatalities on the A92 Dundee to Glenrothes road, and sadly 3 of those were just in the last month just 2 miles apart.

Action should have been taken years ago to try and make the road safer, instead of politicians trying to score points with lip service after the accidents have happened.

Re: FAO Roger the Alien

Good to be back boys, hopefully bringing us 3 pts on sunday! cracking stories Sieb

The A92 Is a horrendous road, I'll always remember the 4 school kids who's car crashed and they all died, must of been out 2003, ever since then they should've sorted It.
