I want a new camera for my Dundee holiday in October. First, though, I confess to being a complete dummy in this field so would be grateful for any input.
I want digital so that my efforts can go to my computer. I want a conventional (old-fashioned?) viewfinder, not just a screen which is useless in sunlight. I'll need various cables to do the PC connection. Memory card? Anything else I might need?
Price up to about £200 would be ideal.
Cheers in advance for your help.

You are right about the screen - great to use normally, but difficult in the sunlight.
Unfortunately most have done away with a traditional viewfinders all togther but I think they are creeping back in due to demand.
The Panasonic Lumix brand has always had a good name, and also from experience would recommend it. However I do not think you will go far wrong with any of the other recognised brands - Fuji, Nikon, Olympus, Cannon etc. It would more come down to the budget with these brands - around £100 will get you a decent camera, £150+ will get you a pretty good camera with a better lens which should be better equipped to deal with a variety of situations - low light, high sunlight etc. which a poorer lens may not deal with as well.
Have a look on Amazon and sort by customer reviews, they are a pretty good rule of thumb. If it has 5/5 stars and 100+ reviews you shouldn't go far wrong, and then you can search all the other sites to see if anyone else has it cheaper.
Also remember to search for voucher codes before purchasing if buying online - can get further discounts or free p&p etc if you are lucky.

Good advice from evrybody here Leedsy esp. bob. You dinnae have to worry about buying cables to connect to your PC You'll get the necessary USB cables/charging cables etc. along with the camera.

I've almost decided on the Panasonic Lumix from Amazon as I buy lots of stuff from them.
