I change my mind during the game watching him, sometimes I think he's good and progressing well then 20 mins later I'm thinking the opposite.

If we're to really push on I think we need a better left back, I'd like to keep him as back up but think that's unlikely.

Barry Douglas got pelters in some quarters but i think even he was better.

He's ok. Dinnae agree with the Barry Douglas chat. He was fucking awful. I hated him.

Must be better left backs out there than Townsend though

At least Douglas could cross a baw Hunted and chipped in with a goal now and again.

Reckon Townsend is tidy enough on the baw but i don't see him as strong in the tackle or with any real attacking threat.

I fucking hated Douglas. Couldn't defend and could only cross a ball from a set piece. Fucking soft as shite as well.

Not sold on Townsend either to be honest. Least he doesn't dress like a cunt and he's not one of our top earners which apparently Douglas was.

Douglas was shite but his burd was teckle.

Townsend is decent imho and I'd keep him. I'd like to see a younger left back signed as cover though. I think Utd fans have a real hang up about defenders. We seem to rubbish everyone of them that play for us (Webby and Robbo apart). We could have Pannuci, Costacourta, Baresi and Maldini at the back and still be moaning that we need to get new defenders in.

Not sure either, but leaning towards no. If I'm unsure now likelihood is he isn't worth it unless he really turns it around. In all honesty I don't think he wants to stay with us anyway.

Aye he deserves another season at it IMO. He gets his head up every time he's in possession and looks for a pass, a rare gift for SPL full backs.

I think sometimes how the opponent plays tells you the answer.

St Mirren last night when they went long aimed for Arkan, he often peeled off Watson or came wide to Dillon and when they ran at us they tended to target our left side.

Think it was always going to be a tough act to follow. But feel we could do with better.

Not good enough defender and OK going forward but only OK.

It's difficult not to compare him to Robertson so really he was always gonna fall short, i think he is of the same standard as Douglas, not great, but not the worst. Maybe if the laddie was no playing next to the softest centre half combo's in the league he'd be showing more!

Yeah for me. Like him. Good team player. Gets stuck in. Tries goin forward, and good passer. He can dribble his way roond an opponent.

I don't think Townsend ever wanted to stay beyond the summer anyway. With Dillion playing at LB on Saturday it looked like something was on the cards. Dillion is now the cover for RB and LB.
