Would 100% be taking Bennie off

Thought we were excellent, the midfield trio especially, but Randall and Ciubotaru too. Bennie lucky to not get sent off, and generally pretty mince, but everyone else very good.

Forgot to mention Lyall Cameron, absolutely fantastic today.

He's going to prove a great addition because him Tait and Zizu can all play football.

First time for quite a while we have a classy midfield.

Seriously good performance

Midfield when playing well like today are a joke, all 3 could be in with a shout with man of the match

Predicted metsoko would lead the line the day and thought he did well. Was a handful

Kev the left back was good anaw the day

I don't often say this. That was a flawless performance. Played well in every department and from minute 1 till minute 90.

Really, really good stuff today and the first time in a long time i really enjoyed watching us. Some of the quick passing was great to watch. Most importantly we had an end product today.

Happy for Jim Goodwin on his return to the dug-out. Maybe this recent health scare can have a silver lining and give him a fresh impetus for the job and life in general (health scares can have a funny way of doing that).

Just a shame we don't have a game for weeks now 

Finally, what an utter disgrace David Dickinson is as a referee. I really hope the club come out and do something about his continued bias against us.

My player ratings on a happy Saturday night -

Walton 7 - Dealt with everything that came his way well.

Rawlins 7 - Probably our quietest player on the day as nothing really came down his side, but there has been a definite improvement with him in the past two games.

Esselink 7 - Blotted his copy book somewhat with the penalty error, but otherwise was rock solid.

Forbes 8 - A rock at the back.

Ciubotaro 8 - Excellent today. Great instinctive Strikers finish for his goal. Good shot on him too.

Iqbal 7 - Don't think i seen him lose possession once. Very tidy player. Technically excellent.

Tait 9 - I've been critical of him and questioned his ability. Thought he was excellent today. Played like a Captain and covered every inch of grass.

Cameron 9 - Outstanding. It's been many years since i've seen a No.10 play that role so effectively for United. Shades of Barry Robson today. Took the game by the scruff of the neck and pivotal to everything good we did.

Randall 8 - The lad had a rough start at the club but is starting to show his worth. A goal and assist today. I do worry he'll burn out at some point this season though. Need to manage him well.

Metsoko 7 - Put in a good shift today and linked up well with Cameron and Randall. Would still like to see him take up better positions in and around the box to receive the ball and also to shoot first time at times, but much better performance today. Hopefully more to come.

Bennie 6 - Possibly our only weak link today. Too wasteful in possession at times and should have buried that one on one he had. Finish was awful. He might struggle to get starts once Merghem's back.

Subs - 

Ferry 6 - Done ok.

Rose 6 - Unlucky with his chopped off goal. Looked quite a tight call.

Farrugia 5 - Quiet cameo.

Yoro 6 - Looked bright.

Camara 6 - Didn't have much time to do anything of note.

 

Big Kevin - some. Boy - the skill needed to stick out his left foot to g3t whisker of contact with the outside of his left foot to ball coming in low  hard and at that angle - Gold.   All goals good team goal, every individual and team  performance as commanding as the scoreline reflects.    Weapons all over the park but MOTM for me Forbes rock at the back.
Bennie the one flaw, hasnae got it.

Delighted for so many of them yesterday, but Jim, Metsoko and Randall all at the top of that for me. They all needed that today. Tait and Cameron the stand outs but you expect that from two players who have done the business previously in this league.

Kevin also, looking like he could be a great signing for us. Can he maybe play right back once Ferry is back fully fit? 

Whilst Rawlins is certainly improving week-in-week-out, the standard of our two left backs compared to our two right backs is looking quite stark at the moment.

Im not sure you could say we got lucky with the pen. I've seen a few social media posts saying that. I had a great view on DUTV. Just before the cross comes in you could see a couple of our defenders hands raised claiming offside.
Then as the pen is given I'm thinking this is surely offside. This has to be overturned.  Then the replays show exactly that their player had returned from an offside position to play the ball.
Absolute cast iron offside, no debate. And that's what VAR is there for because if VAR hadn't recommended the referee come to the monitor there would have been a serious media outcry about VAR missing a clear mistake.
It's not like a tackle where you can debate was it yellow or red, it was obviously offside by some distance.

The mystery is that the referees assistant was right beside it but didn't flag.

 
For me, VAR has made football worse and I trust the ref’s on the pitch more than the ref’s watching TV. It is a lottery and also just as subjective as we saw recently in the Manchester derby. So relying on it to get you out of jail is 50/50.

But main point is that St Mirren hardly threatened in that game and Bert has still managed to make a stupid, clumsy challenge he didn’t need to make that the ref deemed a pen. He had no idea the lad was offside and so got out of jail.

Anyways, looking like one of those seasons where we will be brilliant or terrible. Let’s hope we have found a front 6 that can play like that most weeks and see if the defence can improve as a unit.
