There was a picture on Social Media of the squad out for a meal, which seems to have been taken post game.

It didn't look like Goodwin was in it, but I never looked closely enough to see if any of the coaching staff were.

I just hope he is ok, the picture at training they posted pre-Falkirk was vague I thought, the eye patch at the game was a concern, and if he wasn't taking the team in a bounce game, it perhaps suggests a longer layoff?

It's none of our business and it's a personal matter, so I wouldn't expect updates, he needs to take as much time as he needs to recover, or work out what's happening.

There's a 3 week break after Saturday, so perhaps we might hear something then, or he may well be back in the dugout.

 

Yeah, i've heard a few pieces of speculation, but wouldn't be comfortable speaking publicly about it, or posting it, as again, it's none of our business.

And this isn't being callous, but there's a growing concern amongst the fans that his time as our manager is coming to a close, whether we subscribe to that viewpoint or not, now nobody wants it to be under these circumstances. But if he needs to take a step away from the stress and strain, then do it, if he/the club think as you've said above a less hands on role, but still being involved, then I hope that can happen.

We've all got our opinions, but there's plenty of those who can't think before speaking, shouting, posting, (every fanbase has them)  it would be horrible for him, his family to read some of the stuff that gets posted.

After the Falkirk game where it was pretty clear there was maybe a bit more than a routine check going on, someone altered the 'Get Well Soon Jim' banner the display team did, to 'Go Now Jim' or similar and few liked/shared it.

Tactless, ill-advised, cruel and just dickish. He was called out, but FFS read the room.

There's also been quite a few nasty comments re Iqbal on the official feed as well.

I wouldn't be making up a role for Jim Goodwin just to keep him at the club. Why should we? 

I want him (first and foremost) to recover fully from his health issues (whatever they may be) and then be judged rightly or wrongly on his job in the dug-out.

If his health dictates that can't happen then i'd genuinely be sad (for him), but i wouldn't be concocting a new role at the club just for that reason.

Director of Football role is a nonsense imo. Particularly for a club of our size.

 

 
I get it, but we can’t really be seen to sack him while he’s ill, and something’s got to change if results don’t improve.

Wasn't necessarily talking about making a role just for Goodwin, but we've often discussed that it seems no-one on the board is football minded, and it could be Goodwin could be head of football operations, looking after the whole structure. Just looking possibilities whereby if he's unable to continue in his current role, we can see how it goes, or as you say gardening leave and take all the time you need.

Goodwin has an eye for a player, but sometimes can't get the best out of them, or overthinks things, so advising, recruiting there may well be a role, dare I say replace his namesake?

Hope this is all moot of course.

If Jim Goodwin isn't able to return to the dug-out after the 3 week international break then we should take the matter out of his hands and put him on 'gardening leave' on full pay. Give him the correct amount of time to be with his family and fully recuperate without the stress of being a football manager in the short term.

We should appoint an interim going forward.

We have to look after the clubs interests, but also have a duty of care to him as an employee.
 

 

Glad you aren't my employer tbh. Have a health worry and punted after a month or so.

 
Any company would be forced to do this if their leader or one of the senior leadership team was going to unable to work for an extended period of time. We would have no choice but to appoint a temporary or interim manager with a longer term plan in case the manager can’t or doesn’t want to come back. Not much different to maternity cover jobs and the employer knows there is a chance the mum might not come back after maternity.

The club will need to act. Not convinced they will though.
We already have a DOF in Capuano, no chance we are creating a new position for Jim at this point. I think they'll leave Sharpe in charge despite the risk that goes with it

Alongside of this issue with the manager I'm very concerned.
We don't have the quality required at the back and despite scoring 4 in Ayrshire I don't think we have the quality upfront to trouble teams.

On top of that I'm concerned we don't have the grit, dig and character needed for this league. We just can't be relegated.
I think we're going to be in a dogfight in the bottom 3/4 and in those circumstances you want a wily experienced coach in the dugout.
I'd have been on the phone.

Hope to be wrong about the quality in the side. But we need to get a result on Saturday or the pressure and concern will continue to build.

3 points between us in 11th and Motherwell in 5th. Early days but makes Saturday look even more important.

Watched the Falkirk highlights against Hearts and they played the exact type of fast up and at 'em attacking football that they did all last season.

That despite losing Tait, Miller, Stewart, Broggio, Lissa, Wilson, Williams, Cartwright.

They signed 17 new players and their Manager is already getting them playing the same football that they have now for the 4th season on the trot.

The 'time to gel' excuse that gets branded about should be over for ALL our players now. New or otherwise.

I also believe in consistency and a risk on another manager is not for me

I haven’t heard any rumours but my massive hope is that JG does get well and he can take on the team duties again.

There is a good break now with the international break after st Mirren so hopefully he can use that time to get fully rested and better
