I resigned myself to him going to Celtic on transfer deadline day weeks ago. No English team is coming in for him this late in the window. And if Anderlecht really wanted him surely they would have paid the relatively small fee for a club of their stature.

Celtic will come in with something derogatory like 800k. Ferry will make it known to Goodwin that he wants the move.

United then have a decision to make on two fronts.

1) Do we let him go for nothing next Summer?
2) Do you keep an unhappy player on your books?

Now, i would absolutely love the club to say to Celtic (and Ferry) that unless we are getting 2M upfront he is going nowhere and that if he wants to go to Celtic he'll need to wait till next Summer.

But i think Utd would just bite the bullet and take the money. We will never know the fee of course.

The only time Utd leaked a fee (Moller) was when it was more than we expected. Any other time it's 'undisclosed'.

Agree with above btw. If they do come in with a lowball offer and we decide to sell, chance our arm at getting a Tony Ralston or Callum Osmand on loan.

I’d be majorly pissed off if Ferry goes to Celtic for anything less than £1.8m. I’m really praying Anderlecht come in with a bid tomorrow.

I wouldn’t sell him to Celtic for £800k. If push comes to shove they can get him on a free at the end of his contract. If he’s not happy, too bad. He has to understand the club’s position too.

Agree. Will be interesting to see what happens but you can guarantee the club would prefer a fee. But to lose him for about half of his worth isn't acceptable.

On the other hand some players completely lose their bottle when faced with the practical realities of a move abroad. We've seen plenty take the money to warm a Glasgow bench when they could have been improving themselves in a different European country.

when the owner finally gets all of, or most of his money back through the player trading model will he have become addicted to it?

That is a worry because we need to see ambition alongside it if so.
We need to build to a core of signed players where we develop them and we ultimately bank the fees for them only after they've improved our league position and see us seriously competing for silverware. And.....qualification for a European competition league stage. Less dependence on loans and lower turnover of players.

If say £1.8m does come in for Ferry and decent money keeps coming in for other players, the time when Mark Ogren needs to decide on this may come sooner than we thought

He has said from day one he wants to make money from United and that's why he bought the club.

He reiterated this just in the last week or so.

The only way out of this is if a supporters group start accumulating money to (in time) buy him out.

Not that it's my business (as i'm not a member) but if i was in anyway invested in the DUSF i wouldn't give another penny towards Gussie etc and would try and get together a pot of cash that could buy him out in 5 years time.

If this was their strategy going forward i'd join them tomorrow.

I'm a DUSF member so I'll be careful what I say. I don't speak for the Foundation.

I think the last tranche of funds donated to the club - £177k - was voted through by members because it was seen as a project that we had started funding and therefore should commit to conclusion. I wouldn't say the wording in the ballot question sent to members was loaded in favour of the funding but it could have been interpreted that if we didn't vote in favour we were letting the club down by not completing the last phase at Foundation Park.

If the question had been different, the result might have seen a lower majority or even a different answer, eg "Would you rather spend £177k on Foundation Park or have that £177k as part of a growing fund which could be used to buy a significant influence in the Boardroom?"

The Foundation will never have enough reserve funding to buy the Club even if the Foundation became opposed and hostile to Mark Ogren but in 2 or 3 years would have a sum available to members that could assist a new buyer and engage fans in influencing policy. Certain potentially interested parties will know this.

The relationship between the Owner and the Foundation is not cosy. The Foundation has resisted some Ogren demands/suggestions and Ogren has refused cash for shares on more than one occasion. So we will see where it goes.

The current funding position is not made available to members but there's no doubt the current available fund is considerable. If at some point we doubled the membership to between 4 and 5000 the potential for a fan ownership model would start to emerge in time.

Remember Reddy, Mark Ogren bought DUFC for 1M pounds.

If he clears the debt owed to him. Then i would say 1M is a fair price to purchase the club, given that is the established figure he himself bought the club for.

Now, that's not to say of course that he would entertain bids of 1M, but if supporters continue to be unhappy at the direction the club is heading in under him and in particular this continued 'player trading model' that stifles the club of cash and funnels it instead into his pockets, then i would suggest it were certainly the time for the DUSF to become opposed to him and stop essentially making his 'assets' more valuable.

Just my opinion though and i am in no way meaning to be critical of the DUSF or indeed their members. It's their money and as such they should decide themselves how they wish to spend it.

They don't even need to be the vessel for change, it could be some other supporters organisation.

But as they are already up and running and have good people running them then they seem by far the best bet to lead such an enterprise.

Anyway, just my tuppence worth and don't want to lead this thread down another path. So maybe a discussion for another time (or thread).

I'm a foundation member, but beyond paying my monthly fee, I'm not involved or have a clue how it all works.

I'm not sure if it can be done, or if under the rules it's allowed, but as a rough example, couldn't Mark Ogren say, I value the club at £5m and say shares are worth a tenner a piece.

Every year the foundation would be allowed to buy X amount of shares, but will only ever get to own whatever % of the club initially, but have a mandate to try and bring on board investment, or people with the skills to run the club, or if they have the funds, buy him out when the time comes.

As things stand, selling players, to presumably pay back loans/debt (that's a debate for another thread) will also chip away at his 'losses'

The Foundation have put in north of 800k, at a 5m valuation, that's 16% of the club, and that's only the money they'd chosen to hand over. Without looking I'd bet there's a wee wedge there that could be used.

I'd much rather we were buying into the club, it's of no interest to me that the folk playing at Foundation Park get a lovely hot shower afterwards or those folk turning up to watch stay dry as the opposition ping in 6 or 5 goals.

IIRC The Foundation came about to create a fighting fund as the club was looking like going down the shitter as result of, well, we al know why.

If we were actively buying into the club, there was a target, rather paying for stuff the club themselves should really be covering, I'd up my donation, and I'm sure membership would swell.

The £ numbers are scary, but whilst we have issues with the direction the club sometimes appears to be going in, i've no immediate concerns for our future, like I did under previous regimes, but what if he just says fuck it? At least a plan in place that long term buys him out or gets a share in the club would surely be preferable?
