Unfortunately with Rose, Sapsford, Randall, Metsoko, Merghem, Bennie, Faruggia on the books, I think unless loans can be cancelled, we're not bringing another forward option in.
Ferry and or Iovu going means we'd bring in defenders.
I doesn't look like he's going anytime soon, so he needs to pick a front 2-3, decide if it's 3-4 in midfield, and play them, no fucking about with changes, trying to out-think the opposition, pick an XI and stick to a way of playing and let's see if understandings can be forged, partnerships can be made.
Saturday's team selection, all boiled down to worrying about Alan Forrest FFS and thinking that boys with minimal game time were ready for a derby.

If that turns out to be the case then we're in a relegation fight.

I think there must be a few irons in fires/fingers in pies for ins and outs because as has been said above, this is one of the positions we seem to be ok in.
Tait apparently does his best work further forward, so it would make sense to work around that, Yoro seems to be what we thought we were getting from Eskesen, so that's like for like there, a option or two.
This might sound daft, but for me as good as he's been in his time here, we rely far too much on Ferry, we need someone with what he brings to the team, to be playing further forward, the energy, drive, the delivery and passion.
Almost a bit like when Barry Robson left, we played too much through him, if he had an off day, it never clicked, then we were out of ideas, look at how much of our play 2nd half in particular on Saturday was Ferry trying to find that cross, it's not the first time and it becomes one dimensional.
Spencer's old man, will have had his ear at every turn, we're not paying or trying to pay anywhere near what those Falkirk fans are saying, he may well have a release amount, and we're chancing our arm, before deciding whether to meet it?
Anyway, as poor as we think some of the recruitment has been, and with unrest over the manager/owner it's comforting to a degree that we've got money to pay and if we've realised quickly certain things aren't working, we're moving fast to sort them.
I'd just rather we spent the money on an out and out Striker with a proven record.
I think that's what will make or break our season. Not (with respect) a player like Brad Spencer.
We need experience in the team though, folk will be crying out for it if we end up in a relegation battle. Players like Camara are the last types you can depend on in that situation, he plays for himself.
It’s not the area of the team that most needs addressing, but you can never have enough good players. I really don’t get people complaining about his age, players usually only stay here for 2/3 years max. He’s not over the hill at 30. If we get a couple good years out of him, he’ll repay his transfer fee.
Still need a striker that can link play and hopefully score goals, along with an experienced centre half though. Spencer kind of solves the RB problem for a while as Vicko can play there.
When Ferry goes, I wouldn’t be against us doing a double raid on them for Leon McCann at LB.

According to the fraud, we are all too quick to judge and that the Dundee defence is outstanding

It usually takes about 10 minutes to tell if a player is any good, it’s not foolproof and you get a few wrong, but for the most part you don’t need a dozen games to judge a player, he’s just trying to buy time.
I agree with him that the Dundee defence were good though.

Not trying to be too harsh on the lad and if he signs then obviously i want him to do well, but for me Brad Spencer is a journeyman player who we absolutely should not be shelling out our biggest transfer fee in 25 years on.
I can't quite believe what we are playing at tbqh.
Particularly as we are in dire need of a Striker, Right back, and possibly another Left back.

Proof will be in the pudding with this squad. Early days for sure. People seem to be freaking out and dooming us to relegation after 3 league games which I think is more of a sign of the times. We see what goes on down south and social media narratives mean that you are only ever 3 games from a crisis (as this recent bad run proves). Goodwin getting called a fraud, useless bastard (mind you that poster never has a good word to say about him so you have to take that with a pinch of salt). Massive lists of failed signings being banded about forums and social media too. Gets a bit tedious tbh.
Now we're saying we need 2, 3, maybe even 4 new signings or we are in trouble. Right now we have two players for every position apart from centre mid (5 players for 3 positions) so I can't see too much activity happening across the other areas that feel a bit weak at the minute. However we do have to give new signings a bit of time to settle in. I know those days are probably gone, but Barry Robson, Craig Conway, Jon Daly and Nadir Ciftci are just 4 players off the top of my head who had poor starts at the club, and all have gone on to be talked about as either legends or cult heroes. So forgive me for not pushing the panic button on them all straight away.
What isn't in doubt is that the 3 games we have coming up are massive, mainly for Goodwin. Because if we don't come out of them with 4 points at the very very very least, then the vitriol from the fans will get to boiling point. For some it is already there, which I don't agree with, as I believe he's done enough to deserve a bit of time for the team to gel. If you are hitting mid-October and a relegation battle seems likely, then yes of course you look to change. That would be accurate for any manager.

Do we know it will be our biggest fee in 25 years? A 6 figure sum could be £100k for all we know.
I reckon (hope) Goodwin is trying to bring in some experience into the team to coach the younger squad that we currently have. I don't know much about Spencer, but I didn't know much about Ross Docherty and he was a good, experienced player when he was fit that could be an onfield 'manager/coach'.
I'm in the same camp as you in that I doubt this is the signing we need, but would happily be proven wrong.

Why is Jim waiting until the end of August to bring experience in though ?
It’s not like it’s been a surprise that we need it.

It was our 3rd bid yesterday, so you would have to imagine was a good bit beyond that amount for their guy who's Captain most weeks.

I agree. I've said before we need experience in the team but all our signings have been made with a view to their sell on value and not taking into account their ability to contribute to a team that should be fighting every season for a European trip.

If our bids have been called embarrassing, its entirely feasible that we have tried to low ball them with all three bids. I wouldn't be surprised if we started with a £50k bid or so. We don't have cash to splash, that much is blatantly obvious, so I doubt we'll be offering much more than £100k tops with our 3rd bid.

We only won 12 league games in 21/22 and finished 4th so that statement is hardly some kind of damning indictment of his performance. But you keep obsessing over whatever agenda you have going.
Mind that time we languished in the Championship for 4 seasons? What would you have given during that time for a 4th and 7th place finish in the Premiership? I know I would have bitten your hand off for it.
Those 4th and 7th place finishes by the way were our 1st and 3rd best performing seasons of the last ten. So a bit of perspective is needed.
Also if you read my post you'll see I said that if the next 3 matches don't go well then he'll likely be in bother. But you are clearly obsessed with being one of the people who have put their stake in the ground and called for him to go nice and early on so when he does go you can boast about wanting him out for ages while the rest of the happy clappers tried to be a bit more balanced and see things realistically. Imagine that eh.

Wait, why do I need to answer to the criticism? I'm not here to defend him, I'm just giving my opinion. My opinion is that you are being a bit dramatic with the posts about him. I'm not going to say he shouldn't be sacked no matter what, I just think that being of the opinion that he HAS to go is wrong (at the moment).
I've said twice now that if we don't improve over these next 3 games then he'll be in bother. And I would say that he should go if we ended up with 3 defeats, for sure. Not sure what else you want me to say? I don't give a fuck about being on a specific side of loving or hating him. He's an average manager. Always has been, but he's over performed in one season for us and underperformed in another. We've started badly this season and he is under pressure. That's my opinion and it's as basic as that. It's also surely balanced to say things like new players might need a bit of time to bed in?
It doesn't have to be "I love him and want to stay forever" or "he's a fuckin fraud get him out" - nothing wrong with not being welded to one of those. I'm being realistic.
When we were in the championship, half way through the season I said that even if we do go up, I don't think he should stay in charge as I thought he'd struggle. He shut me up by finishing 4th the next season. Never going to complain about a 4th place finish no matter how it comes about. Last season was bad defensively and we threw away too many leads. But we also had some good performances that merited another season for him, in my opinion.
Now this season has started badly, and if it keeps going, he'll be away. And I won't have a problem with it.
Also I don't see the problem with referencing previous examples but clearly you don't like that so I'll stop now.

Anyway, taking this thread back on track.
Falkirk may see our bids as embarrassing, but that's based on a value they hold.
A player is only worth what someone is willing to pay, they're entitled to kick any bids into touch, just as we are entitled to offer what we see as fair value.
Spencer is 30, has spent most of his career in lower league football, we might not be Man City, but it's likely a fair hike to join our wage structure. I suspect this might not be the end of this, the player may well have a part to play. A last chance to play for one of the bigger clubs.

That would be accurate for any manager.10 league wins in one year.
But it's okay because Barry Robson started off slow in 2003
Off ya pop
Get the useless fraud out
We only won 12 league games in 21/22 and finished 4th so that statement is hardly some kind of damning indictment of his performance.
Another one so traumatized by the last decade following United that you’ll accept utter drivel every week because it’s not as bad as under Csaba or Mixu.

To be honest McGlynn's outburst is one of the reasons I wouldn't want him at Tannadice. He couldn't cut it at a big club and has a massive chip on his shoulder. He's suited to Falkirk.
That said, it does worry me that the club sees a solution to its problems in Brad Spencer. I understood Tait as he's got years to go, but Brad Spencer seems like the Ross Docherty gamble all over again. I can only assume that we are losing more midfielders and Spencer is seen as plugging a gap.
I'd agree that the player himself is likely to have a big say in this still. If we have approached the club with several offers but don't know whether the player is up for it then we'd be more naive than even I think we are already.
