Goodwin GTF

Last season was mediocre. This one’s gonna be a hell of a lot worse.

My god, that is some amount of utter shite he has signed this summer. We’re in for a very difficult season with this bunch of players. The A-League’s a pub league, and my god, those are quite clearly pub league players.

Time’s well and truly up, as I’ve been saying for at least the last 6 months. I’m glad a vocal number in the ET lower agree with me, that “Goodwin, Goodwin GTF” chant was the one and only positive I could take out of today.

We’re in serious, serious trouble if we don’t get rid of Goodwin and also sign a RB, an experienced centre half, a competent centre forward and a winger to replace the Aussie diddies.

Re: Goodwin GTF

The story of this season will look great in the stats (apart from the most important one) possession, efforts on goal, passes etc

Dundee weren't any great shakes, but we played into their hands by playing the totally wrong XI, Randall may well come good, but he's really lacking confidence, Merghem is very comfortable on the ball, but plays with no intensity.

The manager got it all wrong today, as he often has in big games, the problem I think is that there seems to be no pressure on him from above to deliver.

When you're carrying out the sort of rebuild we've done this season and last, you can't rely on the League Cup, games v lower opposition, to gauge players, that again is down to planning.

I think the football we'll play won't be as eye bleeding as the last two season, but unless he sticks to a plan, a way to play, a prefferred XI, we could be in deep trouble.

Ogren has never been shy of making decisions, but the worry for me is that he doesn't get football, the time we went down his quote was "We'll just come back up!"

He's used to franchises, no consequences of being shite or poor, there's no relegation heartache in his pishflap sports.

We really need a director of football type as well, one that understands the game, one who'll have input into comings/goings/recruitment.

Appreciate this is maybe a bit long winded for this thread, but you gotta sound off, and i've not even touched on our cup record under him yet.

Re: Goodwin GTF

First season back in the top flight the football was pish but we carried a goal threat and were very hard to beat through a defence that fought for everything.
Second season and we "upgrade" the squad. The football is still pish and can't defend but at least we can score a decent amount mainly through individual ability of the likes of Fatah.
This season with another squad "upgrade" and we play some decent football but now can't score and still can't defend. We are soft as shite.
That really is some job that halfwit and his team have done.
Only good thing about today was finally hearing some proper vocal disgust towards that fraud. It's been well overdue.

Re: Goodwin GTF

Dinna like saying anything like this, but if it's a bad loss for Goodwin against Killie, then it's Goodbye to Jim.

Re: Goodwin GTF

We’ll get our usual defeats away to Killie and Motherwell and think that’ll be him.

Hopefully we’ve already started work on recruiting the next manager.

Re: Goodwin GTF

4 defeats already and we're not even out of August. Also out of one of the only two Cup competitions we can realistically win.

5 defeats and 4 on the spin next week would have to signal the end of the road for Messers Goodwin.

No clean sheets registered against any of the Premiership sides and only one (fortunate) goal scored should put the fear into everyone.

It's very early in the season, granted. But we've all seen the attributes of what makes for a relegation haunted side and right now we are ticking every box.

Re: Goodwin GTF

Weirdly though, when it clicks we knock it about well and play some lovely stuff.

So i wouldn't be worried about relegation, but more so the fact those in power allow this to slide.

I think his time may well be up, but in order for that to happen we have to lose games, so I hope he gets it right up us and wins the next few, that might be all it takes.

There's zero end product though.

If you can't score goals and can't keep clean sheets that's a recipe for disaster.

We've all seen this movie play out before.

Re: Goodwin GTF

Yeah, but see yesterday, a good few times there's a few good passages of play, ball cut back into the box to the penalty spot, no-one anticipating or making that move, one goes front post, one back post and one should pick up that space between the edge of the box and six yard line.

Again though, chopping and changing the team what feels like for the sake of it, doesn't allow partnerships or understandings to build.

I'm not pro or anti Goodwin, I can see that we're trying to play a better, proactive style, but he's not helping himself by either over thinking it, or trying to be too clever.

It's maybe all breaking down in the final third because there's no understanding/relationship building up.

So for me the problem isn't necessarily the players/squad it's how they're being managed.

A few beers deep, can't believe I typed necessarily right the first time of asking.

Re: Goodwin GTF

There is no doubt JG is now in serious trouble.
Yesterday was a disaster for him.
He lost and failed to score (again) against a poor Dundee side.
The front 3 he picked were all removed by the hour mark ( it should have been earlier)
If he fails to win any of the 3 games Killie, Well or Falkirk before the international break he has to go.
A team that can’t score and can’t stop the opposition scoring are a relegation team.

Re: Goodwin GTF

This reminds me of the 2015-16 team. This team actually play some decent stuff like they did but similarly can't score, keep out goals and lack heart. Waiting for Goodwin to say Jackie's favourite line: "Someone's going to get a hiding from us soon..."
Relegation stink everywhere.

Too much commotion

Re: Goodwin GTF

Leaving Tannadice last night I knew there would be plenty of Goodwin Out calls. I sit in the Dode so couldn't hear the chants from the ET but I could see a gathering at the tunnel side corner giving it to Goodwin as he headed in. I've been Goodwin In for the majority of his time here:

Excluding the relegation season(a lost cause with that team imo) he has had a habit of getting the job done whether its pretty or not.

Although there's better options than Goodwin there's also worse and finding the right man is a difficult task for clubs at our level.

Stability is good.

That being said, we're not currently getting the job done and don't look like doing so anytime soon. We're shipping goals and don't look like scoring at all. Also stability means nothing if we regress each year. It's hard to build a team in Scotland these days due to massive turnover of players each season, lot's of loan deals, youth moving on quickly etc But all our rivals are in the same boat so we can't dwell on that too much.

I'm prepared to give Goodwin a little longer to see if he can turn it around, I think he's earned that but over the next week and a half we need points on the board and a huge improvement in performances at a bare minimum.

That right there sums up everything that’s wrong with the mentality of our owner, board, manager and a massive chunk of our fans.

If the board had anything about them, they’d back themselves to find a better option than Jim fucking Goodwin. There might be worse, but there’s also definitely a hell of a lot better out there.

How is stability good when that stability is lower mid-table, early cup exits & consistently shite football?

Give yourself a shake and find your bollocks ffs.

Re: Goodwin GTF

If Goodwin is staying then FFS bring in a forwards coach to help him. Our current setup is Goodwin (defensive midfielder), Sharpe (defender) and put the cones out Bowman (defensive midfielder), get someone like Jon Daly in to work with the attacking players.

You've highlighted parts of my post to make it seem like it's something it isn't. I basically ended my post by saying he has the next 2 games to show us why he deserves a chance to turn it around, is that not fair?

I also said there was better options out there but it's a massive gamble at our level. It's all fine and well saying 'If the board had anything about them..' Remember Jack Ross, everybody thought he was 'a hell of a lot better' than Tam and we know how that ended.

Finally I also said stability means nothing if we regress each year.

Another coach is pointless under Goodwin. He takes pretty much everything himself. Mason and Bowman are essentially there to put out the cones.

Re: Goodwin GTF

Folk say Ogren isn't interested how would anyone feel if it was their money being chucked on foreign duds? I can't see 1 good signing in any position I'd have taken Forrest Bevan Wright before any of our signings. Get Jon Daily and mark Wilson in and f off Goodwin.

Jon’s coaching/managerial record isn’t exactly great so far.

Daly hasn’t done anything to merit the job. I’d want to see more from Mark Wilson before he got it but I could probably get on board with it if that’s the route we went down.

If we’re going Scottish, John McGlynn’s the first one we should pick up the phone to, he’s not gonna top the season he had last year with them, and he’ll know that. But given we’ve only got about 3 Scottish players anyway, I would be quite happy for us to go for a foreign manager.

We endured last season. It was pretty hellish to watch. There was no togetherness, bond or unity in any of the teams Goodwin fielded.

We got away with it because, Livingston were doomed from the start, Aberdeen were indescribably shite, St Mirren were poor and Dundee were ….. Dundee. That will not happen this season. We cannot wait to see what happens.

What I really wanted to see was a change in the coaching team. Nothing. All these guys retain their jobs.

We know the problem. It’s not Goodwin, it’s Ogren. By the time he realises we’re in trouble it will be too late. People are already beginning to vote with their feet.

Re: Goodwin GTF

See some are giving him the next three games to prove himself. Why?
We are 9 competitive games in and already a shambles at Montrose, two 0-4s and been pumped from our main rivals at home.
He's had pretty much this entire squad for two months to implement the way we are supposed to play and it is a complete mess.
He's had more than enough time to sort this out and coupled with last season him and his coaching team should be literally punted out of Tannadice.
Are we really that soulless as a club these days? It beggars belief
