McGowne as mentioned at least Mathie tried, it wasn't his fault United under McLean and Sturrock was it? Payed a shit lot of money for him. He did have a degree of success elsewhere in his career just not at Tannadice

United have a history of playing proven centre forwards out wide and Mathie was one of many.

He scored another 2 goals at Tynecaste if i remember rightly in a 2-1 win.Near the end of his time at the club.

Seemed to be the only ground he played well at for some reason.Maybe because he was a Jambo and wanted to win a move to them,who knows.
