Salford

First 11 started.
Lost a goal from their first real attack. Terrible defending in the right back area, cross comes over, no one attacks it, striker with free header 1-0 down

Trying to play football, everything going through Tait but nothing coming off in the final third.

15 minutes in we opened them up but Sapsford shot was very weak

18 minutes we're cut open again and Walton saves one on one

19 minutes, Sapsford free in a good position but gets crowded out

20 minutes, daft push in back gives them a free kick on 20 yards, Walton tips it onto the post

30 minutes, trying to link in their half but nothing coming off

44 minutes 2-0 lightning strikes twice. We can't defend a corner from the right, another free header

They are neat and tidy but this is poor from us.

The most impressive thing is the Salford commentator knows all our players by name as soon as they touch the ball.

Re: Salford

Pretty much all change at HT coming on were Amissah Gilligan Naamo Eskeson Camara Esselink Graham Leiper Sassetti Metsoko

This new lineup didn't fare much better to begin with but on 64 their subs seemed to disrupt their rhythm and a link up between Naamo and Leiper sees Metsoko slam in to reduce the deficit. 2-1

Crossing terrible, counted about 8 of them.
Leiper, a HT sub, getting no joy, subbed of for (I think) Forrest.

Back and forward, hustle and bustle, not great but even worse on 83 when our poor play sees them collect the ball, advance and make it 3-1. Too easy.

In fairness the changed team was doing just as well as the first half team, which was not great, but Camara was a standout and it was no coincidence when he linked with Forrest for the youngster to slam in a lovely goal off the bar.

3-2 FT A disappointing result for the 600 United fans in attendance.

We do have some promising youngsters coming into the picture but overall this was a disappointing display. So often we looked disjointed in the final third - does that sound familiar - and defensively shaky a times.  Honestly we just don't look ready.

Re: Salford

Just hame aff a Cruise yesterday, so this is the 1st gehm I've seen. ( on YT ).

Jeezo. Is this the best we can dae against a 4th tier side.

Dinna ken half the players right enough, but they'll need to get a grip.

Seriously hope we can defend better than that on Friday, or we're in for it.

Re: Salford

Actually enjoyed that

The defending for the first 2 goals is carbon copy of what we seen last season- pretty dire

Think after the first goal from them we were decent but toothless up top

Think there’s a few players who have played themselves out the team for Friday though lovu was dire, didn’t think any of the midfielders in first half were great, camera in second half though has potentially played himself in to the team thought he was really good. Sassetti was also very good in second half

Re: Salford

Best I’ve seen Camara for a while.  Dewar looks like he could be very useful.

Worryingly we don’t seem to have found a solid centre back pairing yet, also thought the front 3 in the first half were all pretty poor after showing some promise in last two league cup games.  Don’t think we have many certain starters yet - Walton obviously, Ferry if he’s still here, Forbes -and Tait will start, Sapsford has shown enough in LC games but beyond that not sure anyone else can say they definitely start next Friday

Re: Salford

Just watched the 90.

Positives and negatives.

The Negatives - Very, very worrying that we again lose two cheap goals from headers coming from basic crosses into our box. Goodwin himself stood and said after the 3-2 defeat at Easter Road last season that he knew what he had to do to fix things this season. Well Jim, we seen zero evidence today of that situation having been sorted.

I'm also worried about this midfield three of Sevelj, Agyei and Tait. It isn't working for me. They haven't complimented each other well at all up to this point. All playing far too defensive and neither wanting to really get forward. Pan Camara did that a little bit better today actually once he came on. A bit like the Pan of old, actually.

Not creating enough chances from open play for my liking. Yes, we scored two today, but we never created a great deal out with that. Can only really think of Sapsford's chance.

Eskesen not doing enough in his cameo again.

Rose pretty anonymous.

The Positives - All the young guys done well (Dewar, Leiper, Sassetti and Forrest). Lovely goal from Jamie Forrest today and nice pass for his goal from Charlie Dewar. All these kids look like they have something to offer the first team NOW tbh.I like how they're all fearless and just want to go forward. Please, please, please don't coach that out of them.

Bert Esselink played well. Making a strong case to be a starter against Rangers.

Idjessi Metsoko took his goal very well. Looks like the type of Striker who will need service though to be effective.
