After the negative way Clarke has approached things in our last 2 tournaments I'm not going to get too optimistic about this one.
We could get badly embarrassed again by Morocco especially and that's after needing to beat......Haiti...... a must win game to start off. OK.
On the plus side we won't have to watch Callum McGregor jogging alongside opponents instead of tackling them. And if Ben Gannon Doak gets fit we have a chance. On the negative side we struggle at right back and central defence, not like that's important and Clarke's new defensive midfield favourite Ferguson looks well over hyped.
Here's my mini poll
How many goals will Adams and Dykes score between them
I'll start. 0
Signed, Norman.

Our goals, if they come, will be from McGinn or McTominay.
Shankland is the most natural goalscorer we have and he won't get a sniff because he doesn't run about a lot.
Take yer balls out your Wife's purse Stevie, set up to run over the top of Haiti, a win there and you're almost out the group, then you can play your favoured defend the Alamo tactics in the other two games trying to spawn a point and prey the 2-0 we get v Haiti is enough.

France to win it for me. I think we'll get pumped by both Brazil and Morocco unfortunately.

Only 103 games left. Fill yer boots 🥳

They did, they offered nothing and it was like a borefest training game attack v defence.
In the Engerland ITV studio all that was missing was a rerun of Captain Tom and a Spitfire fly past as they reminisced about 1966.
Surely Canada/Bosnia will be better tonight.

Goal Canada. 1-1

Final score Canada 1-1 Bosnia
A high energy physical contest full of niggly blatant fouls stoppages and surprisingly low on quality. A bit like watching Watford against Barnsley.
Meh. I'm not staying up for the late games that don't involve us.
Bring on Scotland ....
But Brazil v Morocco could be good too.

Loving the fact that the teams are walking out to 'Sirius' by one of Britain's most criminally underrated bands 'The Alan Parsons Project'
Would love Utd to walk out to this every match like the Chicago Bulls used to.
I know Ronny has played it in the past on occassion.

2 months ago I would've fancied Japan to get to the quarters or maybe sneak the semis but injuries might be the beating of them. Mitoma is a huge miss.

Think we will get a win, a draw and a defeat. Through to next round.
France to win. Depending on draw Spain in final.

Thought Japan looked very decent against Scotland and especially England in their warm up games. They'll be a handful for any opponent.

Brazil time now.

We already knew it but Morocco are a very tidy side.

Spain 0-0 Cape Verde after 67 mins. Spain have been very flat so far.

I've found myself increasingly looking at my phone during some of these early group games. Belgium v Egypt was a good watch last night though.
As was Spain failing to break down the plucky Cape Verde.
Some pundits are pronouncing them Verd some Verdy, I wonder which it is.
Such is the World Cup trivia that keeps us riveted during the competition.
Rodri getting bent and twisted bitter post match again was great.

Impressive start from the Auld Enemy although Croatia are not the force of old.. A better attacking side will punish that Englsnd defence.
Offline

Croatia are nowhere near the force they were, and their defending was atrocious at 3 of the goals.
The pundits are doing it already though, asking how England might fare v France, 2 more group games, 2 knockout ties before they might even face the French.
Take away Kane, and Bellingham when he decides to show up and they're bang average, nobody is fearing them.

England conceded two tonight and undoubtedly got lucky with the penalty re-take.
But they also looked frightening in attack at times tonight. Hunting in packs and at real pace.
I fancied them to win it before the tournament started and tonight only cements my fears.
I think if a team scores two, they can score three.
One thing though, they played in the air conditioned Dallas stadium tonight (temp never above 20c apparently). Be interesting how they fare when playing in a hotter city/stadium, as i think it's been a real leveller for some nations.

I would concur with that.
They will need luck (injuries, dodgy VAR decisions, freak weather), but I think the biggest challenge is creating a cocoon around the squad, so that, they are oblivious of the adrenaline infrastructure of pundits, media and expectations.
I think Tuchel can build on what Southgate achieved. Make no mistake, this tournament is a marathon, even the best teams are going to need luck.

USA 2 wins from 2.
