Austrialian A League - United related interest.

Jesse Randall plays in The Grand Final tomorrow for his team, a win gives them the title.

Looked into this briefly and if any of our down under friends or anyone that has more of a clue about this can correct me, then crack on.

But you play a league season and then the top six break off into a Finals Series, a knockout cup competition where they play each other for the right to be champions....

Tie 1 - 3rd plays 6th, Tie 2- 4th plays 5th

Semis
Winner of tie 1 plays the team that finished 2nd in the league
Winner of tie 2 plays the team that finished 1st in the league
Played over two legs, then a one off final.

So you play a league season for the right to have a crack at the title, rather than your points rolling over.

Imagine our league doing this, points only used to give you kinda seeding in the final playoffs, not to decide the title?

This is how a split should work for me, effectively Falkirk had nothing to play for, Hibs need Dunfermline to do them a favour for Europe, every pundits favourite Motherwell finished 21 points and 11 points behind the worse OF sides in ages.

It would need a bit of working out to determine European places as regards the two semis, maybe the one that finished higher in the league gets the better option.

But that would bring a real exciting end to the season, sure Celtic and Rangers would mostly prevail, but at least you would have a chance at glory.

The initial point I was going to make after reading about this in The Courier, was that Randall hasn't scored from the wing in 10 games.

Chill out fella, our main striker only scored 2 league goals all season. Dolcek hasn't scored since September and we've been watching Farrugia and Trapanovski contribute next to fuck all.

"Don't F*cking ever offer me that again!"

Randall playing for Auckland tonight. Correct Grand Final.
Stuffed if I know how finals series work, other than that the higher you are in the table in the season proper the more the of an advantage.
Strikes me as a bit of a Trappa style with pace to burn. Plays down left but likes to cut in onto right or happy to hit the line..
Hard tae ken how he'll go in Scotland,  defences are farcical at times, especially ours.

I'm genuinely worried about this boy arriving at Tannadice completely burnt-out.

He has that Final tomorrow then about a week off before getting together with New Zealand to play friendlies in Florida before the World Cup.

I think we'd be as well writing him off for the League Cup group games and letting him have a rest. Which means we better get other attackers in before then, as we currently have very little attacking options.

Agreed. You seen with Sapsford what happens midway through the season when they play without a proper break. I know people throw the spoiled footballer cliche out there, but everybody needs a break no matter what you do in life. And it ain’t like players at our level are making a fortune.

I’d be giving him at least 3 weeks off after the World Cup, and get him up to speed so he’s ready to go in late-August/early September. We’ll probably reap the benefits later in the season if we do.
