Good Evening, Andy and welcome to the Forum.
How did you become a United fan?
I moved from Arbroath to Broughty Ferry in 1summer of 78 and through that year started to follow United I was P7. Started to go to the games end of 78/79 and regularly from start of 79/80 season so picked a great time to start. Sturrock, Pettigrew etc were brilliant to watch

Which ground in spl do you think has best atmosphere?
I love Tynecastle because fans are right on to of players. One of my favourite games has to be Cup Semi Final v Aberdeeen there it was electric. Also love the hostility at Ibrox.

Most underrated United player you've watched in your time?

Why did you decide to run to be the DUSG representative?
What do you hope to bring to the role?
As i said in another question the key driver was to get debate on away ticketing.
I hope I can represent fans well. I care deeply about this club. Ive often been critical but thats because its important to me. I will lobby for opening communication channels to ST holders further. I think transparency (where possible) can unite the club and the fan base. we don't need to agree but at least if we know why things are done it stops an awful lot of misinformation and animosity

What do you think of these new ridiculous buzz words pundits and coaches use like xg, low block, recycle possession etc?
I'm too old for all that. I like it kept simple balls into the channel, crosses into the box and a big centre forward . Don't play tippy tappy at the back nor side to side!!!

Totally agree with that.
One little thing i'd like better communicated via the clubs socials is info on players who are long term injured where possible.
Take Isaac Pappoe for instance. None of us know when he'll be back or even what his injury is.
Fans being kept in the dark often leads to speculation (sometimes wild speculation) i.e. Ross Docherty has a drink problem etc etc.

I remember you being on the dode fox podcast mentioning you are friends with Alex rae? You must have a good bit of banter with him over the years about us and rangers especially since 2012
Yeah. i think Alex gets a bad press at times, he's a genuinely good guy and very different from the public facing image. His best friend is actually a Celtic fan. I'm delighted for Mark Wilson and him this season.
He always takes an interest in United because of me and we definitely talk more about United than them!!!

In 1993 they asked the supporters if they wanted a new stand at the Shed end or the Arklay street end first.
I voted for the shed and 30 years later I'm still waiting.
Will you ask if there are any plans for this much needed improvement to take place
Of course. i hope fans do engage with me to raise topics at the group that can affect the fan base as a whole.

Are you from Uddingston?
When I set up my Twitter I was living in Uddingston. Originally I was born in Arbroath, then lived in Broughty Ferry, then Carnoustie. Until I moved west to work when I was 21. My mum still lives in Carnoustie.

Questions like these are so difficult because there are so many.
Billy Kirkwood must be up there

I think his commitment can't be questioned. Despite how much i say I love this club I don't think Id have committed teh money he has.
I met him for teh first time last week and he was really personable and clearly has built a love for the club.
So yes I do

Favourite takeaway?

I've really enjoyed doing this tonight. Its great just to talk about united. The questions are quite difficult especially when talking about favourite players, bests and worst etc as there have been so many over 45 years of supporting the club.
Its hard not to skew towards the champions team and i've almost brushed over the class of 87 because of them.
Being able to start taking my daughter at the end of Houstie and the start of Jackies tenure was brilliant because those teams were both great to watch!
I love that she's a west coaster but could not be more passionate about United had she been born in DD3

That's your hour just about up Andy.
Final question from me.
If you could sign one player for United to improve the team, who would it be?
Can be any player in the World. Money no object.

My issue is I'm so blinkered. i don't watch much football outside of Scottish. I'd rather watch Friday night championship than Champions League or Premier League. But any player from all time would be Maradona!

Thanks to Tek and Andy for this discussion which is really interesting.
I have never met the chairman but I think this is an insightful answer
We should appreciate we are lucky to have a chairman who does basically bankroll the club
Nobody is perfect and we all make mistakes but he does seem to have a love for the club.
Great to hear from Andy on the role 👍🏻

Apart from the trophy wins, what's your favourite united game?
2-1 win away to Aberdeen in 83. They had just beaten Bayern in CWC and we had lost in UEFA Cup but went up there and won despite going down to 10 men. We were in the Old Beach End and it was bedlam. Modern day game it would be the "nuetral " semi final at Ibrox. One of my favourite days with my daughter following United
That Aberdeen away match.
A pivotal win in our Premier League Winning Season.

The good old days. There was a line of police between the two sets of fans in the old Beech end, however no sign of any rozzers on the stairs at the back or the hill on the way to the busses. What a day.
Enjoyable match as well.
