Yep, the contrast is refereeing between the last two domestic games and our Euro ties is very noticeable.

Why is that though?  Why are Scottish refs like this?  Is it just cheating or is it something in the Scottish personality that makes us crap football referees?

I think they are acting on a steer from the SFA on how to handle situations, which differs greatly from other leagues. It's strange as the Scottish league is famed for being tough and physical when in reality it's anything but, the referees just do not allow the game to flow, ever. Every touch gets penalised.

I don't buy the cheating theory one bit though, that would suggest some kind of conspiracy of officials wanting United to lose. If you go on other fans social media pages, without exception someone always thinks officials are biased against their club, with extreme paranoia with the bigger two clubs. There is no way the officials care enough about United to form some sort of conspiracy against us.

Re: Killie vs United - LC 2nd Round - Sunday 17th August (3PM)

Yeah I agree with all that's said.
It's sad I'm looking ahead to the season knowing that poor refereeing is going to spoil my enjoyment.
Scottish refs are clearly over prone to bookings and awarding fouls.
It's like they meet up after the weekend and boast how many bookings and fouls, trying to outdo each other.
Btw they don't meet up. I was talking to a Grade 1 ref who was doing Prem games, brilliant lad, who retired about 5 years ago.
I asked whether there was any sort of social life with the refs. Well they don't get together, they're all looking after #1.
We're needing some characters or something, they're all the same, all the same body language, they all look uncomfortable.
The guy who did our game in Vienna was excellent, he asserted authority without showing it, he was just in charge but you didn't notice him. Two bookings and 9 fouls I think it was and the game flowed.
I'll bet the players detest the refs but obviously they can't complain. The players will have no respect for the refs.
So we're looking ahead to months and months of refs spoiling our games, it's very frustrating.
I'm not saying it's an easy job, we know that, if you had an amateur football career you'll have had to do it sometime.
These guys tho are the top of the tree and I wish I was a lumberjack.

Re: Killie vs United - LC 2nd Round - Sunday 17th August (3PM)

I would absolutely not ref any sort of non-professional football game, be it kids or juniors, I'm pretty laid back, but it'd lose the plot if I had to deal with some of the abuse, ignorance, assaults, arseholery, threats to meet in the car park that you hear/see.

I absolutely would referee a professional game in Scotland though, zero accountability, they circle the wagons rather than admitting mistakes (mostly), you don't even have to be good at your job, and they're very handsomely paid imho for what they do..

That said, I'd probably also lose the plot if a wee nyaff like Cammy Devlin was giving me backchat.

Can a ref be charged criminally for a two footed tackle?

"Don't F*cking ever offer me that again!"

Shit, albeit excusable performance by most.
Shit " pitch " - inasfar as you as you can call that a pitch.
Sieve like defence - I think Jim's philosophy this year with signings has been attack minded rather than defence being the bedrock. Two weeks to sort it Jim.
Absolute shit referee. That said I thought at the time Uefa ref should have marched the guy who fouled Sapsford. So not all of the Uefa are perfect, ours are just light years worse.
