Hearts player hit by lighter

Police Scotland looking for assistance with a lighter hitting a hearts player, thrown from the george fox. What is wrong with folk

Get a grip. No better than the Aberdeen fan last season

This is why we can't get a drink at the game. Blame the old firm all you want - but we (collective teams outwith the of) all seem to have an idiot element.

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Completely unacceptable. People around him/her will have witnessed that. It is their duty to report it. We can’t have this Francis Begbie (“Oh but he’s a mate”) thing or “he’s just had a few too many”.

Forget about alcohol in the stadium, it seems to me, it’s the amount of alcohol consumed before entering the stadium.

Either way, there is no excuse.

Re: Hearts player hit by lighter

I'm not excusing this, far from it.  I'm 100% against it.

BUT

If it's happened when a goal has been scored, or yet another crap decision has been made and folks are up on their feet, arms flailing as they question Dickinson's parents marital status, it could be hard to tell if someone has thrown something, so to put the responsibility of reporting it on others isn't that simple or fair.

I know when I'm at the game, I don't pay attention to many folk around me, especially if they're not part of my group.

It's the asshole who throws the object that should be held accountable, not others.

Re: Hearts player hit by lighter

I assume it was on 90 + 4 when Findlay ran over to the terracing wildly celebrating his goal a few feet away from the bottom rows of devastated United fans. 90 + 4.
Some people are more easily goaded than others.
No way condoning it but Findlay should really have gone off on a different direction.
If traced the fan will be duly punished but should be reminded also about the damage his/her actions does to our Club.

I’m not suggesting strict liability but we cannot use poor refereeing decisions or an opposition players (taunting) celebration as an excuse. Last weekend demonstrated that we have probably the worst referees in Europe. My point is, the penalty is levied against the club (even though the individual is liable.

If anyone remembers, when Rapid played Celtic in the 1985 Cup Winner Cup, someone chucked a bottle on to the park. It didn’t hit anyone (although a Rapid player feigned injury). The consequence: Game was replayed at Old Trafford, Celtic lost and Rapid reached the final.

Why? because some (drunken?) yob didn’t like a players behaviour or refereeing decision.

I think you've picked me up wrong.  I'm not blaming poor refereeing as justification for something being launched at a player..  I'm saying that when something happens that causes the crowd to be up on their feet and arms are being flung about all over the place (a goal, a bad tackle, a bad ref decision), it can be hard for a 3rd party to spot someone being an arsehole and throwing something towards the pitch.

Nothing should be thrown onto the pitch, ever - unless its a Dundee season ticket in December.

Re: Hearts player hit by lighter

If we know its a lighter then there is no reason for anyone to be holding a lighter in the ground. Anyone fragile enough to throw any object for any reason needs a ban.

Seems some folk think its ok to dig out abuse to players for 90 mins but as soon as something comes back they start crying.

Re: Hearts player hit by lighter

Fine line between explanations and excuses.
You couldn't stand up in court and say " He was taking the piss, so I threw the lighter".

Dickinson's absolute incompetence is a separate issue.

It enrages fans because players should know better than to wind up a crowd. I also don’t think hearts players were abused either apart from the odd boo towards Shankland or Spittal. There was no need to run to the United fans.

Did you get a replacement for your lighter? 🤣

Same could be said for the aberdeen fan, no?  Fans were ok the pitch w8nding them up.... I dont think we can go 'and eye for an eye'
