Forget Godfather II, Aliens, Empire Strikes Back etc which, in some peoples opinions, argue that they are superior movies to the originals.
Its easy to say a sequel is just a lazy cash in, but what about the sequels that get unfairly dumped on, maybe not as good as the original, but still good in their own way.
Here is my starter for three...
Jaws 2.
Now Jaws is my all time favourite movie, the sequel is not even half as good as the original, BUT... it still has Chief Brody, it still has Amity, no Hooper or Quint this time replaced by a bunch of teenagers in peril (stay with me), the music is still done by John Williams and the overall score is arguably better than his original. Plus Jaws v a helicopter! Its just a straight up teenage slasher picture starring a shark.
Talking of teenage slasher pics...
Scream 2.
Same cast, director and writer, same everything only this time Sidney and her friends are around, and in College University instead of High School.
Lastly...
Ghostbusters 2.
Didnt have the same charm as the first movie but still a fun and solid movie. My kids prefer it over the original.
What other sequels in your opinion deserve a mention...

Die Hard 2 and 3 are both pretty decent films. 3 is better than 2 though. The first one though is fucking epic

Maybe not 'underated' as such because their much loved films but i much prefer Rocky 2,3 and 4 to 'Rocky' even though it was the film that received Oscar success.

Rocky Balboa completes the series perfectly.
Agree about Die Hard 3, Scream 2 and Ghostbusters 2 as well.
Lethal Weapon 2 is really good, don't rate 3 though. 4 is just a comedy but the fight at the end where they both take on Jet Li is the dogs bollocks.
Beverly Hills Cop 2 is a good fast paced sequel and has Bridget Nielsen in it.
Toy Story 2 compliments the original well.
I watched Anchorman 2 on Saturday night which was a good sequel, and quite a good satire on 24 hour rolling news.
Star Trek: Wrath of Khan is outstanding. A film where very little happens but still manages to build up tension throughout and you just know something bad is going to happen to someone. Its miles better that the dull Motion Picture.

Rocky 3 and Die Hard 3 are my favourites out the lot of the series. Talking about third films, I love The Last Crusade better than Raiders of the Lost Ark, I even liked Temple of Doom over Raiders to be honest.
And Empire Strikes Back gets so much love for being one of the greatest sequels ever, but I actually enjoy Return of the Jedi more, and I am a self confessed Star Wars geek. I even liked the prequels for what they are. Revenge of the Sith is very underrated.
Wes Cravens New Nightmare was a great twist on Nightmare on Elm Street, and for shits and giggles, the best Police Academy sequel for me is Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol. Love the 80's

Back to the Future 2 and 3 are great. Gremlins 2 is a good sequel as well.
American Pie 2 and American Reunion are both decent.

Also Another Stakeout, better than the first one.

Return to Oz.
Not a great movie by any means, but scared me shitless (the wheelers!) when I was a kid and is still highly watchable today.
It also has the distinction of being the longest gap between sequels, The Wizard of Oz, 1939 and Return to Oz 1985.
