It's got to be in the best interests of both parties that Thomson and Odada go out on loan for the rest of the season.

I would also be reaching out to any Dutch 2nd division clubs looking for the return of big VDS.

We have four days left to strengthen key areas in our squad, for me, cover for Ferry and a Centre mid.

What a chance this is to finish 3rd and possibly get some cash through the door which could transform the club.

Let's give it a go.

Totally agree with you. I suspect it’ll just be one if anything at all. We’re desperate for a centre mid but also to ask Ferry to play week in week out is a bit much for him.

Re: Last 10 days of Winter Window - What do we still need?

Alan Domeracki is down at Carrow Road today finalising his move to Norwich. Another young player away before they've made an impact.

Hearing Arbroath have been offered Richard Odada or Miller Thompson on loan, but they can only have one.

Hearing Scott Constable perhaps away to Stirling Albion on loan.

Re: Last 10 days of Winter Window - What do we still need?

I read somewhere that JG has said we might see one in and one out.

I'm assuming that's first team players he's talking about.

Re: Last 10 days of Winter Window - What do we still need?

Goodwin saying in the paper that possibly one in, one out and that'll be it.

Also saying that Sibbald is 1-2 weeks away, as is Docherty.

I thought he said Docherty was touch and go for the Huns game?

"Don't F*cking ever offer me that again!"

I've got to the stage where I just ignore what the club is saying about Docherty and if he plays a match at any point then fine.
I've completely lost faith in him, in fact I'm already looking forward to seeing that wage put to good use next season.

Same.

On Sibbald. He was quoted as being back in mid-January. Now at the end of January we are told another couple of weeks possibly. It's a bone of contention with me that our players seem to always return later than was predicted.

Yeah don't know the thinking that goes into this.
To me players should be back as soon as respective injuries permit and with short a notice to opposing managers as possible.
Example = Richard Gough at Aiberdeen when Wee Jum had him rock up on crutches.

When players are injured I don't think the estimated time out can be taken for granted, estimating the length of time a player is going to be out isn't an exact science.

They always return later, rather than earlier though. That's my point.

It's frustrating.

Re: Last 10 days of Winter Window - What do we still need?

Club has confirmed that young Domeracki has joined Norwich on a permanent basis.
Club haven't given any details but fee maybe £100-200k, performance related additions and a sell on thought to be 20% at least.

I hate sell on clauses.

They're pointless and very rarely realised.

Just off the top of my head

Harry Souttar
Andy Robertson

Both sells ons earned us a lot of money

Behich too.

A lot of clubs have made a lot more from sell one than initial fees. Completely disagree that they are pointless.

Re: Last 10 days of Winter Window - What do we still need?

One of the best ones we had apparently was Stuart Armstrong.

Re: Last 10 days of Winter Window - What do we still need?

Gutted the young lad is gone.

I only ever saw him get 45 minutes at brechin but I want to see our young talent stay with the club and make a name for themselves.

Tbh I don't blame united entirely here. They get players who's heads are turned by the cash and risk letting them go for free....the system though is completely broken. (Or scottish football is compared to our neighbours.)

The compensation for players is a pittance. The costs associated with taking them from young players to a level where championship teams want them is hugely high. Figure also all the players who fall by the wayside need to be covered too.

For norwich, there's almost 0 risk to taking our best prospects.

It almost gets to the point of why should united and other clubs in a similar position spend years of time and 100s of thousands to see them walk. Away.

As an aside it might be slightly more palatable if the system was scalable and we could look at teams in the lower scottish leagues but it's simply not there

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Re: Last 10 days of Winter Window - What do we still need?

Allan Campbell apparently signing from Luton.

That’s a real show of ambition to try and secure 3rd place.

Once we get Docherty (I know), and Sibbald fit, that’s some headache to choose from. Vicko, Luca, Docherty, Sibbald and now Campbell. With Babunski and Fiorini capable of playing in there too.

That’s the best midfield options in the league (outside the old firm) by a considerable distance.

At long last, an option in the midfield.

Still very annoying that we have waited so long to address the vulnerability we currently have in our squad.

Great player, will be delighted if we get him although he will have other suitors.

I just don’t get the thought process in all these transfers. It is short termism and shows a lack of belief in our youth set up. It is the only hope of us ever having a really good team or making good money - bringing good quality youth players through together.

How come Motherwell, who are a smaller club than us with a smaller budget, keep bringing through young players into their first team and selling them for good money. The latest one is probably going to get them £3-5m and will have a decent sell on as well.

He out the door, got to be.

Babunski,  I would give a wee bit of time but wouldn't be to bothered if he wanted to move on also.

Our 1st team squad will 100% need to be trimmed, it unmanageable with only 14 games left.

It might well be that the players are just not there at the minute and we might need to wait a year or two before the like of Gordon Youngs boy come through.

I do share your thoughts above though especially in recent weeks when we have had Holt playing in there, would young Odonnell have been a better option?

Across the road look to have some good players coming through.
