Declan Gallagher

Will turn 34 next month and is out of contract at the end of the season.

Played most of our games this season and to date has been very consistent and a good leader at the back.

Would you offer him a new contract?

I would be offering him a 1 year deal.

Re: Declan Gallagher

Yes.
- Goals against best on table outwith uglies.

- Imagine that will be Jim's thinking too.

Re: Declan Gallagher

It's a yes from me for a one year deal.
But he might get a two year offer elsewhere, a risk we should be taking.

Re: Declan Gallagher

He and Holt have really surprised me with what they've offered, but Goodwin is ruthless, if he feels he can get a younger player, with more years to offer/a resale value, then a contract might not even be an option.

I think though that any offer of a 2 year deal would come from a club less attractive than United, maybe dropping down a level.

"Don't F*cking ever offer me that again!"

Re: Declan Gallagher

I'd keep Gallagher & Holt for another season but would add Sam McClelland for next season.
He's going to be out for this entire season with ruptured achillies poor guy but Jim likes fellow countrymen & he and the Blair Baresi were awesome together at the end of last season.

Sam McClelland came in last year and helped us over the line.
However he was painfully slow and a kick it the way he is facing CH.
Not for me.

Re: Declan Gallagher

Agree with CCx2 and other posters. Might be aging but is playing very well, not convinced we could or should offer more than a year though. Mid thirties you are a niggling injury away from losing it IMO.

I also feel Gal and Holt's stellar form are somewhat a product of our style of play. If you fill your midfield with players that will put an absolute shift in like we have done, then it is much more difficult for the opposition to pick out those passes which will exploit their lack of pace. We absolutely play a style that fits the strengths of all our centrehalfs.
