Jort has played 16 times this season and hasn’t scored once.

Don’t know how many times stirton has had a chance - is it only 1 and he has scored?

His development is being hampered by a striker that doesn’t score goals and is often not even in the box. Whatever people think of the rest of his game a strikers job is to score goals.

I would much rather Stirton or another young Scottish lad is brought on instead of a striker that isn’t going to score.

I agree pretty much word for word with Finn's response above.
In a way it's a pity Jort was announced as a striker because obviously everyone expects strikers to score and as of yet he hasn't.
But say he had been announced as a midfielder he wouldn't be getting the criticism he's getting in some quarters.
Jort is a bit of a players player, he links play very intelligently. Uses space off the ball well and rarely fails to play a ball into a team mate on the deck.
Also the reference to the nationality of a player being 'held back' is a bit telling.
I've seen some suggested pre match lineups on forums that consistently have Fotheringham and Miller Thompson in them but exclude better players, same idea presumably.
Hopefully he gets that monkey off his back soon because it will keep being something that some fans will criticise him for.
Think Stirton and Moult could be a partnership but I doubt we'll see Stirton with Dalby so while Dalby is scoring regular it's difficult for Stirton. Hopefully there will come a time where he gets the chance for a wee run of games and we can see if he can improve us as a goal threat, think he might have a good future and as Finn says, the club are right not to rush him.

I like Jort, he brings a lot to the team and I’ll be delighted when he finally scores.

Re: January Transfer Window

Just catching up with the latest news and Slotbadger might get his Stirton wish because Louis is out for a prolonged period. Described as weeks not months.

No luck with injuries this season.

Think we clearly have some pretty different ideas on football.

Jort is a striker. He was bought as a striker. He is played as a striker. I suspect he was brought in to be our main striker in the summer. Even if he does score soon I can’t see him ever scoring more than 5 goals a season. He just doesn’t get into the right positions or have the instinct. I watched him closely at the weekend and in a game where we had 4 or 5 players constantly in the Motherwell box at the end he was often not one of them. If he is a midfielder then we really need 2 new strikers in this window.

On your point about nationality - 100% it matters for me. If we are paying to bring in experienced foreigners I expect them to hit the ground the running. Guys like Jort and Odada. Or Birghitti/whoever who are internationals . If they are younger foreigners making their way I have more patience. But in general I think we should be prioritising young Scottish players over foreigners for all sorts of reasons including self interest. Not really Stirton in particular - I have no idea how good he is - but any young player showing promise I would rather play than a pro who is not delivering week in week out. I will be much more patient with young Scots who are inconsistent and learning/improving than an older player who has reached their peak and is still average at best.

Re: January Transfer Window

You've got to trust the management, they know all about it, we're just playing at it.
There's some knowledge in that dugout & I'm always glad to see that Bo's there too.
If vdS is getting no more than cameos then no more than cameos is what he's getting.
The management see the players 5 days a week, we see them for an hour & a half.
vdS will no doubt be showing up at training and deserving of his cameos.
Cheesey will be bursting a gut too & he'll get a chance when Goodwin & Co deem it appropriate.

Re: January Transfer Window

I've got to stick up for Jort a bit here.

Obviously you want strikers to score and I don't ever think he would be prolific, however, he is a true team player. Especially early doors, he was asked to play in a system when he was stranded up top on his own. All he could do was chase and try to bring others into play.

He does a job to make others look good and that has some merit. (Albeit, I'd love to see a jort goal or 2 very soon)

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Re: January Transfer Window

Sam Dalby basically saying he wants to stay at United permanently.

Hopefully we get this sorted in January before a bigger club gets him for free in the Summer.
