United vs Celtic - Sunday 22nd December - NOON

Can't say i'm looking forward to this one on Sunday.

Would absolutely love United to surprise me and give them a game.

Moult apparently injured (again) and obviously Ross Docherty will be (is he ever not?).

What XI and formation would you go with on Sunday?

There's never going to be much enthusiasm for a game we're likely to lose. Just being competitive would be nice.
Refuse to admire them.
Kick them as often as possible 😁

Re: United vs Celtic - Sunday 22nd December - NOON

I'd line up in a

For
fe
it

formation, time to look out the positive covid tests that weren't registered, but saved for using when needed.

As much as we've got great dig, a never say die attitude, we allow some teams far too much of the ball and rarely so far have we been really exposed. But the defending on Saturday was brutal at times, Middleton at one of them Adegboyega at two of them, It could be a toilet roll in the fridge number and the Samaritans on speed dial.

Re: United vs Celtic - Sunday 22nd December - NOON

I think we can cause them some problems however my real worry again is in the middle of the park (we are so weak in there).

That said the long ball that Rangers deployed last week really cause them problems, copy and paste job for this week. Big Dalby can cause them issues but getting support up to him will be the issue.

Ross Graham should return to the starting line up, I would also look at dropping Babunski,  I just can't see it with him.

Moults injury can't be to bad he played on for a good while after his fall last Saturday but he was never starting this week anyway.

Re: United vs Celtic - Sunday 22nd December - NOON

Right wing their strongest attacking option, left back our...

This is a 'from behind the settee' watch for me.  Anything at all from this will be a huge bonus.

Update:  Forgot Ferry is back!  0-0!

Re: United vs Celtic - Sunday 22nd December - NOON

Walton
Manny holt Graham
Strain Sevelj Stephenson Babunski ferry
Dalby jort

Only dropping Gallagher as feel holt is slightly more mobile than him, Babunski is a lucky guy there isn’t really a able replacement for him- he’s been stinking for months, I’d bring jort back in as again we don’t have any other options, unless Jim goes with wingers which I canna see happening especially with Celtics midfield 3.

Re: United vs Celtic - Sunday 22nd December - NOON

I actually thought Celtic looked poor in the middle of the park at the weekend.  McGregor seemed to have it all to do himself.  Hatate had a poor game by his standards and Engels didn't do that much when he came on.  So I'm less worried about the middle of the park and more worried about the wings.  Also think they may go Idah up top rather than Kyogo so pace at CH slightly less of an issue.  However defend like we did last weekend and Walton will be getting a sore back...

Re: United vs Celtic - Sunday 22nd December - NOON

I hope our management team don't adopt the we don't stand a chance attitude that seems to have swept over the majority of UTD fans.
No debate that their the best team in Scotland but all this waving the white flag shite , ffs show some backbone.

Re: United vs Celtic - Sunday 22nd December - NOON

Maybe unpopular but I'd move Holt into midfield to add a bit of dig there. Get right into McGregor or McCowan
Go back to a back 4 with big Ross restored and Gallagher rested.
Wing backs to give the full backs  protection. Jort in midfield just because he can retain possession and support the possibility of an attack

Walton in the goal
    Strain Adeg Graham Ferry
Stephenson Svelje Holt Middlton
             Jort
               Dalby

I agree with this.

We should go into EVERY home game thinking we want to win the game and deploying whatever tactics gives us the best chance of doing that.

Really though, what we think as fans has no bearing on the result or performance. I'm just sick of us turning up, getting flipped over and pumped dry by Celtic, add in the the behaviour of their fans in and around the ground, the general unpleasantness that's crept back in with the gimpy ultras movement, the constant banging of a drum just to make a noise, the pyro that'll no doubt delay the game, the early kick off and moved to Sunday, the whole situation is a bit shite.
We may well surprise ourselves, but the 9-0 game will live a long time in the memory, I used to look forward to games v them especially at Tannadice, we lost more often than not, but it was usually a good game to watch, good football from both sides, the odd high scoring game.

It's where we are, but 90+ minutes of attack v defence a game plan designed to frustrate, it's not a good watch.

As said above it's the ultimate watch from behind the couch game, I don't know if anyone has looked into the stats, but it also seems that we're the team that often takes more heavy defeats v them, than others do.

"It's a shite state of affairs to be in, Tommy!"

50 mph winds predicted for Sunday.
Hopefully it happens
Should make the game a lottery

Re: United vs Celtic - Sunday 22nd December - NOON

We are sitting on one of the few positive goal differences in the league.  That could be the equivalent of a point at the end.  One which may be very important.  I'd like to see us keep it tight and try to be positive on the ball by retaining possession and countering where we can.  A humping just won't do us any good.

Add to that we have a squad of players who won't give a fcuk about their reputation.  Players who went to Ibrox and deserved the draw. Really important that Goodwin tells them to get wired in and make competitive challenges all over the pitch.

Re: United vs Celtic - Sunday 22nd December - NOON

As long as we defend properly on Sunday.

If it’s 50 mph winds wrap up warm folks. Where I sit in the ETL lower on the end of the row it’ll be Baltic.
