The problem with the move to England is that the only side showing interest is a third tier side. They'd probably pay a bit more than us but not life changing sums and the football is shit.
If I was offered that or Celtic I'd take the latter.
I'm not bothered about him going there, if they didn't sign him they would still strengthen in the summer.

What a sh1tebag.
Dead to me. Hope he never plays for us again.

Agree this has nothing to do with the Chairman, GMS for the past 12 months has known he was leaving and it’s a combination of his injuries and poor level of performance in the past 6 mths in particular that has left him with a choice of lower level English teams or Celtic.
A shoe in to pick up some cup / league winner medals, Champions League possibilities at Celtic, also a shoe in Strachan Scotland Call up as soon as the first hoop is over his heed or going nowhere in the lower reaches of English football, taking off your Tangerine Specs what would you do?
Now this is actually where there is a bit of a problem more for Jackie IMO.
Does he go with GMS in the team knowing that any drop in performance will see the fans giving him dogs abuse for no giving a shite now he has his move.
or
He could drop him out of his plans after his last three performance and if things go tits up in terms of cups and league position then the finger is pointed at him for leaving a possible match winner out!
Interesting times ahead but would agree any dip in GMS form and Nadir drops into that position and leaves Anier up top!

i'm guessing the club got wind of his head being turned by celtic a couple of days ago and tried to throw a spanner in the works by going public with a figure that would hopefully temp English clubs to move
fucking bang on the chairman for doing that and fuck GMS imo

I have been quite wary of GMS this season and was fairly suspicious with the recent improvement but at the same time no surprise. I really didn't think he was goin gto play much at all this season.
Can only sign for who is offering, but it is or will be a massive disappointment if he goes to Septic. He did want to go to England, but only to Championship up by the sounds of it and it appears there hasn't been any offers coming from there.
I think the £250k offer, as much as it is open to everyone was only to really tempt septic because of the situation it would create for us if he goes there on a pre-contract agreement, which effectively is rendering a player useless to us especially when playing against them. So better to get money for him and out the door to get someone else in.
Squad player for the remainder of the season if he signs for them I think.

GMS knows that he is walking at the end of this season, Chairman knows he is walking. If he walks, Chairman gets nothing for one of the hottest talents in Scottish fitba. What does Chairman do? Take the attitude, "well, it's your choice Gary", or start pressuring him so that the Chairman can get something out of him, other than another few months of his scintillating fitba skills?
Until recently, there has been something wrong with GMS way more than simply being off-form, or injured. Heard more than one person comment something along the lines of, "reckon he has fallen oot wi Jackie".
Something along the above lines is what I have suspected for some time, and this 250K price tag being released to the press by the club pretty much confirms my suspicions. An act of desperation. Like the chairman asking, "if ye are finished with that fag mate, gie it tae me before ye chuck it on the ground!" Pathetic.
As for the comments regarding GMS such as
"wee sh1tebag"
"Scum"
"relegate him to position of squad player" (like that one hasn't already been tried with him....totally at the clubs expense might I add)
"dead to me now"
I refer to my earlier derogatory comments against many United fans, for which I was reprimanded by the owner of this board.
GMS has been the most tremendous, most exciting, most entertaining Utd player I have ever seen (Ralph Milne was pish by the time I was going to games regularly). He is an honest player, he came here for fuck all and in his time has delivered exceptionally well. He has the right to want to move up to a higher more demanding, more challenging, and more rewarding level, and he has the right not to want to be forced into any actions which benefit the club at his expense or against his will. He doesn't owe the club fuck all.

Ken what....I suspect you will find that this isn't Utd Mad.
I was reprimanded for the terms that I used, which I have not repeated although when people start making knee-jerk reactionary comments such as the ones I quoted above, then the sentiment behind my earlier comment is proven to be totally valid as far as I am concerned.
People with mentalities like that, would have been the ones who in days of old, crammed into the mercat square whenever their was a 'good hanging' or 'burning' to see........i.e. the great unwashed, and I don't like it.

Stephen Thompson goes and puts a poxy 250K fee on GMS's head.
Stephen Thompson is a penny grubbing cunt. Fact.
Utd Mad, where I have gotten in big fights (and banned) due to saying that ST is a penny pinching prick, is full of peh munchin mongols. Fact.
GMS being 'off the ball' in recent weeks (until lately), was most likely due to trouble behind the scenes at the club, due to his refusal to play ball contractwise, in a way which would allow the club to capitalise on his ass. GMS always wanted to see out his contract here, and then walk. ST wants to get as much beans and crumbs as he can possibly get, for every player in that team. Fact.
At Utd, beans n crumbs comes way before the football. That is why Aberdeen are challenging for, and in my view, will probably win the SPL this year, and that is why we aren't challenging, and have no chance of winning the SPL. Fact.Matt you are an interesting poster and i want you to continue to post here but please don't refer to our fans in that term on here again please.
Your colourful terminology for our Chairman is also a bit out of order imo.
Reign it in a bit please. Also a wee positive post once in awhile wouldnae kill you mate.
Just some friendly advice.
I hate it when ST puts a price on a player. He is basically stating the most we will get for a player will be X and letting clubs know how much we accept for the player.
Thing I don't like about all this is that GMS has months to make a decision. IMO opinion he is being offered some bad advice from his agents if he is jumping at Celtic's first bid. That's unless he is desperate to go to Celtic.
I genuinely don't believe that between now and the end of the season a league one club are the only club down south that will offer him a deal.
I also don't think for a second he will give United 100% till the end of the season as I just don't think it's possible for the boy regardless if he does it intentionally or not. Like Fojut previously, he gets one bad injury and Celtic could rip up the whole deal.
I am gutted he is potentially going to them as I think he is much better than that.

GMS on his day is absolutely one of the best players that have ever played for Utd BUT he hadn't done it regularly enough as if he had we would have been waving bye bye to him over twa years ago.
In the end of the day the players have the power not the clubs. If a club came in with a £500k offer it is up to the player to agree to go not the clubs. GMS wants to go to Celtic he'll go to Celtic nothing a manger or Chairman can do. Think Thomson is sticking the price out to see who if any are willing to pay that GMS might fancy. If no fishes bite ye get fook all.

Change his name to Garov Marco Svensson and Celtic will give us £2m and call it a coup.

Ken what Matt have a wee holiday fae here for a week or 2.
Tried to 'reprimand' you in the friendliest way possible but you obviously think you're a smart arse by in a backhanded manner reffering to us in the same way you reffered to the posters from another forum.I'm not in the mood for that today.
There has been no ill-feeling on this forum in the 7 months since it's inception, and i'm not going to allow that to fester.
I have left you a PM.

As regards GMS i am very dissapointed it looks like he is wanting to move to Celtic.
If Ronny Deila has today indicated he would like him to take in January i hope some sort of deal can be struck.
We get in another couple of players and concentrate on lads who want to be here.
Online!
And btw FWIW completely agree with our Chairman trying to recuperate some money in this instance.
Once a player commits himself to a rival it creates an unacceptable conflict of interests imo.

Ye totally agree TEK if we can get him Oot the door noo, he's got his move nae point buggering the season for a boy who has only contributed to id give it 5 games this season!
Offline
Conflict of interest is a great point actually.
If GMS says he's moving to Celtic to play in Champions League, last day of the season Celtic are at Tannadice if they lose they finish second.
If we win he'll not play in the CL.

Whole things a mess, the whole pre contract thing allows for it tho. It's not a great system but think legally it has to be there.
As far as GMS goes, think the Celtic things been on the cards a lot longer than we're getting told, to me ST's 250k was an attempt to get them to bite now or to pull in a bid from elsewhere to stop them getting him, so far doesn't look like it's worked but probably worth a try.
If he signs for them now and stays with us till the summer, how much he's used really depends on his attitude in the remaining months.
As for Mat the Cat and his comments on ST, really bizarre, the guys doing a great job running our club, his dad spunked a helluva lot of money up the wall and there was a big corner to turn in the way the club was run, he's done it very well indeed.
Anyway eh'm awa for a peh

Would be majorly pissed off if he signed a pre-contract with the Tatties for a couple of reasons.
Said he wants to go to England. OK - only Sheffield United have come in for him and they're not an attractive option unless they go up.
However, it's only January and if he keeps performing then there will be a queue at his door come the end of the season and he can then assess if they're are any clubs he fancies. If not then he can sign for Celtic.
BUT - I really believe he doubts his own abilities and consistency and is worried that he'll be left with nowt and that may sway his decision to sign a pre-contract.
Difficult one this.

FAF!
But that's bang on.
Their belief that coz someone is foreign he must be better is baffling.
Could make aboot 3 teams worth o shite that the BIgot Brothers have signed coz o that reason. (might be a topic in itself!)

On Sky Sports, GMS signs pre contract with Celtic to join in the summer.

Just have to hope that the "mystery bug" that's been plaguing him since August, comes back again this August.

Ach well, so be it. It's a good move for him. If he had a choice between Celtic and third tier football in England, he's made the right choice. I would have preferred if it had been kept quiet until summer but I think this is Celtic trying to force through a move in January. GMS can't be blamed for that.
We can't really moan about this when we're doing exactly the same thing with O'Donnell.

Eh hear ya but what I canna understand is he didna have to make this decision until the summer. He's made it now.
Until the last two or three games, you didna know which GMS was gonna turn up and we still dont know this now that he has committed himself to the Tatties.
Conflict of interest and ehd bin him.
Now a place in the team for someone who wants to stay and has eveything to prove.
