Looks like we're in for the laddie....is he a right back?

Re: Stephen O'Donnell partick thistle

Just read this online, yeah he's a rb.  Makes sense with Mark Wilson being released.

Re: Stephen O'Donnell partick thistle

Got umpteen different options at RB but non an automatic shoe in imho... Could be a good signing and push spittal up in front of him...think he's better going forward

Re: Stephen O'Donnell partick thistle

Spittal isn't a rb, that's for sure.

As I said last night, I think we need a dead cert stick on right back (and keeper) who are better than what we have at present.

Don't know if this Partick boy is the one right enough.

Re: Stephen O'Donnell partick thistle

If anyone finds out where Spittal can actually look effective can you drop me a line please.

Would hope that they might offer Partick a wee sweetener to get him now?

If he is our first choice right back for the forseable then get him in now if poss.

Ha ha, a bit harsh.

I think he's been effective when he comes off the bench, granted we're normally winning by then.

Can't say he's ever taken the game by the scruff of the neck when he's started though.

If Jackie can move Watson on early then I agree.

As it is though, I think Watson can do a job until May.

Glad its not just me that thinks this.  Can't beat a man, crossing average so not really a winger, but not really a defender either.  Feel for the laddie that he keeps getting compared to Andy Robbo due to the Queens Park connection because he couldn't lace Andy boots on the evidence presented so far.

He appears to be an honest laddie and I hope he can improve but at the moment he's not up to the same standard of the other attacking midfielders we have.

Too much commotion

Cheers Stobie! Wondered if that was you.

Still look into Mad occasionally but looks like TEK is doing a grand job here...

Re: Stephen O'Donnell partick thistle

Think Spittal will come good, young, needs time. Can see there is a player in there. Just look to Callum Butcher as an example.

Re: Stephen O'Donnell partick thistle

Think I'm right in saying Spittal was a straight up centre mid for QP.

We don't really have that in our team. He's not physical enough to play in the defensive two but not skilful/dynamic enough to play in the more forward three. JM said on the radio post match last night that he's definitely not a RB but he's been playing him there because of his passing and athleticism.

Still very early days for him.

Re: Stephen O'Donnell partick thistle

Money should be spent elsewhere coz we've an abundance o guys who can play RB.

Thought overall, given that he doesna really play there, Spittal could be a real prospect in that position

Re: Stephen O'Donnell partick thistle

I'm gonna stick my neck on the line and say i think Spittal WILL be a Right Back.

He done great at RB the 2 games at Easter Road (one in pre-season) and also really improved the team going there v Partick after Dillon was moved to CH.

I'm not convinced he's an attacking midfielder, but i think he could be moulded into a decent full back.

He's raw at the moment but give him time i think there is a solid player there in time.Needs to fill oot aswell.Seen maire meat on a butcher's knife.

Re: Stephen O'Donnell partick thistle

Watched highlights of the 2-2 game on Arabzone today, O'Donnell looked really good.

Involved in both goals, two footed, good passer, long throw in and happy to take boys on down the wing.

Only one game but promising.

We may have plenty boys that can play right back but not one of them is good enough to start for United, speaks volumes that Jackie plays Spittal then regularly states that he's not a right back.

Re: Stephen O'Donnell partick thistle

Speaking to a Partick fan i know today, he is gutted that the O'Donnell story looks like it may be true.

Seemingly he is a proper modern day wing back, up and down the line all day.

Re: Stephen O'Donnell partick thistle

If Watson and Dillo leave, I'd be happy with this guy as a pre.

Speaking to Ray Farningham before we signed this lad and his exact words were "You think Andy Robertson is a great prospect, Blair Spittal has the potential to be even better" prospect is the key word here, please give a young laddie a chance, btw Ray is a great lad too.
