Re: Billy Thomson

Very sad to hear this.

What a great keeper for United. So many important games he played for us and some great memories of watching him play for our club.

RIP Billy.

Re: Billy Thomson

So sad to hear of this.

Have fond memories of him playing, esp. in our UEFA Cup campaign. What a great keeper he was for United.

RIP.

Re: Billy Thomson

Sad news, a brilliant keeper. 64 is no age. He was in good fettle on the Dode Fox Podcast just a few months ago too. RIP

Too much commotion

Re: Billy Thomson

He came in to replace the most iconic keeper we've ever had and was arguably even better.
His tracky bottoms will be flying at half mast this evening.

Re: Billy Thomson

Like so many on here he was one of my hero’s growing up.

If I was ever in goal at world cuppie, I was always Billy Thompson.

RIP big fella.

Re: Billy Thomson

He was the only Goalie that i ever imitated or wanted to be. I was normally all about the Strikers.

But when i was a kid i would pull my 3 stripe Adidas tangerine Utd socks up over my joggie bottoms and pestered my parents for a pair of Reusch goalie gloves  (if they were good enough for Billy, they were good enough for me). A really iconic Utd player and all-round cool looking guy. Damn good Keeper too. Good kicking, good at crosses and good shot stopper. Ticked every box.

This was very sad news to wake up to on a Monday morning. Rest easy, big man.

Will leave you with a poignant picture of Gothenburg lifting the UEFA Cup in front of the Utd players. Look at the pain and anguish in Billy's body language. In the modern era when you often see players laughing and high-fiving opponents afters a loss it is a reminder that the game was once filled with guys like Billy who were out and out winners, adored by their teams supporters and consummate Pro's respected by their peers.
