St.Mirren vs Utd - Saturday 22/10/22

What XI and formation would you like to see us play in Paisley on Saturday?

Re: St.Mirren vs Utd - Saturday 22/10/22

I'd like to see Fox stiffen up the midfield, play Djoum and Sibbald together and let Levitt play.

Re: St.Mirren vs Utd - Saturday 22/10/22

Not too fussed on the starting 11 but these guys need to harden up and pronto.

Our wing back and sided CHs had better be prepared for long diagonal balls tomorrow.  We showed a massive weakness against Killie and St Mirren will look to exploit.

The midfield also need to show s bit more courage where it hurts,  anyone can take the ball off Edwards toes and pass it back the way. Let's see us playing more football in their half and not knocking it about our box.

Fight/dig is what is required tomorrow,  let's hope they match the efforts again of another strong travelling shed.

Re: St.Mirren vs Utd - Saturday 22/10/22

VAR and the woodwork saved us from taking 4 or 5 today.

We are in deep, deep trouble.

Even this early in the season the spectre of relegation hangs over us. We've all seen this movie before, sadly.

We are as saft as sh1te.

Undone beh p1sh defending.

All the achievement of the recent wins undone.

Can ye believe at this stage in the Season that the Midden are 10 points in front oe us. I mean that's 3 wins more than them we need just to be in sight oe them. FFS.

St Mirren are miles ahead of us on the park currently.

They are streetwise, organised and can defend much better than us. More than anything they look as if they know what they are doing.

We are miles off it, we can't stop crosses and there is a reluctance to put our head in first. This isn't an overnight thing it's been like this all season.

We got three clean sheets vs Motherwell (still can't believe it) , Aberdeen they missed a good few chances including an open goal, Hibs was another fluke (fortunately they got that goal chopped off), we are still persevering with three at the back and no improvement in the performance on the park.

We are nailed on for the bottom two.

Re: St.Mirren vs Utd - Saturday 22/10/22

Just back.

A bit unlucky. They hit the woodwork a few times and had a goal disallowed so I can't say in good faith we deserved to win, but by the same token I don't think we deserved to lose. Thought Fletcher was absolutely brilliant when he came on, won everything in the air and scored a cracker. Good assist from Watto as well.

Wasn't an amazing performance but was decent. Good feeling about the next game v Motherwell, we have been very, very good at home recently.

Fucking stinking. We fucked up massively with not bringing in a real goalkeeper.

Re: St.Mirren vs Utd - Saturday 22/10/22

Eriksson surely has to get dropped?? He's had his chance and simply isn't good enough.

Granted the defence has been shite but they need someone behind they have confidence in.

Behich can't seem to jump or mark which is pretty worrying. Two identical goals from today and Tuesday against killie coming from his position.

And lastly utd have simply got to stop crosses coming into the box. So so soft at defending crosses.

Re: St.Mirren vs Utd - Saturday 22/10/22

A draw is the very least we should be looking at coming away from Paisley and that is if StMirren play out of there skins and Utd have a bad day. I still fail to see how at the very least we can’t show a fighting spirit for 90 minutes. This is getting rediculous how easy we are to beat

Re: St.Mirren vs Utd - Saturday 22/10/22

The most depressing aspect about today is that Utd actually played pretty well (by our standards).

Yet, as i said St.Mirren won and could have easily won by a couple more.

Beaten us twice this season comfortably. That's galling and a sad indictment of where we are as a club just now.

Awful recruitment, bad management (from the boardroom to the dugout) and baffling tactical decisions has us in real danger of going back down to the Championship. If that were to happen i really, really fear for the future of the club.

This DUSG meeting with Ogren and Asghar on Thursday night should be very interesting.

Re: St.Mirren vs Utd - Saturday 22/10/22

I missed the game today unfortunately but something I feel has gone unnoticed this season is how poor the recruitment has been in defence.

With Neilson, our 3rd centrehalf, and Butcher definitely not returning, there appears to have been no effort to sign anyone in this area. Now, it's clear Jack Ross went in to the season intent on playing 4 at the back, however, we have an aging Mulgrew, who's had his injury problems, as a regular starter, with absolutely no cover to speak of.

For all the shortcomings of Smith and McMann, they are not natural centre halves, and to expect them to cover these areas in a back 4 (nevermind a back 3 which is much more difficult to play!) for weeks at a time in the event of an injury to Mulgrew or Edwards is absolutely scandalous recruitment, and unfair on those players. It's worth remembering that the beginning of the slope for the club during the Post GMS-Armstrong/relegation era was when we started relying on a fullback, Sean Dillon, to play CB every other week, when he started off as a reasonably solid RB.

The platform of Uniteds more successful periods in recent years has been built on solid recruitment in Central defence. Levein-Houston era of Wilkie Dods, Wilkie Kenneth, Webster Wilkie and, the solid, if unspectacular championshop winning combination of Connolly-Reynolds. Likewise our poorest times coincide with terrible recruitment in Central defence, gunning, McLean, durnan, toshney, Adam Barton (sorry for the PTSD).

Reprehensible recruitment.

Yep, agree about the comments on the lack of centre half cover and no recruitment done on this - criminal

.

Non-recruitment in defence and defensive midfield particularly galling after losing Neilson, Butcher (who could also play CH), Fuchs, McDonald.

But not our only failing in recruitment. Not by a long chalk.

Letting Trevor Carson go after Benji's contract had ran out. Why? There was our Number 1, and we simply just had to recruit an able No.2 to deputise and challenge him.

Letting Nicky Clark go even after Jack Ross had been punted. Again, why? A far better bet for a goal from the bench than Sadat Anaku, who although doesn't look terrible is clearly raw right now and will take some time to get to grips with Scottish football (if he ever does).

It's all rather baffling and counter productive.

I'd say it's more to do with his competence and then his ego.  I also genuinely hope he is making SFA out of our club but somehow I fear that is not the case.  Still we'll have plenty that think things are alright because we fluked 4th last year and had one embarrasment of a round in Europe.
