United sign Murray...

United pay £50k to secure the services of Arbroath striker.

He was on a free contract in summer but United move now to guarantee they get him.

Loaned back to Arbroath immediately so we won't see him until next season.

Re: United sign Murray...

Why do Arbroath get a cut off future transfer fee's if he's out of contract soon and were paying 50k?

Because he's under 24?

Re: United sign Murray...

Don't know for sure, but I think Utd have stepped in before any other club can secure a pre-contract, or sign him as a free agent later. Hope the transfer fee, including add-ons, negates any development fee, and it's a case of 1st dibs and, therefore, fortune favours the brave.

Coincidentally, or not, that's Jackie's philosophy/ethos for playing the beautiful game.

And I fucking love it.

Re: United sign Murray...

One for the future it would seem.

Doesn't change the fact that we desperately need in another forward NOW.

Quite concerned that there'll be no other forwards signed now unless Nads goes.Which would mean we would then need 2 forwards.

I also have tae question the 50k paid when he could sign a pre-contract NOW.

50k is roughly a YEARS wages for one of our first team players.A fee not to be sniffed at,in short.

Re: United sign Murray...

Definitely one for the future, and would hope the reason for the pre-emptive strike.

Appreciate your, and other's, concerns re strikers but we're not doing too bad bearing in mind the unfortunate injuries to offensive players so far.

One in, one out, wouldn't be a disaster for me right now.

Re: United sign Murray...

It means we're guarenteed to get him, 20K now and 30K In Installments.

Re: United sign Murray...

He could have signed a pre contact but by him signing today means he can pack in whatever job he has, turn up at Tannadice on Monday for training, train with us all week and play with Arbroath at the weekend.

The last time we  missed out on a youngster from Arbroath he turned out to be a International & a double silver kisser.

Re: United sign Murray...

Very true, if your not fast your last. Worth a gamble. Hope he gets a fair crack at it from the fans when his time comes

Re: United sign Murray...

Good point made by Rocky above, the boy is a time served plumber the now, working 40 hours a week then training twice a week (probably in the central belt somewhere) and playing on a Saturday.

Now he'll be at St Andrews training full time and playing with Arbroath on a Saturday, which means he'll hopefully hit the ground running in pre season.

Also, I like the fact that we've just said "fuck risking losing him to sign for someone else on a freezer, here's £50k" shows the right intent and also filters money down to the lower leagues.

Sort of the way it used to be in relative terms, how many of our club legends and even just decent pro's were procured this way. Healthy for Scottish clubs and the game.

Re: United sign Murray...

Whooft! That is some doo and a half!

Like the sound of him and the way business has been done. Chances are we would have had to be paying a fee of similiar sorts anyway so in early to get it done and dusted. Plus as mentioned he can effectively go full-time.

Re: United sign Murray...

Spoke to a few boys today who have played with and against Murray at junior and senior level and they were all of the same opinion that he is nowhere nearly ready for the premier (as most normal people would think/know)

They all said he is fast, a great finisher, not too tall, 5'11" and he needs to builk up a little.

Another five months at Arbroath banging in the goals and in full time training with United bulking up hopefully will see him possibly ready for the bench this time next season.

Re: United sign Murray...

No, if Nads goes this window, we'll be looking more upmarket.

Just hope there's no need.

Re: United sign Murray...

As Bennyboy highlighted in another thread and other sports writers have mentioned surely no harm can be done by signing the Top Goalscorer in Scotland and in the meantime one of our lesser if not well established Clubs in Scotland benefit from this now and in the long run. Take a look at Queens Park for example, for all the mumping and moaning which may actually have been incouraged by some West Coast manipulative red tops, they have indeed themselves been drip fed £100000 by the unfairly criticised but World Famous Dundee United Football Club.
