From what I can see the Shed will be closed again today, with away fans in the JK/Jim McLean stands. This has always been a bugbear of mine, I think having the stand behind a goal empty makes the ground feel emptier, takes a lot away from the atmosphere, and looks a bit tinpot on TV as well.
In my view, if United can't sell out the Shed (and we only sell it out for derbies) then the bigger away supports should get it (along with the Jim McLean stand). The Jerry Kerr facilities are very poor, with no legroom at all, and I'm not sure why we'd use that as anything other than a last resort.
The only argument I can see for closing the Shed is to stop a large and vociferous away support cheering their team on. I'd like to think that Courts and the team have a bit more belief in themselves, and would thrive off the atmosphere rather than crumble under it.
Maybe I'm making a mountain out of a molehill, but these are my thoughts anyway.

Yeah I agree, I think it makes for a better atmosphere.

I disagree, I'd happily take the hit financially and not give away teams the shed, especially Celtic after what they did to us the cunts. Give us any advantage we can get i say

I'm not sure what advantage having an empty stand gives us to be honest, I don't think it'll inspire any of our players, and as I said above I'd hope they have enough belief in themselves not to be disheartened by away fans in there making some noise . It just improves the atmosphere in the entire stadium.
As for cutting away allocations, for me that would be financially suicidal and would have a direct impact on playing budgets going forward (especially as we're charging £30 for Cat A games).

It doesnt give us an advantage but takes away the advantage for the opposition shooting towatds their own fans.
Our opposition today have used this tactic for the last 25yrs housing away fans in quite possibly the worst away end in the SPL.
The atmosphere used to be much better
when away fans were housed in the Beech end and before that behind the other goal.
Aberdeen were looking to lessen the impact of away fans, exactly what we should be trying to do.

That's a good point Beharder. The only thing I'd say is that Aberdeen seem to have enough fans to fill out behind both goals at Pittodrie . If we could do that, even 50% filling the Shed with home fans, then I would absolutely be in favour of that. But we can't, so it's empty.
I just feel that we should be doing everything possible to improve the atmosphere, make the game more marketable (empty stands is a bad look for TV) and not treat away fans like second class citizens by giving them the worst stand and leaving a better one empty (the last point isn't unique to United by any means, a lot of clubs do this, and in any other industry it just wouldn't stand).
Anyway, just my view, but I'd rather see Tannadice jumping with a great atmosphere from both home and away fans.

What was the attendance today? Be great to have Utd fans in the shed but we only fill the other two stands v Dundee unfortunately

Excellent point by beharder, old Beech end was great, the small section you get now is a disgrace.....

Commercial reality is we should set out the stadium to sell the most tickets. If neither set of supporters bring enough to make the Shed commercially viable then it should stay shut.

Correct Finn, that's the reality.

I agree with the principle, I just think the Shed should be open and the Jerry Kerr shut rather than the other way round.
