Spfl strategic review

https://www.dundeeunitedfc.co.uk/news/7009/SPFL-MEMBER-CLUBS-INVEST-IN-INDEPENDENT-ADVICE-ON-STRATEGIC-REVIEW.html?utm_campaign=coschedule&utm_source=facebook_page&utm_medium=Dundee%20United%20Football%20Club

Wow. This is a bolt from the blue but one which is long overdue....and I commend united as well as the other member clubs who have pushed for this.

United and the SPFL in general are absolutely shocking at selling itself and the number of missed opportunities we let past us - so hopefully this sees a real look at ourself both as a club and as part of an organisation.

The only bit I'm concerned about is why did other clubs not get in on the act too? This is going to be for the benefit of the whole league yet it appears its only East Coast teams who are stumping up for it.

Re: Spfl strategic review

As my first thought....

The Barry hearn speech many moons ago made a lot of sense and if we can use this (or the findings which you would imagine would be similar) to progress the league and increase revenues and in turn the quality of coaching and players we can sign, then I'm all for it.

I think from the outside in the league looks petty and small. In no small part to infighting (the covid case, the religious part of the old firm etc), whereas we have a fantastic product. We've got a bunch of players playing for Scotland and in the epl. We've got history and some exciting projects with new owners... a lot of what we need is for the press to buy into the new exciting league...no more sh!te from Davies crocker....ie its a cold dark dreary night at hampden and Scotland face the impossible etc etc.....

And as a bug bear of mine....get the old Scottish football intro the feck (the toothless wonder with his killing pies) and invest in some graphics - get scottish boys doing the walk on etc. Scottish football isn't the EPL but we don't have the be the poor neighbours. An exciting league will lead to better sponsorships and more people attending/viewing etc

Re: Spfl strategic review

About time something like this happened.
The best way to unlock revenues is to give the clubs involved even a remote chance of winning the league.
The sectarian two have had 35 years of dominance and will fight any hint of change tooth and nail.
The rebel 5 ( as the Daily Ranger & The Sun will undoubtedly call them) must stand up the tidal wave of abuse and pressure coming at them from the West Coast.

Barry Hearn addressing an SFA Convention at Hampden in 2014....
'I'm not an expert on Scottish football but listening to your financial figures it doesn't seem like that you are either'.

We're not listening...

Re: Spfl strategic review

The link seems to be American owners (except hearts) rather than east coast based but it is peculiar that the other teams out with Glasgow aren’t up for this or haven’t been involved. It looks like a no lose situation which the SPFL have also backed. So there’s no rebel element. Just a strong view that things could be a lot better and not to accept the status quo.

Why TF would St J or Motherwell not want that? Is it something to do with the potential of the teams that are involved to pull away from the historically smaller teams should this happen? I.e. we’re pretty level now but if there’s more money going about these clubs have more chances building bigger fan base and pulling away from those with limited fan bases I.e Motherwell ?

Re: Spfl strategic review

It's clubs 3-7 in terms of fan base so leading from the front.
A 5-pronged attack not requiring all 12 Premier clubs or indeed all 42 SPFL clubs.
It'll be costing a pretty penny,.I hope Deloitte has some clever people.

Some very clever people and chairmen open to a revolution?

From my point, it cant just be about the top 12 - it needs to be from Highland league upwards. The smaller clubs are just as important as any. Jeez we've signed some amount of boys from lower league teams and had plenty more out on loan.

Understand where you're coming from but the scope to me looks different from the standard root and branch review of football and much more commercially focused on the top league.

You could be right but to me all has to filter down....whether that's increased revenues leading to increased prize money or whatever... I presume a lot of your Brechin, forfar, montroses etc won't have money to make big changes but we need to look after these teams too.

What odds on them recommending a different style league (rugby league style as suggested by schtevie Thompson some years ago?) If we want big money, we had to be different to other leagues I guess
