Nothing but doom and gloom on the transfer front. Our best players basically in limbo until someone offers the right price (or not) to the end of the transfer window. Our main targets yet again unaffordable. One geriatric signed and one (who we inexplicably extended for 2 years) quoted as being a key player for us when he's never been able to be anything other than bit part due to injuries. We play a half against, Highland League Brechin with our "Championship" team and score 4 goals we bring on the promising youngsters (touted as ready for the step-up) and they effectively lose the second half against Highland League Brechin City. Pardon me for not being positive about the new season. I am excited about it though, if totally shitting yourself can be defined as excited.

I can’t wait but will be watching between fingers. The cup games don’t worry me but the league definitely does.

I cannot believe we still haven’t signed a winger

The "Championship" team that finished comfortably clear of relegation in the Premier Division.
We'd all love to have signed a few but we not lost anyone really so I don't share your drastic and pessimistic view on things.

I put "Championship" in quotes to reflect the fact that it was the same team, not to belittle its achievements (with an experienced manager at the helm). The reality is however that we won't have that team come the window shutting (or the manager). McNulty and others away already. Siegrist unlikely to be here. Shankland and Edwards gone if the price is right. Take those out without quality replacements and we are firmly in relegation territory unless the youngsters step up. And that was my point - the youngsters couldn't handle a Brechin team that our old guys dealt with comfortably 15 minutes before. Add to that that our competition is likely to be stronger. Jambos will be better than Killie or Hamilton and the Dees looked comfortably better than Killie, standing still won't be good enough so we still need to keep what we have and bring in 2 or 3 improvements (assuming that Mulgrew is an improvement). We are currently sleepwalking back to the Championship in my opinion and with the staff levels we have and the level of current interest from the Ogrens, insolvency would follow. It may be pessimistic, but I think it is also realistic.

Where are we with first team players?
Gk - Siegreist, if tam will stop pimping him out in the press
Rb Liam Smith
Lb robson, sporle
Cb connolly Edwards Reynolds mulgre
Lm chalmers appere?
Rm
Cm butch, jeando, harkes, Pawlett
St shanks, clark
So from the basic idea of 2 players for each position, we would need a keeper, rb , 2 rm and 2 St
I predict we will sign 1 keeper and a striker and maybe a middle seeing as the boy sacked us off.
Also not to labour the point....the press originally said we'd agreed terms with the boy and then tam said there was a difference in value - so we didn't do the deal. Be good to all push the same line

Imo we need a left back, 2 wingers, a midfielder who can pass the ball forward and a striker
We scored 32 times last season, we scored over 2 goals ONCE in the league last season- absolutely pathetic, this seasons league is going to be much harder- hearts will be up there, Motherwell won’t be as bad surely, Dundee who knows what they’ll be like, the longer we go on and having not signed a single creative player the more I’ll worry
No doubt we’ll sign 3 a week before the season starts and get a told “ we need to give these boys 4 weeks to fully get up to speed”, these players need signed ASAP

Difficult for the club to replace players who are still here.

Don't think we'll sign a LB unless we lose one of Robson or Sporle. Would like one... but I'd say wingers, a centre mid and another striker are the 3 priority positions going on the balance of the squad. Then a back up goalie assuming Benji stays. After that maybe a left back but I can't see it tbh.

Did you not read what I said? We need 2 or 3 players in addition to the ones that might leave. We'll need more to replace them if they do.

I really doubt it is true. But then again, who knows.

Apparently there’s another club in for robson now, I reckon he might go

I can't remember a time when it's felt more like everyone needs a boost from a decent signing. The starting XI, the club as a whole and the fan base could really do with someone that has a bit of a track record of being productive in an attacking sense either through goals and/or assists and ideally with a bit of pace. Maybe subdued after last years constrained performances but the same names on the team sheet dampen the spirits each team i see it.
Easier said than done to bring in someone that meets that brief, and i know we're absolutely rooked at the minute, but in terms of Value Vs Cost, think it could be absolutely huge for everyone.

I can't see a situation where we don't sign anyone.
We need a winger. 100%
We could use a new centre mid and striker.
We probably need a new backup goalie.
Assuming no one leaves, the above is all we need to have a top 6 squad imo. Assuming the recruited players are better than what we have now.

That's the problem as I see it. To bring someone in with the quality we would all like to see is going to cost money and when was the last time we spent money to buy a player?

Thoughts on the shankland interview? I'm not sure if I'm just fed uo with united just now and looking for issues or if there's something more. Shanks looking at his options etc. No rush to sign a contract - doesn't sound particularly on board- especially after such a poor season by his own standards...

If he doesn't start tomorrow nite Tangy I think that would mean we'll be losing him.
So we could find out within 30 hours.
I really hope he stays, he'll be determined to put last year's wrongs to right and who knows, Tam Courts might just be his biggest accomplice.
And apart from being an excellent footballer he also seems a lovely guy.

I read the Shankland interview as him doing the right thing for him. Not burning bridges with us whilst issuing a come and get me to anyone else. Sounds to me as if there isn't interest as yet and that he thinks he is as well starting the season with us and seeing what interest there is in December when he can either extend or sign a pre-contract with someone else. If we have any sense (and spare cash) I think we should be offering him increased terms but with a sensible buy-out option if someone comes looking and that's likely to be well <£1M.
