The Transfer Window opens one month today (9th June), so time to start the transfer speculation.
Think we all agree Utd need a strong Summer transfer window and have to recruit very well, bringing in players who are hungry, ambitious, and a mix of physical, fast and fit. They also need to be the right age.
Two rumours today to kick things off.
Aston Villa and Man Utd interested in young Kerr Smith.
Ipswich Town reportedly interested in Benji Siegrist, with a fee of 400k mentioned.

Only incoming rumour I’ve really heard is that we are one of a few clubs after Connor Shields at QOS
There was something about us after a South American left back a few weeks ago too actually, but not heard anymore on that

Interesting rumour.
3 caps for Sweden and he's only 22. Would be a bit of a coup.

Looks like the love child of Bruno Fernandes and Ralph Little 🤣

A wee 15 minute Google/YouTube of the guy paints a pretty good picture. Left footed attacking midfielder. Can play central or wide, good dribbler, finisher and passing going by some of those videos (I know...its only YouTube) but the boy has caps for Sweden at all levels so he must have something.
Potential signings like this makes having guys like Connolly, Clark and Pawlett make sense to me. They are not going to be starters every week but also aren't going to grumble too much about being left on the bench, although they will still be needed frequently throughout the season. It means we can either bring through youngsters OR sign guys like this who might take a bit of time to adapt, or might need dropped now and again, but we have solid replacements to come in that we know can do a job.
I think in terms of the summer it all depends on who leaves, but assume no one leaves, we really need a creative attacking midfielder and have needed one for a few seasons now (probably since Scott Fraser left). Will it be this guy? Who knows, but its good to see rumours that we are after guys with a bit of pedigree behind them. It was similar when we saw Jeando being linked. Cameroon international playing for a team in La Liga (I know he barely played but still). Promising signs that we are thinking outside the box. We have the journeymen pros, we have the young and inexperienced kids, now we need a sprinkle of quality in some positions.
Jeando has given us it in defensive midfield, Edwards has certainly improved our backline, now its time to sort out the attacking positions.
Just on the Jeando mention am I right in saying he was buzzing for the last 20 mins on Saturday but seldom saw him before that?

Would agree. He has been a bit up and down recently. Definitely best suited to a defensive midfield 2 as opposed to a 3 where he is maybe expected to create more.

I reckon we will see the following go...
Shanks
Benji
King
Powers
McMullan
Sporle
Bolton
Possibly the young lad smith if villa give us a decent offer and he wants it
Outside bet on one of appere/charmers going. Depending on the budgets, it should give us a good platform to sign some v good professionals and have them supported by the kids who hopefully are more up to speed on proper men's fitba after their loan spells

Canna see Sporle going. And I'll be surprised if Shanks doesn't see his contract out with us. The rest though seem fairly solid. King might not 'leave' but he'll certainly not be part of the squad. Maybe another loan. The boys no daft. He wont get our wages anywhere else.
Benji seems the most likely to leave, and to be honest, you couldnt grudge the club for taking ANY offer at the moment that is well into 6 figures considering the nightmare the last 15 months has been for the club.
Seen 4/500k quoted, he is certainly worth more than that and you'd hope in the end we can get over 700k for him... but time will tell. The club aren't in a position to take chances with that kind of dough.

All fair points. King seems to fit in well at raith - so possibly a wee severance package there? It's not to say he's on megabucks. Shanks is a funny one. His young family are here and he's not had a good season... just not sure the club want to see him run down his contract. Stick Jon day up top with him and he will get back to scoring ways 🤣

I can us having a very busy window and it has to be imo
Needed: Goalkeeper, left back, 2 wingers at least, a creative midfielder and 1/2 strikers
Benji will be gone, none of the out of contract players will be renewed, wouldn’t be surprised if shankland is away and potentially Edwards will have teams down south looking at him (Wigan were in jan) and it sounds like Kerr smith could be away also
Time will tell

Mickey, Tony and everyone else on this forum knows what we need but getting them is the problem. IMHO we are not going to be buying any players so out of contract and willing to come is where we’re at. Fast wingers, creative midfielders, left backs and big target men are probably what 90% of clubs want/need. I hope I’m wrong but I just can’t see us having a busy transfer window with a lot of signings but can see a lot of fringe players moving on to allow the development squad to progress as per the new club model.
I also hope we don’t go down the loan signing route as most of the time they don’t work out.

After Hamilton’s relegation we should be getting a deal done for Scott McMann, left back good player

Ross Callachan has really stood out for them this season.
10 goals from Centre Mid and has really started to become a midfielder who takes responsibility and drives his team forward.

Read elsewhere Celtic scouting Mochrie and possibly others for the their colts team next season

Are you Chris Mochrie?

On a serious note, they’ve (Celtic) been heavily linked with the boy Robert at Airdrie who very rarely plays for them which seems very strange given the number of apparently interested teams. Not sure if he’s been dropped or part of a pre agreed deal.
If not, maybe something to do with the type of play in that league that ball players are often dropped in favour of a certain type of player needed to be combative

No surprises there.
I'm probably in the minority but i quite liked Powers. Calm on the ball and a good passer.

Had a lot of time for Powers. If a Championship club go for him I reckon he would shine in that league given a run of a games.

Quite surprised we never added Luke Bolton on to that list as someone not returning to Tannadice.
We could have sent him back to Man City last September tbqhwy. Never kicked a ball thereafter.
Maybe a wee lesson for us all that signing guys on loan is just halting the progress of a youth player.
Would have played Chalmers, Appere or Meekison ahead of Bolton this season. Or particularly (for me) the player we daren't mention anymore (McMullan).

Yeah, think McMullan got a raw deal.
