Clear we need width but really think we need a big target man. Width a together man and shankland buzzing about all goodie and we could be devastating.
I'd also take the boy callahan in the middle from Hamilton. Having a great season and can do a bit of everything
Thoughts? Any big target men out there?

I was impressed by ICT winger Daniel Mackay on Friday night v Ross County - scored a brilliant goal, cutting in from the wing. Not seen him before and don’t know if he’s consistent or anything but looks a prospect (only 19).

Heard Declan Gallagher’s got a contract on the table from us, but Micky’s thing in the press about us not wanting to upset our own players by offering contracts out while they’re still on 80% of their wages contradicts that. Gallagher still stays in Dundee and was on Twitter a few weeks ago wanting a big renovation done at his house so he’s obviously no planning to move anytime soon.
Other than him, the boy Regan Hendry gets rave reviews at Raith, looked excellent the other night against the Pars. Connor Shields at QotS was mentioned as well, but looking at his record he looks a bit flakey, will have a purple patch where he’ll score for 4-5 games straight then go 2 months without a goal.

I would settle for mediocre next season, one step at a time.

We've been mediocre this season.
Surely seeing St.Johnstone win silverware again and Livi finishing top 6th is a signal that we should be aiming a bit higher?

I believe being mediocre is an Improvent on this season.
They two teams you mention are both mediocre at best. In fact mediocre would probably be enough to get into the top 4.

I've got a little optimism 🤣 would maybe mean a big change to the system though. Shanks needs something but I've got the fear that he, benji and mcnulty (ok not a huge loss) will be away and we will be missing in key areas. Tbf if Tony and micky have a few more fuchs up their sleeves, we might be ok 🤣

Watching the highlights of dons v livi. The boy thomas is a real handful and able to play the frontman/target man role. According to transfermarkt, he's out of contract in May.
Maybe no re-sellable at 30yo but proven at this level, free and might suit Mellons tactics

Hearing Sporle’s away. Potentially even before the season ends.

If we let him go before our Cup run is over then questions need asked and truthfully answered.
Boys been one of our best players post-Xmas.

Tek - feels like we rarely agree - nothing personal....
I'd say sporle has had good games and seems v composed in front of goal....but equally he doesn't hold position and there's been as many good games as there has been bad.
Never seems comfortable here and I'd imagine dundee is very different to Buenos aires
I wouldn't like to see him go before the end of the season tbf

My biggest issue with letting Sporle go is it often feels like he is constantly dropped by United despite not doing much wrong. Always played well in the Championship when coming on as a sub and then subsequently never got a chance.
Mellon has benched him a few times after good performances also. Can sort of understand why he would be annoyed tbh. Not that it justifies walking out (if true).

And that is the only real issue up for discussion just now.
We have potentially two of the biggest games in our history coming up, and a small squad.
It goes without saying we need.
1) Every single player fit and available for selection
2) A happy camp.
This situation needs rectified in the short term asap.
After the season is over then we can sort recruitment IN and OUT.

Mediocre comment.
No an awfy lot of point in this thread if you'll settle for mediocrity.

Christ, I had a sneaky feeling wee Adrian might have made his way into the 11 for Saturday... shocked to hear these rumours! Why would we let him leave early?

It depends on your definition of mediocre. I believe Aberdeen & Hibs are mediocre teams.
To replace either of them in 3rd or 4th position next year would be an excellent achievement.
Top 6 though has to be the aim.

The young Goalie Jack Newman has extended his contract to 2023. Expect we'll see him go out on Loan next season surely. Unless he is very highly rated, I doubt he is ready to be regular backup for us.

Just came across a bit cup half full.
Anyhow next seasons squad:
For starters we've got the basis of a sound tight knit club & squad.
We've unearthed some solid players - Edwards, Fuchs - potential gem.
Ok midfield.
Good down the right with Liam overlapping and always someone in to cover.
We've others such as Reynolds nearing end of use by date but still solid enough.
Great workrate.
We've others will come through including Deco and Meekison (who shone in his cameo.)
What's let us down is where we huff and puff and cannae get back into games where opposition get ahead then just sit in.
2 year deal for Pawlett is a mystery to me, that's one that does smack of mediocrity
New signings as always over the close season and January silly season is the key.
Mr O looks like he wants to develop his investment and Micky shares this positivity so surely for starters we can address what has been and continue to be glaring deficiiency down left - crying out for a left winger and as importantly for Robson to be able to build down the left a la Liam on the right. Who else is a hard ane, I'd like to see a marquee signing but cannae see it happening.
Homesick Sporle - gone.
McNulty - gone.
Shanks will go - who can blame him + if he stays her tae Jan window he'll go on a pre contract so it's lose/lose. How much we get for him ? 400,000 given the shitty showcase we've provided.
Benji ...say 600,000 ?
- Gives a mil
Pay off a bitty debt ?
Spend wisely, recruit wisely, and bring the young guys through.
Aim high.
