I wonder how much this is actually about loyalty to the current squad given that at a high, collective level, they’ve got us promoted, more or less kept us safe and taken a wage cut during all of this. To start trimming through popular squad members would be a sure fire way to piss off all of your squad.

He (Mellon) was quick enough to bin Paul Mcmullan, and he too took a wage cut.

He also contributed a lot more to helping us get out of the Championship than Pawlett did imo.

Re: Pawlett

We must trust the management, it's not like they're trying to destroy us. When they choose to keep certain players at the Club it's because they think it will make us better.

Admittedly there can sometimes be nepotism (e.g. McNamara/Mark Wilson) but there's no old pals' act with Pawlett or Connolly.

Re: Pawlett

He has certainly had injury problems, that's the big concern.
Maybe his new contract reflects that and he has been realistic enough to accept that.
Hopefully he will play a supporting role to Mochrie next season.

Re: Pawlett

There is more to this than meets the eye, Pawlett has apparently been doing lots of work with the kids and been very impressive whilst doing it, a lot of it in his own time, he'll be on a reduced deal and this could well have an eye on the future.

Re: Pawlett

Pretty meh over this one as I don't know what the plan for him is. If he's getting big money, it's probably not great. If he's on reduced money with reduced game time and able to help the kids, then I'm in.

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Exactly. None of us will know the details so no point getting knickers twisted over it.

Re: Pawlett

Agree with GC2. Would I have kept him? Probably not. But we don't see the guy day in day out. A couple of youngsters have mentioned him being a great influence on them in interviews and he even brought up helping the young players in his interview. We can only guess what kind of wages he is on. Some say its £2500pw... other say its £1500pw, I doubt he'll get a new deal on anything higher than £1500pw so I'm not too worried about it. He has shown in flashes this season that he can be a player for us. If he stays fit then I'm sure he will be over the next 2 years.

Football/Sport is funny, it must be one of the few places where someone being kept on in their job or getting a payrise is scrutinised and criticised so much. But we all have so much skin in the game that every little decision matters to us

Re: Pawlett

He has been a huge let down for us and would much rather see him move on and let the manager bring in a fresh face.
