I disagree. The manager wouldn't pick him every week if he wasn't good enough.
The opposition targets our left my arse.
I could have sworn that the goalkeeper was at fault with the first goal & it was Fuchs who conceded a daft penalty.
Nah, Robson's fault. Bothof them. Targeted you see.
Sorry to disappoint his detractors but Jamie Robson is on the road to having a very successful senior career. He picks him because there is no-one else.
There hasn't been for 5 years. Which is a ridiculous state of affairs.
I've stood up for Robson in the past but every game that goes by it gets harder. The reality he is targeted by opponents and if you can't see that then fair enough. But he is. It's obvious. He has all the physical attributes to succeed but his first touch and body shape when receiving the ball are truly awful. His defensive positioning is OK but in some games like midweek (particularly for the 2nd goal) he shows that his awareness of where he needs to be definitely needs work. He NEVER stops crosses. Now "stop the cross" is one of my least favourite sayings as its not as easy as just stopping the cross. But he truly never stops them because he is so scared of getting skinned that he stands off them. He actually has a bit of pace about him so I want to see him attack his man for once and be an aggressive defender.
Has anyone watched Freeman at Peterhead this season? I've watched 2 of their matches and from what I saw in those games, he is a really promising 1v1 defender. His sole aim is to not let his man beat him or get a good ball in the box, it was really refreshing to see someone who cared more about defending that doing anything pretty with the ball. Obviously that is at a different level but I'm sure I saw McInally talking about him along those lines recently too. I just feel Robson hasn't ever brought this into his game, but he needs to do it soon or he'll be replaced.
But we've all said it before and I'll say it again, the very very worst thing about Jamie is his ability to put a decent ball in the box. If you aren't the best defender than at least have a good cross on you (Barry Douglas), unfortunately for Jamie, he appears to have become a left back that is neither an excellent defender, nor is he an attacking threat for us. It's a bit of a shame and I'm sure both sides of his game will improve over time, but will it be enough for him to keep the jersey at United? hmmmm I'm not so sure.

Lafferty shouldn't have been on the pitch to score 3 times, clear red card tackle on L Smith.

You present a decent arguement LEK but I think some of your technical points re JR are a bit overblown. Football's a simple game (at least it should be) but I like to think I know when I see a player. He's not the finished article yet but hold on & he will be.
Robson reminds me a bit of Danny Granger. Technically a decent looking player. Can run, control and pass a ball. Most of us who kicked a ball about as a kid can do that though. I agree with LEK that he needs to focus on stopping the crosses. Either win the ball or concede a foul. At least that way our defence can try to get in position. Smith isn't much better for me in that respect.

I hope you are right Smedz! I'd be more than delighted to see him flying at this level. I just cant see it.

Robson isn't good enough for all the reasons given above, but against Killie:
Goal 1 - nowhere near the winger who got a good cross in without any pressure. For me the ball beats Deniz who's positioning is not wrong. Smith showed a bit of immaturity in not attacking it, but that's acceptable. As said above, why was Connolly not picking up Lafferty?
Goal 2- Robson's positioning torture. Has the chance to redeem himself at the line, but no dives to block a cross that isn't there. Not his fault nobody picks up the guy who has scored 10 in 6 though, albeit the cross isn't coming in if Robson does his job.
Goal 3 - Robson tries a one-two with Fuchs in his own box. Fuchs at fault too but why not just welly it up the field?
Robson isn't great going forward so if he features in the blame game for goals at the wrong end you really need to question if he's good enough. He isn't, unfortunately.

To be fair to Robson, Burke even at 37 is still a handful for most defenders in the league and don't think he got a lot of support.
