Might as well start a thread on this - first bit of discussion around it from Mellon:
He is saying that we are looking at recruitment for the summer, with lots of options, but not moving on anything until the summer as the players have taken wage-cuts and he feels signing a player of a pre-contract would be wrong considering the sacrifice the players have made this season.

Admirable and may be respected by the current players so can not be too critical.
However, we needed reinforcements last year, we definitely need them this year if we're to kick on and improve on this year. There's surely a balance to be struck on the structuring of any pre-contract and the reassurances given to the players on this front. At the end of the day, good recruitment will help the current group next year and I think they'll understand this.
In terms of targets, there's obviously positions we can focus on but I hope to see more pace up front and more composure in midfield.

Realistically, we need a left-sided centre half, a left back, 1 winger, a huge target man, an attacking midfielder/number 10 and that is before you factor in the possibility of Benji and Shankland leaving.
You could make a case that we also could do with another defensive midfielder if Powers goes and another wide player when Bolton's loan ends.
So anywhere between 5-9 players required if we are looking to progress from this season. A big job.
