12 points from safety?

If the accepted wisdom that 40 points is enough for survival from the Division, then we are currently just 12 points away from safety.

Our last 9 games before the split are -

St.Mirren (H)
Hibs (H)
Motherwell (A)
County (A)
Livi (H)
Killie (A)
Celtic (H)
Aberdeen (H)
Rangers (A)

Given how poor our goal scoring record is away from home it's vital we really try and win the home games.

Particularly the 'six pointer' against St.Mirren. Need to try and get a win on the road too.

Re: 12 points from safety?

Someone on EF posted this today:
Thepoints needed to finish above the 11th placed team in the last 6 seasons are:

33,34,36,37,37,36 We currently have 28 , so at the most we need 9pts maybe a bit less.

Therefore I’m hoping 10 points will be enough.

I'd say you will need a bit more than 36 or 37 this season as all the bottom six are so close together in the table and all capable of beating one another. And will.

There is no obvious team who are favourites for the drop of play-off spot as it stands.

Re: 12 points from safety?

It’s going to be tight going by recent results, I just never seen Ross County beating Hibs or Aberdeen but fair play to them. Kilmarnock are on the up and St Johnston picked up there first win yesterday fo a while.

I think we will do just enough to stay up which in my opinion is a big well done to the manager.

Hopefully 3 points against St Mirren who scrambled a point vs Motherwell curtesy of a debatable penalty and got beat from St Johnston, maybe they have their eyes on that Semi.

Accies to finish in 12th spot and it will be between us, St Johnston , Ross County & St Mirren for 11th.

Re: 12 points from safety?

History tells us that 40 points is more than enough for safety (isn't that an English PL thing?). I think we'll be there or thereabouts for top 6 after 33 games so hopefully won't have to worry about this relegation shite!

Re: 12 points from safety?

I'd agree that St Mirren look the team most likely to knock us back to the bottom 6 at the moment.  So three points v. them really is key.  On or two clubs are going to go on a run though, why not us?  We do need to be taking points and stopping others from doing so in the next 6 games.  If we can remain unbeaten and win 2 of them then 38 points may well be good enough to keep top six or avoid relegation.  Winning the first of those would put us in a really good position...

Re: 12 points from safety?

If we do need 12 points for safety it would be brilliant to gain them pre-split.
Pressure is on next 6 games cos the last 3 pre-split are potential zero pointers.
So if we are going to achieve that then 12 points from our next 6 games is a hard task.

I recon 9 will be enough

Re: 12 points from safety?

I think we'll be on 38 points after 33 games. Bottom six but a win away from safety.

Re: 12 points from safety?

Wrong attitude.

We shouldnae be looking over our shoulders worrying about others - basic - the only thing we can do is play to our potential and go into each game (realistically exclude uglies.) Aiming to win.

I hope and don't think Micky's telling them a draw is acceptable. Count on draws, drop points, get the jitters.

There's a good team in there, I still think we'll gie somebody a pantsing and show what we're capable of.

We should be looking at Fuchs, Chalmers, to a lesser extent Edwards returning + loanees.

How many points to top six ?

Re: 12 points from safety?

9 games left to the split. We should be aiming for 12 points in those games.

Re: 12 points from safety?

We've seen the handbrake come off when Fuchs plays. The more attacking style might be enough to change a couple draws to wins and secure top 6. lets look upwards.

Re: 12 points from safety?

What about Livingstone?! Just when you thought you'd seen everything. That's an incredible run they're on, they looking really hungry. They could split Aberdeeen & Hibs at this rate. The players? A bunch of misfits morphing into perfect fits. And Martindale's a complete novice manager with the look & sound of a vegetable stall trader at the Barras. Got to admire them tho.

On a side note/related issue....Is the effect on no crowds deepening? Livi without a crowd behind them, negative impact just 5%? Barely makes a difference, all 2,000 of them. Celtic without a crowd behind them? A massive 50% negative impact without 50,000 at home & the filling of the away ends on the road?

Re: 12 points from safety?

Top 6 would be an incredible result if we could get there (very much in our own hands).

With regards to relegation, I think those below us (and ourselves) as so tightly matched, we will just take points off each other. I cant forsee a set of circumstances (unless siegreist goes and isn't replaced...and even then fit is a stretch) where every other team below us hits a rich enough vein of form where they can all go above us now. (I hope im right and this doesn't bite me on the erse)...

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Not so sure its in our own hands mate as St Mirren can go a good few points ahead of us if they win their games in hand. A big if though. We have as good a chance as anyone but you'd have to say there is only going to be one place up for grabs at this rate with Livi going the way they are.

Re: 12 points from safety?

It's got to be between Accies, County & St Mirren for the bottom, probably in that order.
Should be us, M'well, St J or Killie fighting for 6th place, as you say there's no catching Livi.

Re: 12 points from safety?

I think we need to wait until the transfer window closes at the end of the month before making any predictions. Bad sales can lead to relegation whereas a decent acquisition can see top six.

No I would agree there won't be much happening but with so Many clubs skint those with a bit more cash up the food chain may well come in  with a few tempting late bids which desperate chairman🤔 may be unable to turn down.

Two decent results today with Ross County and Motherwell both losing.

Zero points registered since this.

Every single individual involved with DUFC has to understand the magnitude of this game for the club and the supporters tomorrow.

Yes, Mickey Mellon is ultimately the man responsible for results, formations and performances.

But i want to see a bit of fucking fight, blood, spit and sweat tomorrow, We seem such an easy touch, physically.

No red cards this season, we never shout or rally round the ref when decisions go against us, never see a player make a good old fashioned slide tackle etc.

Fucking show us some real fight tomorrow, eh?
