East football is incredible. You wonder why half of them actually bother with United.
EF has its place, I actually find it very enjoyable, the guys there have done a lot for the club down the years.
A member started United for kids and it's still running today.
They have had numerous hospitality days.
They sponsor a player normally and this year they sponsor Micky Mellon.
It's not for everyone but those who don't like it could always simply not log in, no need to take cheap shots at them.
I don’t mind EF. It is what it is.

Apparently looking to sign Declan Gallagher on a pre contract and make him one of our highest paid players.
Offline
Would be a good signing and a great bit of intent but the same story links Cardiff, QPR, Aberdeen and Celtic as having an interest. Even as our highest earner, he could earn double else where. At 29 and having just played so well for Scotland, if i was him, I'd be looking for my last big contract from whoever that happened to be and backing myself to break into the team

Not that I think we can afford him just now but Gallagher got me thinking about Steven o'donnell - who we were linked with in the last window (maybe under Robbie?)
Did he sign a new contract with motherwell?

The wheels cant stop turning just because we've agreed wage cuts. Covid aside, this owner has laid out his vision for United and if he wants that to be a reality then signing guys that are Scottish internationalists are what we need to look to do, along with many other things. Also, the players will recoup all of the money that they lost due to cuts during this time (if I understand it right), so the wage cut thing is a dead arguement (and I'm not having a go at you mate, but DCT have really laid it on thick with the wage cut scenario at Utd, even though every other fucking club has done it too).
My two cents on Gallagher are that he is certainly a player that would improve us. He is an upgrade on an ageing Reynolds and I think has more in his locker than Edwards and Connolly. He is a bit of a nut-job, but seems to have calmed recently. For what its worth, I'd be surprised if he ends up at United.
As for O'Donnell, I'm not sure if he did sign a contract at Motherwell, but I hope he does cuz I'm not a fan. I know he did well for Scotland but even in those big matches I was constantly bemoaning his lack of quality. With Smith and Freeman here for our RB position, I wouldnt imagine thats one we are pursuing anymore.

Gallagher chat just smacks of more Ashgar bluster. Granted he got us Shankland, but that's was a totally different prospect than a boy already playing well in the top league and looking like a stick on for a Scotland CH berth for the foreseeable. I think this approach continues to make us look daft.

100% Ashgar bluster as we aren't bringing anyone in this window and if anything more players will leave so we need a positive headline. My friend is best mates with DG and it won't be happening.
Move on.

Some people will never take to Ashgar....whether we are able to get Gallagher or not he is the type of signing we should be trying to make.

Nonsense. We need to be linked with players that have an inkling of a possibility of coming to us. The inkling with Gallagher is he still lives in/near Dundee but otherwise Ashgar bluster for me. The extreme is stating we are signing Messi - it isn't going to happen. Same with Safranko and the boy from Ipswich at end of last. We don't have the money and to pretend we do makes us look stupid and shows that we are wasting time with nonsense rather than using it to scout players that we actually could afford and also might improve the team. Jackson Irving would have improved us - it's been mentioned for ages - he's signed for hibs. He wouldn't have been demanding more than Gallagher. We seem to be being linked with guys that there is actually no chance of getting.

It's not nonsense mate. How do you know if its just a planted rumour? Have you got inside info to tell us otherwise? Its Declan Gallagher not Paulo Maldini. Also with Safranko - I think it was pretty well documented that we were trying to work something out/make inquiries so I dont understand your arguement here tbh.
You have no no idea what is going on in the background and how many players we are or aren't scouting. So I stand by what I said. People cant seem to just say "ah ok, good we are might be in for him, cant see it happening" they have to come out with a bash of Ashgar for no other reason than it follows the narrative that seems to be popular with many fans at the moment.

“This is all pish apart from that time when it wasn’t pish and we signed Shankland but next time it will definitely be pish”
Let’s just target boys from Falkirk and Arbroath going forward eh?
Dearie me. We might not get him but I would rather we put our hat in the ring and found out. And worst case scenario, it gets our name in the press as an ambitious team looking to go places which might have a knock on effect to other players we’re interested in.
The Asghar angle is nonsense and boring. We’re miles better on and off the park since his arrival too.

What has Asghar done at the club apart from benefiting his company? Even Ogren is starting to see and about time!

The entire club is set up around asghars position. If its not Tony, it will be somebody else...
However, it does come across that you have some sort of vendetta against AT - Did he pump your missus?

I still think it is nonsense. I'm all for us sounding out players, even ones that we are unlikely to get, my issue is why we need to declare our interest to the press? For me that stuff is a front to appease - we've done it consistently since Ashgar took over. I'd prefer that we didn't announce that we are after players that we are unlikely to attract - I don't think it makes us look ambitious just the same as we didn't think that the Dees were ambitious in trying to sign Clark (albeit a player they were much more likely to land than we are Gallagher). I actually think we will do no business this window and I'm OK with that - I think that is the right approach when we are cutting the wages of players so I wouldn't be moaning if we didn't get linked with another player until the summer. That's why I think the original comment that I commented on is nonsense.

More nonsense - we should be targetting young players from lower leagues - granted we apparently did with Nesbitt (failed) and maybe Laurent Robert's boy, but these are also players that bigger clubs are going for and therefore ones we are unlikely to land. The only exception to that is Shankland, a great signing, but I'm not convinced that a bigger club was in for him. So where there is I think it's a cheap hit for TA to hitch his wagon to that particular convoy as we won't get the player - he seems to think that's a good thing for United. I don't.
I have met TA and you know what they say about first impressions...
On the better off quote, I'd say we are better off on the park but genuinely much worse off the park. The commercial side has been a shambles.

But how do you think rumours start all over the world? People leak them mate. What if its Gallagher's agent? What if its a mate of Gallagher thats leaked it?
Also it never said we are trying to sign him this window. It said he is out of contract and we are interested. And why wouldnt we be? He is a good player. He lives in Dundee and there is talk he doesnt fancy moving. Maybe thats why we have a slim chance?
So I think my comments stands if I'm honest mate. Some people moan if we arent showing interest in players. People moan if we do show an interest. So the club cant win.

I still disagree. There is a pattern of this since Ashgar took over. If you think his agent is fanning the flames by suggesting we are ready to jump in then fair enough, but I can think of more likely clubs that would make Celtic or someone down south jump. When he is signed is not the dispute here. he'd likely be a pre-contract anyway so technically would not be before this window.
The nonsense was in relation to the club can't win statement. It can - it doesn't need to be getting itself linked with players it can't afford.

There was a period when Brannigan was there that we looked like we knew what we were doing on the commercial side but that has passed. Football wise we have improved, Academy etc. is positive. On the selling the product and communication with those that pay the wages (including sponors etc.) it's definitely now worse than pre-Ogren. Granted covid has got in the way obviously but you just have to look at the shop and kit sales to see that we are way off it.

Players it cant afford? I'll say again mate, its only Declan Gallagher. Granted he would get a bit more elsewhere. But that doesnt meant we cant afford him. I just think you are nit-picking just for the sake of it. So where is the line that says if a player is a real possibility or just a front from Asghar? This is going to leave me confused for the rest if time tbh.

Unfortunately a stick on Scottish internationalist is out of our league these days...and we can't afford him if he does actually command what his new found status in the Scottish game would pay. I'm not nit-picking. I have a genuine concern about the way Ashgar runs this aspect of the club. Clearly there is a line. Maybe Gallagher is your side of the real possibility line and you may be right, but I doubt it.
