It opens in 11 days.
Do we think we'll be dipping into the market?
Players like McMullan, Clark, L Smith, Pawlett and Powers are free to speak to other clubs. Will/should any of them be renewed?
Lots to think about this January in my opinion.
Is that right, I didn't realise these 5 aren't wanted.
We need a defence splitter but they're few & far between.

Clark signed/was offered a new deal last week. McMullan is wanted by the wee team, but who knows if McPake the snake will last another 9 days, also there was some chat about trying to get a swap for the guy at County we were linked to, but Yogi might have some thing to say about that. and he had his best game of the season on saturday. Smith was in the tully last night saying he'd probably like to stay, but things are on hold because Covid. no way is Pawlett getting what he's been on here or anywhere else. Powers might well go home, it's not really happened for him.

I feel a bit for Powers. The season was halted just as he was getting up to full match fitness and he's just not manged to get a run of games under MM. Would be very surprised if offered anything.
As for the rest. Pawlett needs to go I'm afraid. Unless resigned on much much lower terms. Its a strange one though as he recently moved to Dundee with his family.
L Smith + Clark are 100% for me. Both should be renewed.
McMullan I'm really not sure about. I think we can definitely find better.

McMullan played well on Saturday. First time this season he's been played wide right.

Hopefully we can get a few out to allow us to buy a CH with a bit of pace. This could transform MMs tactics.

Fucks sake man make your mind up, on another post you said it was ridiculous to suggest new signings and that we would be cost cutting.😏
I agree with a centre defender with pace but the priority is the midfield for me.
Of the above I agree with LEK that only Clark and Smith should be offered new deals and the rest told the can leave if they get any suitors.

This. Money permitting.
No the usual final afternoon of the final day.

of the five
Notwitstanding their agents ideas:
Clark (if not signed to stay already) a must.
Likewise Liam Smith.
McMullan coming into favour a bit lately.
Pawlett, love child, would to free up money but ain't gonna happen.
Powers, quality player, plays the ball out fae the back a bit which is exactly what we need, never gets a run although he might over festive season.
Suitors for Benji, Shanks ?
Covid 20 ?
We'll see, but we're desperate to get new blood in.

We're not bringing anyone in. it just doesn't make sense and if anyone who isn't a starter or potential starter gets something else lined up they'll be gone - include McMullan, Pawlett and Powers in that but only the first will potentially go.
We are going to gamble on hanging in there and given what we spend compared to some that's probably the right thing to do. Don't be surprised if some backroom go to.

i think they'll take a short and long term approach to cost management. So anyone surplus can go immediately without a fee. There will be several that will be told that i.e. King, Powers and maybe even McMullan who is behind Bolton and Chalmers for right midfield. Played well enough on Saturday but was that for potential suitors opposed to the standards we can regularly expect?
However, one eye needs to be on firstly avoiding relegation and secondly pushing on in the league. A shrewd recruit here or there (if we can free up some money on those who won't play) could be seen as an investment to help secure funds next year. So I wouldn't be surprised if we do bring in someone, even if it is a loan.
I'm not even that fussed about recruiting specific positions. We all know we have some obvious gaps but as long as the recruits are either composed, pacey and/or have an end product they'll make our team better. That could either be left midfield, centre midfield or a No.10.
Unfortunately covid, is robbing MM of the chance to shape the team into his identity. There's no way we hired him to come here and play 5-3-2, he's in survival mode of staying in the league this year from top down orders imo. That's ok but without funds, I don't know how we transition out of that.

Quotes from his agent too. Interest from Dutch and German leagues too apparently.
Disastrous to let him to mid-seaon unless it's silly money tbh.

In the current climate, the million quoted gets him imo. Desperate for cash and one of few valuable assets. Coupled with the fact the market is destroyed and no one will be buying. Deniz had never let us down in fairness and could always look for an alternative to challenge.
It’s a loss but a manageable one. The finances are more important by the sound of things.

I hate to see any important player leave, and if the big man is to go then I'd rather it was in the summer instead of in Jan. But Covid has changed the outlook. If we were offered over a million for a player we got for nothing then I could see the club really considering it unfortunately. I guess in the current climate you couldnt blame them. We are a selling club, whether people like it or not.

I'd be very very surprised if qe let him go for £1m.
Sell him quick before he flogs one!
Only kidding, I was his #1 fan from day one when folk were giving him the gtf.

Best goalkeeper I’ve seen at tannadice - in front of pernis, zaluska, the monk and weaver for me!
He’s obviously going to leave but he cannot be sold in January, that’s asking for trouble
Offline
Quite the turn around. Only earlier in this season folk wanted him dropped.
The climate and our financial troubles can’t be ignored. I hope we get more but realistically he’s a 28 year old uncapped goalie with only one spell as No.1 and 18 top flight games.
Ideally there’s a bidding war and a few clubs interested. If it’s true that English teams are scouting Scotland more because of brexit, I’ve no doubts he’s been recommended even when he wasn’t the one being watched. So that may help us. As will the good press he’s had.
My point is, if there’s only one serious bidder, I don’t think we can afford to drive too hard a bargain because it sounds like we need a chunk of cash ASAP.

If 1 HAD to go in January who would you pick between Benji and Shankland?
