You've misread what Lilley was saying there mate.

No sure what you mean Tek ?

Ok " Not productive for a striker at all" - same difference.

- "Where we are as a squad" Think he's become a fixture in starting XI as well as great squad man.

And to say Clarke's " not the type of maverick who will get us goal against the bigger teams" - that was crystal. I agree he's no Cifti, (who is !) but he is on present form most likely.

He's saying the style of play we adopt against the bigger teams i.e. ultra defensive is not productive (or conjusive)  to Nicky Clark being able to score against them.

There's no denying that.

Re: Nicky Clark

You've managed to read the sentence correctly at the second attempt but still ignored the context..... :D

Not mixed messages, but to paraphrase and put a different way - my main point really is Clark splits opinion. The truth as always, is somewhere in the middle. He is scoring goals and winning us games against bottom 6 sides and i'm more than ok with that.

He is unlikely and so far hasn't, scored or won us points against the better teams in the league. This is a problem for us going forward over a longer term. You say you don't care who he's scoring against but it's very material going forward that we have players that can show-up and effect games against better teams.

However, and in his defence, the way we are set up against these teams don't help him or any other striker at all to be productive.

Maverick was probably the wrong choice of word. But we either need to be more attacking in these games to give our strikers a chance or we need a maverick-type that can score goals from nothing.

I don't mind Clark at all for the record. The abuse he got for missing a couple of chances was far too over the top and linked to the 'championship squad' mentality some fans can't see past. The main thing for me is how the team is set up. Both goals came from strikers taking the ball and turning towards goal on Saturday. Not popping it back to a defender to lump forward. The more we focus on this, the more dangerous we'll be and the less pressure on the defence too.

Re: Nicky Clark

Fair enough.

Especially the bit about defenders lumping at aimlessly forward, half the time under no pressure,  half the time straight out for throw in.
