St. Mirren haven't played for 27 days...cue 3-0 defeat

Re: St.Mirren v Utd - Friday 6th November

27 days since they came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 on 90 mins at QotS in the Betfred. They got a bonus point in the penalties.
35 days since theylast played a league game. It was at Pittodrie & the home team got the winner in the last minute, 2-1.
They're a wee bit of a wounded animal just now with all the pandemic misfortunes that have befallen them.
And Jim Goodwin is an animal so I'm not wildly optimistic overall.
I'd be content (not happy) with a draw & ecstatic with a win.

Connolly and McNulty back in training. Chalmers called a 'long term injury' by the club but has his boot off and is going through 'rehab' according to the club's update.

Anything on Pawlett?

Sack that. Just saw him training in Utd's last tweet video.

Re: St.Mirren v Utd - Friday 6th November

Irrespective of games in hand, Buddies position on table means they need the 3 points and must attack - open games always suit us better.

3 v 1 us.

Hopefully a comfy win with Shankland getting a couple—needs some goals soon or that Scotland place and potential big move will be pie in the sky.

It's not where you're from it's where you're at.

For once, I'd probably pick him in my starting 11. He was very good in the first half last week and really should have had a goal so I think he has done enough to keep his place.

With Sporle, McMullan and Appere on the bench, we have some different options and types of player that can play out on the left.

I'd like to see Bolton have a more advanced role tonight. I want to see the Motherwell, Ross County away Luke Bolton that we saw. He seemed electric and unplayable at times.

Assuming Pawlett is fully fit he deserves a starting jersey, agreed. Last Saturday was his best game for Utd since the 6-2 Dundee Derby win.

We will need to disagree however about the current merits of Luke Bolton. Not convinced by him. He has pace but not much else imo. Though i hope to still be proven wrong on him.

He has been lucky there is no-one else to play RW other than McMullan (who MM clearly doesn't rate) in my opinion.

Re: St.Mirren v Utd - Friday 6th November

Bolton has been effective when actually playing RW, imo. The games mentioned by LEK in particular.

His effectiveness going forward has understandably been impacted by playing in a deeper role since Liam Smith's injury.

Hopefully, Smith's return will see Bolton return to the RW position and performances like we saw early in the season.

Re: St.Mirren v Utd - Friday 6th November

I'd ignore their inactivity. A red herring which doesn't mean much but lumps pressure on to us. Hopefully the win last week sees us playing a bit more confidently and keeping the ball which gives us half a chance to attack and create chances, building on some good signs last week.

Played RW against Kelty. A team 4 tiers below us.

Never kicked a ball.

In fairness, probably at his best with space to go into or 1v1 situations. A packed defence with a low block is not where his strengths lie despite the level.

To clarify, I meant he's better when played on the right with Smith behind. He was RWB for most of the Kelty game, Smith was sub

First 20 minutes have been shocking, can't find a pass.

Re: St.Mirren v Utd - Friday 6th November

Half time verdict.

Absolutely BOWFING.

Go to 442 and bring McMullan on.

McNulty and Appere on too at some point.

I'm unsure what formation we are playing, being honest.

Two poor sides , creating very little
could  come down to a mistake.

Re: St.Mirren v Utd - Friday 6th November

Seemed to do a little bit more upfront once McMullan and McNulty came on... I think. Couldn't really see anything in the second half. Dreadful game tbh.

Going to be a glass half full man and say its a point gained, since it's an away game.

Re: St.Mirren v Utd - Friday 6th November

An overall plus is the County - Livi result, another dead point. As Morphman says we did improve when the two Mcs came on, as far as I could see, which wasn't very far at all.

And ONE shot on target according to the BBC, which must have been Harkes' tame effort in the first half. But did Butcher not have a late shot on target too?

Yeah I'd agree with that and don't think there's anything more to add.

Re: St.Mirren v Utd - Friday 6th November

Positives--scratching the bottom of the barrel here but the defensive looked good at cross balls and both full backs again played well.

Negatives - - too fuckin many to list but basically we need to show a bit of ability/confidence on the ball, take it in, lift up your head and find a man(Harkes and Butcher).

Re: St.Mirren v Utd - Friday 6th November

Harkes a waste of space, offers nothing going forward.
Looked better once Powers, McNulty came on.
Sounded better once McMullan came on.

One minor nonetheless important detail often omitted, shows good attention to detail in Micky's coaching.
Every free kick against us; Reynolds on end, Edwards one in from end of wall. Edwards cleared it 2 or 3 times. Makes it hard to loop a free kick over wall.

Re: St.Mirren v Utd - Friday 6th November

Getting harder and harder to watch us.

Shankland, Clark, McNulty, McMullan and Bolton (who some seemingly rate) all on the pitch over the 90 minutes.

One shot on target. It's unwatchable.
