Re: Possible statue at Tannadice for Pat Reilly

If the money was available, aye.

It's only right that the founding fathers are recognised, without them no Jerry Kerr, no Jim McLean and no Dundee United - what a horrible thought, my life would have no meaning!

I don't disagree as such, but playing devil's advocate, I think some would argue that Jim already has a stand named after him and that's how he chose, when offered, to be honoured.

They can name the whole place after Wee Jim, build a statue of him and paint a massive portrait of him on the Shed roof it still wouldn't be enough.

On the original point would agree with the idea if money was available.

Yep

It would sicken me to have Richard Gough enshrined. But if we could replicate this image without Gough's head, I'll be the first to stick my hand in my pocket and chip in.

Re: Possible statue at Tannadice for Pat Reilly

Richard Gough may have eventually signed for Oldo Benny Boy but he was an integral part of the United Squad that won the league.

Whose head would you want there?

Re: Possible statue at Tannadice for Pat Reilly

aye he did become a bit tainted but surely we could rise above it...arguably the greatest ever right back we had...

Re: Possible statue at Tannadice for Pat Reilly

Gough must be the only member of that league winning team that isn't in the Hall of Fame. He's maybe knocked it back, I heard that Jim McInally did that

Yeah yeah Industrial Estate

Re: Possible statue at Tannadice for Pat Reilly

Gough knocked it back I'm sure. Given that we spent 15 years singing he is a child molester its probably to be expected.

Too much commotion

F**k it, stick ma heed there! Anybody but him. I'm 35 so he was a bit before my time. My understanding is that indeed he was incredible and I've always been impressed with him wtaching him on the old footage.

BUT, and before anybody starts - it's NOTHING to do with Rangers/Sevco per se - I couldn't stomach a man being enshirined who has been SO vitriolic and so hell-bent on damaging us.

His tabloid opinion pieces (the main weapon Ibrox use these days to get their propaganda out) in recent years laying into us are absolutely unforgivable.

I was once lucky enough to sit beside Jim for an evening at a United dinner. I'll quote him:

JM - "Fabulous player, fabulous."

Me - "But Jim, you spent almost all of the last chapter of your book slagging him off!"

JM - "Oh aye, as a person, he was an ASSHOLE."

Before I get accused of hating Rangers/Sevco more than I love United (which is a cheap-shot I've often had on other forums), I LOVED Andy Webster and I will always have lots of time for Jon Daly.

Whilst I'm on the subject of '83 personnel, I loved that Walter Smith attended Jim's Caird Hall dinner, now he can GTF too:

December 7th 2012 when asked about the boycott of the Tannadice cup game:

“I don’t know the entire background but Dundee United were fairly vociferous against Rangers (How? Where's the quotes?).

“So I don’t think any club can be expected to accept the kind of criticism that was coming from Dundee United and not have any reaction to it.

“The club are right – and that comes from a man who was 20 years at Tannadice."

Re: Possible statue at Tannadice for Pat Reilly

Maybe Pat Reilly would be the better option then or if there was one of Jim then maybe best be one on his own either way im sure both Legends would rather see the money invested in a more productive way after all these things aren't cheap.

Hear their shout, hear their roar
They've probably had a barrel of ale and much, much more
Hooray, hooray, hooray, yeah

Bang on.

Gough can get fucked.

I have had no problem with players leaving for Rangers like Cleland,Bollan,Dodds,Big Dunc etc.

But the difference is Gough stuck the boot into our club unfairly. The club that made him.

He would do well to remember that.

Re: Possible statue at Tannadice for Pat Reilly

On the subject of statues.

If it was ever financially viable, then yes i would like to see one of Pat Reilly.

And of course Jim McLean.

Re: Possible statue at Tannadice for Pat Reilly

On the subject i would quite happily subsidise a ornate fountain with Victor Feyrerra as it's centre piece
