McNulty, Shankland and Clark all start, surely we can score today!

Was my thoughts exactly before the game. And we're currently an hour in without a shot on target. 😩

I never thought Utd we're going to lose today so that was a positive as was Powers instead of Butcher. Disappointed with the subsution today ( not Smiths contribution ) but seemed negative as bringing on a defender for a forward. I would much prefer Utd to be more defensive in first half and as the game opens up go for it. Seigrist good again today but if I was offered 0-0 at the start I would have taken it but feel a bit deflated. Although not a bad performance don't feel we had 1 player better than a St Johnstone player today but as MM says we have a championship squad. The Team worked hard so hopefully going in the right direction.

Trying really hard to no become a moaning face twat as that is probably a decent result however
That performance stinks, what is it we’re actually trying to do ? Are we a lump ball team with 3 small strikers? The passing today my god woeful, we bring absolutely nothing to these games is becoming seriously hard to watch united, it’s like from the very 1st minute we play not to get beats, come on to fuck weve got good enough players to at LEAST play a bit of football and have shots on target
Fucking torture

1 point has me relieved having watched that.
Now in 6th place on points only but played mair games than some.
So badly needing a good forward passing midfielder that boosts confidence in moving the fk up the pitch and having a fkn go with belief rather that sitting too fkn deep and hoping the counter will get quality Shanks & McNulty a chance that steals the game.

Yeah I agree but I have been to Mc Dermaid park when we had Cifti, Gauld, Armstrong, Russell and Daly at different times and would have been happy to come home with a draw. We are not the dominant team and until we can prove we can compete with these teams 3 clean sheets in a row is an improvement.

90 minutes no shots on target. It’s nowhere near good enough.

Positives - 3 clean sheets in a row
Negatives - Only 1 goal scored in 4 matches. And even the goal scored was against a Lowland League side. More worryingly, we are barely having a shot at goal in the past few matches.
Feels like Benji's performances are papering over massive cracks in this side.
As i said last week i fear for us up until January. And even then we'd need to get our business done quickly in that window and not drag our business out till late January.

Turgid, couldnae stay awake.
1 point - better than none.
Performance - first twenty five some nice football.
Thereafter we are adept at providing better ball for opposition than we are for ourselves.
Very frustrating, for years we've been going into these games thinking we're going to hammer somebody. Only time it's happened has been v Dees, cannae count that cos they're such total dicks.
Benji gold, Shanks likewise, feel for him, Scotland striker getting nae ba, he's tracking back to deep in our defence and giving them lessons. We miss Chalmers.
Hopefilly Fuchs to make an impact.
The six points away earlier in the season v RCounty M'well looking more and more invaluable.
Still, it's a point.

We started well enough. Shots fae McNulty and Shanks. But then it kinda fell awa. There was a distinct lack of service to them.
The Johnies cane inta the gehm efter the half-oor mark.
The Johnies musta had a dozen or so attempts compared to 3 or 4. Canna believe we never had 1 shot in target. If it wasna for Benji they woulda won the gehm.
Apart fae blocking a dangerous shot fae Wotherspoon near the end, I dinna think Harkes contributed much the day. Far too many passes back to the defenders.
Nevertheless the point away from home is very welcome.

A lot of players have had too many chances (for me), and it's predictable and dispiriting to see them starting again every week. They'll all be good players, but some may need a jolt of being benched, others may be struggling with form or playing at a level above their abilities. Micky has often emphasised we have a Championship squad.
Having said that, most teams look around about our standard, and most of us may have been content with our league position presently if offered it at the start of the season.
But the performances and tactics are draining the interest out of me.

Possibly the back to back 4-0 hammerings showed MM just how limited the squad is. That is clear relegation form. He has just focussed on being hard to beat atm with the 5 at the back formation.
It opens up the debate are results more important than performances.
If we had had a go yesterday, created a few chances but ultimately lost would we be happier?
In saying that I expect a bit more attacking intention against RC next week.

Need more going forward, lacking creativity!

The change in formation and approach has definitely coincided with a change in messaging from Mellon. Gone is the we are Dundee United and now we're getting a more realistic 'long journey ahead' type message. Which interestingly, is what we would have got from day one with Neilson.
However, I think Neilson would be trying to get more from these players believing that they're good enough. Whilst Mellon has genuinely higher ambitions and no longer thinks that but is hamstrung by pandemics and finances.Â
I still think Mellon is the better long-term bet but he has to do something in the meantime to find a better balance between defence and attack. Just now we're seeing 5 at the back with 2 midfielders that are expected to protect the 3 CH's ensuring they're not exposed. It's working from a tightening up point of view but very difficult to then be up and controlling the ball, dictating the game.Â
