Scotland v Israel

Such a lowkey build up for arguably Scotland's biggest match since 2007. Understandable, i suppose. Football really is a poor imitation of the sport we knew without the fans.

Our hopes of victory further weakened by the sudden absence of Stuart Armstrong, Ryan Christie and Kieran Tierney. It would seem to be the usual case of if Scotland didn-t have bad luck, they would have no luck at all.

It's just the unusual situation which has brought about this bad luck, the same situation which brought us good luck in the Olomouc match v the Czech Republic last month.

Re: Scotland v Israel

I'm afraid despite some great games watching Scotland( Goughs winner against England in the rain) I have completely lost interest in the national team,  maybe style of play  , too many non Scots in the team. It's not just me as crowds are now abysmal. maybe my interest will be rekindled in the future but I don't care if they win , lose or draw tonight.

Re: Scotland v Israel

I think we'll lose comfortably tonight. Too many players in our team think they are footballers when they are still miles behind in terms of technique, especially in our much-vaunted midfield. At the same time we have lost (or look down our nose at) our Scottish traits of grit and determination which in the past used to negate our lack of ability. The pressing, tackling and work rate of our team, especially in midfield is abysmal these days.

The obsession of the last 6 Scottish managers that we'll get done for pace in behind doesn't help either. Or defence barely goes beyond about a third of the pitch these days leaving the midfield having to try and cover about 70 yards (and that was when they could actually be arsed putting in the effort, which they don't these days). And we wonder why our strikers always look totally isolated?

Too much commotion

Re: Scotland v Israel

Torture for the eyes tonight but at least the right result.  We'd get horsed by a properly decent team.  I know Andy Robertson gets a hard time playing for Scotland, but what makes him shite at crossing the ball and totally devoid of adventure when he puts on a blue shirt?  We seem to be less than the sum of our parts which is frustrating when you see teams like Wales, NI and RoI be the opposite.
I like Clarke, but he's gone for the difficult to beat approach, albeit who have we got at the other end?  I guess he's got to piss with the cock he's been given

Re: Scotland v Israel

Kept the game a surprise and just watched Sportscene highlights.

Poor performance but delighted we are through.

Serbia will be tough though and we will need to put in a vastly superior performance to have a chance.

Re: Scotland v Israel

I'd bin that Oli McBurnie if i was Stevie Clarke btw. Can't believe Sheff Utd paid 20M for him. He's hopeless.

Lyndon Dykes and Leigh Griffiths would be my front two in Serbia.

I'd have Lawrence Shankland and Kevin Nisbet ahead of McBurnie in the pecking order. Both of whom would be a good foil for Dykes via the bench.

I've tried tae give McBurnie a break in my thinking after he dissed Scotland in the video footage, then the other shit but tonight he confounded my worries with his lack of 100% in ways especially off the ball for the umpteenth time.

Aye. Bin him.

Like Dykes. Don't like The Thumb but rekon he's mair likely tae score than maist & on a big stage.

Happy for Shankland tae have less pressure than starting & be appreciated mair as a subbie than trashed by the nation right now for his & our benefit.

Regards Shankland being a Scotland starter i'd say he needs to learn to walk before he can run mate.

As much as i love our boy Shankland (and rate him) he has, lest we forget only ever started 4 matches in the Scottish top flight. Him and Nisbet should going forward in the short-term be considered our 'super-subs'.

Griffiths is the best finisher in Scottish football imo and has been for many years. And i really like Dykes.

Have rated him highly since Qots. Disappointed we never tried to bring him to Tannadice at any point considering he was under our nose for 3 seasons.

For this next huge match in Serbia, Clarke has to do what is right for our country and bin Oli McBurnie and Ryan Jack. Both of whom are mediocre and have a nonchalant attitude.

Call-up Griffiths, Nesbit. And hopefully we get Armstrong, Christie and Tierney back.

Fucking GO FOR IT! Bin the negative, backs to the wall pish.

Re: Scotland v Israel

I keep thinking McBurnie must have something and still hope that he builds a partnership with Burke at SU which will benefit Scotland.  Wilder is nobody's fool so he must see something in the pair of them that others don't.  For me I agree base the attack around Dykes and get the right player playing off him (not McBurnie) but I'd keep McBurnie and Burke in the squad with the hope of them forming that partnership at club level.
I'd agree that Griffiths is probably the best foil for Dykes at the moment although Shankland can really improve his all round game by becoming that player.
I actually thought the defence did OK against a couple of players who are a handful - it was actually Andy who was struggling most with the boy Dasa who I thought has been excellent in all the games we've played them.  Dabour, Solomon and Zahavi all decent players too.  Given we were without 7/8 players who would arguably be starters it was good to get the result and Clarke was right - if McTominay and Cooper had slotted their headers and Andy's free-kick was a foot the other way then we actually win comfortably and we are delighted.  It will be backs to the wall in Serbia - although its doable.

We won't bin playing it safe mate but totally agree.

Need to get The Thumb in and at least get Nisbet in and around the squad like they did Shankland when they got a surprise how good he looked amongst the so called big stars on megabucks.

Might really surprise opposition if we break intae attacking style with lesser paid starlets at a point in a game under Clarke.
