Apologies.
It was Conway i meant.

Think it's just calm, cool heads from Mellon when he is probably and rightly concerned with the situation. He's playing the game, talking up the current players and making sure they buy into him in case they are needed. He'll know what he needs and who he wants. We'll move quickly after arbitration is finished (if successful).
Similar to the coaches, the two guys are capable of stepping up in the interim, talking him through the current squads strengths and weaknesses from first team to development team. He's coy on his old assistant, i'd expect that to happen soon without him having to send out an SOS in the media.
Agreed. Asghar/Ogren strategy is long-term so I would assume MM has been promised time to implement things his way.

Agreed. Either that or enjoys stirring things up a bit.
In recent times, I don't think he's alone as either a hoaxer or stirrer.

What’s with the panic re. signings?
1 - Mellon’s been in the door a week
2 - were still in the middle of a pandemic so trialists aren’t happening
3 - he has yet to get his management team in place
I’d be more worried if signings WERE being made as there’s little doubt they wouldn’t be fully vetted by the new manager.
Stick with the current squad. Get them fit and ready. Add quality if/when the opportunity arises
Panic signings at this stage = more Loemba’s, Barton’s etc 🥴
The panic for me is the season starts a 2 weeks on Saturday, we have 2 fit centre halves who are prone to the odd injury, do we have any wingers apart from a striker who could player there and boy who has played left back his whole career? For me it’s a massive worry, I understand mellon has just came in the door but for me these issues are huge, we must get off to a good start

In any ordinary season I’d agree with you but this year is unprecedented. There will be some teams you don’t expect that will make bad starts this season just down to the disruption.
There will be some great players still unclear on their contract situation with their current clubs that will become available which we would ordinarily have no chance of signing. It’s these types I’m more hoping we land. All about staying patient.

Welcome to the internet , I don't think this forum is especially bad to be fair,
Personally I don't share your opinion of the interview, I thought everything he said made sense. How many times did he mention poker in the interview. He's hardly going to show all his cards...
Proof is in the pudding though, some teams are going to struggle at the start of the season for sure, we could easily be one of them. I am more optimistic than I was with RN in charge though, that is for sure (and that is without MM doing anything)

Agree. Given that all the talk when Neilson left was about his supposed unhappiness that Asghar was deciding who to sign not him (this structure was also cited as a barrier to Wright coming in), it does seem strange that we appear to have no signing targets lined up when it is blindingly obvious that we need another wide player (we used 12 different players in the wide left position last season) and a centre half minimum, a fact alluded to by Neilson before he left and supported by Asghar.
Maybe that talk is wrong about who leads on transfers after all (personally, I thought it was more a case of the HC and SD working together and mutually trusting each others recommendations) but surely to goodness MM would have been told (and spotted himself early doors) that these two positions were needing filled asap and that a list of potential targets already identified under Neilson for these positions (eg the Finnish boy and Findlay etc) would have been put to MM to consider so we could try and get the ball rolling before the season starts.
It's a lot harder trying to sign players if you are hovering around the bottom half of the league which we could be with the current squad, especially if Shankland or Butcher got injured by October.

I’m sure we’ll be making moves behind the scenes but no major transfers will be completed until the court case is concluded. Players won’t commit and we won’t commit to the finances involved until we are assured that we are going to be in the premier league. It’s frustrating and not United’s fault but it is reality unfortunately.

It's harder to attract if there's a risk we'll be in the league below both in terms of attraction and whatever the budget/max weekly wage would have to be in that circumstance. Prudent but frustrating.

Apologies if already posted but haven't been on lately.
Connor Jennings (28). Striker, been with Tranmere for 4 years. Just announced he's leaving, and he's getting the same reaction on social media that MM got from Tranmere fans. They adore him. On the face of it, his scoring record isn't brilliant, but MM will know exactly where the boy's strength lies.
Anything in it? Maybe.

Scored over 100 goals in his career. Not prolific every season but certainly can add goals to a side. Interesting one.
According to Tranmere Facebook page Jennings has signed for Stockport

Aye I'd much rather he came out and said - ach United were really pish last season, did you see the nick of Alloa, Arbroath etc? That would give the fans such a lift and make the players feel really good about themselves.

the arbitration not being until next week (if true) will scupper any chance of seeing something on this thread I think. Massively impacted by this whole process to the point of unfairness now.

Correct, I think every other premier league team has made at least one signing, some have signed 4 or 5. We cannot sign anyone until this shit is sorted out, completely unfair.

Personally I don't rate Butcher. He's really slow and makes too many late tackles. I think he would be a liability in the SPL. However, now that Hearts are after him I'd like to say that we should hang on to our ace midfielder and ward off any suitors by slapping a £2million price tag on the Butcher
First bit - late tackles: exactly what we need, how many times were we bullied pre Butcher. Also cannae mind ae him getting sent off last year. Indeed he showed maturity a number of times to get booked early (v fun comes to mind) and be restrained thereafter.
Late tackles - Davie Bowman - awesome.
Second bit- love it.
SuperMario - zero signings - yeah it is a wee bit silent on that front.
I vividly recall Butcher's debut when he was first signed. It was against Thistle at Firhill. Apart from being extremely lucky not to have been sent off, I thought he was great: First to every ball, never let the ball bounce, made his presence felt and had leadership qualities. The next morning my Thistle supporting neighbour rushed up to me and said "That boy's an animal"
As much as we all hated Goodwin or Scott Brown, you would much rather have them on your side.

Hearts have apparently made a bid for Butcher.

Highly doubt they have made a bid. And I really highly doubt if they have that it would be enough for us to accept it. Hope your mate is talking shite buddy 😊
