Touchy Subject that needs addressed

The NHS, 50% of Women and 43% of men down South are on a regular prescription costing 15bn a year, we all know many who rely on this service and some who abuse it.

Is it time for radical reform of our spending or keep the status quo ?

Re: Touchy Subject that needs addressed

That is some wedge.

Could a lot of it come down to the doctor who is prescribing the prescription? However if doctors become more stringent it is likely the patients who are actually in need are the ones who will suffer most and the fly bastards will continue as per. I fucking hate chancers/fakers etcs.

Like you say, its a difficult subject.

Missed any report, so please excuse the ignorance.

Could it be methadone, statins or anti-depressants?

What's the definition of down South, is it Engurland, cos NHS Engurland and NHS Scotland are radically different?

Is there any connection with private enterprise threatening ?

A link would probably help greatly.

Yes, Methadone, statins, anti-depressants etc

Yes it is England but would imagine it would have affect in Scotland too bugsy.

Scary statistics when you consider the rise in cost of the NHS in Britain is way way above the rate of inflation.

It's moved down the list now, see nearly 50% take prescription drugs topic dated 10th December

Re: Touchy Subject that needs addressed

Fair enough, St O, but I can't vote for radical reform because I'm assured that my 6 pills a day will prevent a repeat of my heart attack from 14 years ago (so far, so good), and I have been advised that the cost of preventative statins is much less than the cost of reactive heart operations/treatment.

I'm willing to believe my doctors due to the science but, as a chronic cynic, still have a constant suspicion of the influence of pharmaceutical companies.

Methadone, I think, is a mask rather than a cure, just like ant-depressants, but alternative treatments (not prescription drugs) would probably cost more in the short term, but could be more effective long term.

Unfortunately, NHS costs are going to outstrip inflation as long as they auld cunts survive due to scientific progress improving longevity.

I just hope the medical profession can appreciate the difference between prolonging life and protracting death, but would hate to draw that line. Protracting death could be the higher cost and benefits no-one (wee bit O/T for the last para).

Re: Touchy Subject that needs addressed

Lol you boys hang in there, I'm merely stating that's a mental statistic and like your goodselves there are millions more deserving too but there is some that don't and some that sell it on and maybe even one or two doctors are getting led up the garden path or carried away when it comes to prescribing. I do think this can be looked at more closely to stop it spiraling further out of control imo.
