I'm with you there Pat. From August they will start packing them in in the schools where it is totally impossible to distance.
I've said it for a few weeks now. From October well be back at Tannadice as long as we stay alert.
Having read the guidance for schools re-opening, and yes it’s early, you’re way off the mark with this. We’re looking at kids either having a 2 day week or week on/ week off to limit numbers. Only the youngest kids will be allowed to break social distancing, but only in a small defined group, that can’t change. They’re also looking to convert halls/leisure facilities/council office space if possible to create more education space so kids can be spread out more.
It may change quickly, hopefully, but I think we’re a long way from that tbh.
You can read all the guidance you want but I can assure if schools are to open there will be very limited social distancing. classroom are too small to have 2m distancing. I can also assure you no other spaces will be converted into teaching areas. For a start there is not enough teachers for this and no new money available. 2 day weeks will not last long as parent's will have childcare issues.
Plenty other countries are managing social distancing in schools reasonably well.
They’ve already asked all recent retirees back, the classrooms won’t be full, that’s why it’s a 2 day week or week on/week off and I know locally there are other spaces definitely being looked at. Will it work perfectly, of course not, but it’s what they’re doing.
Anyway on the football hopefully it’s soon, but there’s no chance I’ll be rushing back until it’s safe.

On the one hand we're dreaming up well meant but impractical and unenforceable social distancing.
On the other we're asking the players to go out there and get right up one another's dates.

No point in arguing here but speaking from the inside what they say they are going to do and what will happen in reality are 2 entirely different things.
Teaching numbers have been cut beyond the bone 20% have underlying health issues on top of that. No 60 + year old is coming back to a classroom anytime soon. Due to the shortage of PPE teachers now don't need it according to the guidance.
Schools have to go back I'm totally supportive of that but please don't believe any bullshit government guidance.
Looking forward to August 1st though.

I was but jesting when I typed 'if they reduce social distancing to 1m', but for the sake of arguement 1 person in every 2nd seat can't be a kick in the pants off 1m - I'm taking a tape measure on my return to Tanners. The Jerry might be a bit tight but the Dode & the ET must be bordering on one metre?
And can I just reiterate this 'social distancing' is getting right on my threepennies & is a load of shite. I was in a queue at B & Queue and if I hadn't been standing on my wee 2m line I felt as though I could have been shot. When I got inside it was every man, woman & child for themselves as we wrestled for the last few tins of fence paint. Social f'n distancing is so full of incosistencies it's not real. A better government directive might have been 'no hugging, slobbering or kissing' though to be fair I didn't even know any of these people in aisle 43.

Social distancing isn’t a load of shite. The idiots breaking inside these shops are the load of shite. There aren’t inconsistencies in what you described In the shop just people breaking the rules. It’s different for essential things like firefighters/police/ambulance staff, but they are at increased risk because it’s different. If you’re willing to put yourself at increased risk to fight over fence paint instead of keeping distance then that says more about you than the rules.
And do you really think the seats at Tannadice are 1 metre wide?

And do you really think the seats at Tannadice are 1 metre wide?Except for a few numpties kicking about with face masks on, everybody else can see that social distancing is unnecessary. Seasonal flu took more lives in the UK last year yet there was no lock down (even the term 'lock down' reminds me of a prison) or people wearing plastic gloves and surgical masks.
The rules around social distancing are also inconsistent. You can sit next to a complete stranger on a bus to work but you can't visit your parent's house. What's all that about?
The government have made a complete mess of this. Locking people in their own homes is beyond the pale. They should just admit that they've made a complete arse of it and allow people their freedoms. Including, sitting next to your mate at fucking Tannadice!!
And kill loads more folk, great idea.
The govt did make a mess of it btw, by not putting measures in place sooner and stopping tti. Down south you can see cases are going back up because of the easing and the VE day pish, but yeah getting to hold hands with your mate at the games the priority.

358 new cases & 74 deaths in Scotland last week (Sat - Fri)
5 weeks ago that was 2,288 cases & 347 deaths. We obviously hope the trend continues for the next 5 weeks. Various restrictions will continue to be lifted.
Should we just hold off on the August 1st date & pencil October in?

We'll agree to disagree.
You're right, I haven't lost any relatives to covid19 but, let's be honest, not many have.
At the time of writing, Scotland has had around 2,400 deaths, in a country with a population of 5,500,000. As a percentage, it's around 0.04% of the entire population - 0.04%. A figure that can hardly be construed as the plague upon us requiring the strictest of measures never before witnessed in the history of our nation.
If this is the 'new normal' that is being proposed by our leaders - that we will be locked up in our homes for months on end, when a virus has a fatality rate of just 0.04% - then we'd be as well consigning ourselves to our homes for the rest of our existence. Maybe this seems reasonable to you but, personally, I think that it's ridiculous.
Many people furloughed from work, blissfully unaware that they won't have jobs to go back to. It'll be interesting to see just how fucked our economy is once we return to [the new] normal - whatever the fuck that even means. I'd guess it'll be much worse than the 2008 recession - more like a decade-long depression, at least.
The fatality rates in Scotland, incidentally, is about the same as those countries which didn't impose lock downs, social distancing etc.
Anyway, let's hope that we can get to Tannadice really soon.
And what would those figures be if we didn’t have this new normal?

Sweden have adopted a much more relaxed attitude to Covid than Scotland and many other countries.
The result? The highest Covid death rate in the World per capita. In other words, a complete disaster of a decision.

Regarding the differing views on handling the Covid-19 situation, it'll be some time before it's known what has been or would have been the best approach, so to move away from the disagreements...............
.........in the Bundesliga topic, I've mentioned that after 33 games behind closed doors, there have only been 7 home victories in total. That's below 22%.
Assuming the Scottish season kicks off with no spectators present, then at some point fans are allowed in to see the matches, will some sides feel disadvantaged playing certain clubs at home when they might have preferred to be away, with no fans in the ground? As an example, I'd rather play Celtic at Parkhead with no fans, early in the season.
I can see some clubs complaining, whatever happens.

I see. So what you are saying is that we should not have done what we have? I.e. we shouldn’t have shut everything down and just carried on as normal?

The article which you have linked says that Sweden has suffered 4,000 deaths and has a population of 10,000,000. The rate is the same as Scotland - 0.04%
I didn't say Sturgeon had done a good job.
She has got things right eventually. But her actions were all a bit 'after the horse has bolted'. Same as Boris.
Schools, colleges, nurseries, general shops and workplaces should have been shut down about 3 weeks previous to what they were.
On Sweden. I think despite their Government's frankly ridiculous lax policy, most Swedes wisely adopted the same attitude as most other European's. I.e. self isolation.
Otherwise their country would have really suffered.

Anyway back on topic of getting back to Tannadice.

I’m sure I read somewhere that the WHO said 1 metre social distancing is safe, and that countries have adopted 2m for safety.
If, somehow we adopt the 1m rule down the line, the ‘every 3rd seat’ rule could be easily enforced. Then ideally, every 2nd seat with further focus on clean hands / masks

Absolutely. I think come the Autumn time a % of supporters getting into the ground is a real possibility.

I heard his comments on signing players and it felt like he was unsure at the moment of how many we could sign.

Fingers crossed and I am sure if this was at least proposed along with the fixtures being released next week then we will see a wee upsurge in St.
Do you think we can halt Celtic's 10-in-a-row?
It's all the talk, isn't it, well between them & the other lot anyway?
Great to be involved in it, can't wait (but guess might have to).

Loads of conjecture on here.
Sweden, politics etc. etc.
What I can say for sure New Zealand - closed the borders (ie airports/cruise liners) & started 4 week lockdown as of March 6th. Borders still closed.
No new cases in 11 days.
Open Tannadice at your peril. Resume training Jun 11th - folly.

Almost 3 weeks since thousands of people gathered in Glasgow to protest all day.
Only around 20 new cases of COVID in the past week all in (Glasgow)
If the trend continues nationwide in the next wee while, why can’t we be ok getting 7,000 in Tannadice for 2 hours, in 6 weeks time?

If it continues we shouldn’t be far off being able to get at least 1/4 of the seats filled.
Only concern at the minute is if the spikes happening elsewhere come here.
