I'll take it with a pinch of salt at the moment as there are no direct quotes fae anyone on either side regarding any potential buy-out.

SCOTTISH giants Dundee United are believed to be involved in negotiations to buy struggling A-League club Newcastle Jets from troubled millionaire Nathan Tinkler.
Dundee officials, including chairman Stephen Thompson, were in Newcastle late last week for meetings with key Jets officials and attended the club’s game against Wellington last Saturday night at Hunter Stadium.
It’s understood they inspected Northern NSW Football Federation’s new facility at Speers Point during their visit to the city.
Thompson is believed to have also held talks with FFA offficials while in Australia and has met with other A-League clubs including Adelaide, Perth, Sydney and Western Sydney during the past three weeks while in the country.
He was guest of Adelaide United late last month, attending an FFA Cup game against Central Coast, with the chairman saying at the time he was “constructing relationships” that could lead to promising young Australian players spending time in Dundee.
It is common knowledge the Jets franchise is for sale with Tinkler telling The Daily Telegraph in August he “can’t wait to get them out the door”.

Club statement one website. No sign of a denial anywhere in it. When did we win the lottery?

When is Stephen Thompson moving to Australia

Quite a lengthy club statement released that doesn't confirm or deny any actual potential investment in Jets.
Intriguing proposition to say the least.
Not sure how i feel about it until we heard any actual facts regards any buy out/feeder club proposal.

Interesting to hear from an acqaintance, who still owns a house in Australia, that he'd been in pubs in the far East and far West of the continent and encountered Utd fans both times.
WF, indeed.

I see this has surfaced again.
I have nothing to back this up but I have a feeling that ST is getting all his ducks in a row, bringing is a hefty wedge this January before selling up and emigrating to Oz.
The Thompson family keeping a stake in United and working out a deal with where both clubs work together for future player transfer/loans.
Like I said, just a hunch but I also think the "soft loan benefactors", or one in particular, is very keen to buy Thompson out.

According to the BBC the SFA are set to block this under the rules of dual ownership if he was to take on ownership of Newcastle Jets as well as United unless he is as smart or smarter than the SFA and or Mike Ashley remains to be seen. I do doubt however he would leave United in the lurch though as he's proved so far

Absolutely agree that he wouldn't leave us in the lurch, however we're in a better place now than we've been in the last 20 years.
IF he was ever going to sell up, this may be his best opportunity for some time as we're in the black, making profit, have sellable assets on the team sheet, future sales clauses on two of Scotland's brightest talents and a fully UEFA compliant ground.
No idea if he would even entertain selling United but I think he'd get a decent wedge if he chose to do so.

See this dual ownership thing, how come the likes of Man City seem to be able to do what they want but the likes of Ashley (maybe ST) can't?
I thought that if the clubs couldn't meet in direct competition then it was ok, ie 1 club isn't in UEFA so couldn't meet in Europe. This could be bollocks tho.
Not really sure there's any benefit in it for us anyway, unless it's our youngsters going there to play 1st team football on loan before their breakthrough here.
As for ST selling up, it's possible, it's not exactly a secret that there's an interested party and has been for a couple of years. If he does good luck to him, he's done a great job and the new owner can take us forward knowing the way the club works. Actually when you look at the appointment of David Southern in the summer it makes sense, getting the pieces in place early.

I await the end of Matt the Cat's ban to hear his thoughts on this move by Stephen Thompson.

@Andy i don't think your theory is a million miles away fae what will happen bud.
ST's daughter now lives in Oz (with ex-Utd player Luke Johnstone). Here's what i think could happen...
ST will buy the Jets, move over there and run the club.
There will be a tie-up between the Jets+Utd whereby they swap players i'e' our best Academy prospects like Harry Souttar,Luis Zwick,Cammy Ballantyne etc might go and experience playing over there and living for 6 months to a year.On the flip side Utd might take some of Jets best players once they're of a certain age+experience and if they've showed promise in their league.
The Thompson's will still for all intents and purposes own Utd.I DON'T think ST will sell his stake in the club i simply think he'll stand down as Chairman and let his sister Justine take the reigns, ably assisted by Derek Robertson,John Bennett,David Southern et al.
His sister was initially supposed to be appointed Chairwoman when Eddie's health was deteriorating.Maybe it's now her time. All conjecture on my part, but that's my gut feeling.
Watch this space i guess.Interesting times ahead. Not sure how i feel about all this.More info (or any info) fae the club required.

What exactly do Newcastle Jets have to offer Dundee United, probably, very very little. I just can't see it.
Think it would be better if he just came out and said, I want to make a few bob for myself and head to Oz to live rather than 'this will make Dundee United a global brand, will benefit the club etc' which I just really don't buy into personally.
