Mine was ' Get Off of My Cloud ' by the Stones, cant remember which shop it was (maybe Cathy McCabes ?) but my big brother was in a record club and could get so many a week and he asked me if I wanted a record,, being 7 years old and being so knocked out by the place and not really knowing much about music I asked for the one they where playing as I liked that one.
Looking back a no bad choice IMHO, loved the old record shops flicking through the vinyl records, asking if you could listen to it before you buy it then getting it hame and it jumps so you had to sellotape a coin to the stylus to weigh it doon!
And you try telling that to the kids today----- they wont believe you
I'll gie ye downloads FFS

Not sure exactly what was the first record/single I bought, was all CD's I must add by the time I started buying anything, but I think it was Perfecto All stars - Reach up (Papa's got a Brand New Pig Bag) in the 90's. Not the worst, but definitely not the best. Dance music was very much in at the time.

I was given a few tapes before making a choice of my own freewill, bought a dance compilation.
Had some old skool classic dance numbers: Tony Di Bart - The Real Thing, Prodigy - No Good, Gloworm - Carry Me Home, Atlantic Ocean - Waterfall, Livin' Joy - Dreamer .
Also had some total shite - B52's - The Flintstones (Changes their name to BC52's for this track - cringe), PJ and Duncan - Let's Get Ready to Rumble (I thought this was great at the time!), Take That - The one where they pumped Lulu

First single I went to the shop and bought myself was Mandela Day/Belfast Child by Simple Minds, I was 10/11.
But I used to buy 7" singles when in the town with my mum and the first one I chose was George Harrison, got my mind set on you when I was 8.

I got Now 20 on tape cassette for xmas 1991,and played it time and time again.
Was 12 when i bought my first one with pocket money which was the Altern8 single 'Active8',again on cassette.

Used to spend all my money of techno music, mostly ultra sonic, my mother would go ape shit.
Before I knew what techno/rave records to buy me and a mate went into Our Price and just asked for 'rave music.' The cock behind the counter sold us Tito Puente Jr. & The Latin Rhythm - Oye Como Va. We listened to the full thing wondering when the beat would kick in. That twat must have been laughing his tits off. Still got it.
Hamilton had Impulse Records round the corner, never went back to Our Price
Online!
I never liked the Our Price in EK either.Guys who worked there were affy 'High Fidelity' ie guys in their late 20's/30's who would grimace when you brought up your naive teenage purchase.
Avalanche Records in Port Dundas Street,Glasgow. Now there was a music store.Used to work round the corner fae it and was in spending my wages often. Now sadly gone.
Incidentally my auld man hated my brief flirtation with the rave scene too.And quite rightly.

When did Avalanche Records close? I thought it was still open, sure I had passed it by recently. Has been a while since I was last in. There is one or two down in the Merchant City which are not bad, all mainly second hand/collectors though.

Is Avalanche Records still open,Hammy?
I stand corrected then.
It was the one up near Bothwell Street i used to go in.I heard it closed.

It appears it has kind of gone. Just had a look and The Avalanche records on Port Dundas Street is now Love Music, so not too sure what has happened. Looks similiar, might have just changed its name.
Not too sure about the one near Bothwell Street, thought the Port Dundas one was the only one?
