The Winning Line

After today the winning line is down to 73 points required to finally get out of this league.

The earliest we could win it as it stands would be Inverness away but the way the others are cutting each others throats we could get it done earlier if we get the finger oot.

How many points do you think will eventually be enough and what game do you think we will finally be able to call ourselves Champions.

Queen of the South for me and I think 63  points will be enough.

Re: The Winning Line

I think QOTS game on the Friday also.
We could have already been over the line or a game away from it if we hadn't made so many fuck ups.

Re: The Winning Line

I don’t really want to go into our last 4 fixtures needing a few points.

Fingers crossed it’s done in the next 3/4.

Re: The Winning Line

I'm no good at predicting anything to do with United. Can predict a fairly accurate support home or away but that's a doddle compared to oor results plus others results which this is.

Thought ICT away months ago. Hope it is.
Had some epic trips up there already that are hard to top.

Winning the league up there would be a crazy weekend for sure.

Re: The Winning Line

Depending on ICT results with the 2 games in hand they play Tuesday and then the following week, along with their game at home to Partick at home at the weekend, we can be going into the Arbroath game with the potential to win it that night. Unlikely but you never know.
ICT play in the challenge cup that weekend.

Re: The Winning Line

Here's a scenario -
Sat Mar 21 we beat Alloa at home.
Same day Fun beat ICT away.
So the following Friday we need 3 points at Gayfield to clinch the title.

We draw at Gayfield..
We then need 3 points V QotS at home on Friday April 3.
We win & we crack the Veuve Clicquot.

There is going to be a Friday feel about winning it though.
4 of our last 8 games are on Fridays.

Re: The Winning Line

The whole getting across the line is starting to drag now, dont think any of us could have thought it would be as pain staking as it is back in january when we were still on that run. Glad teams around us are dropping points, big favour alloa did us yesterday but still cant see inverness really going on a run till the end of the season, they are too unpredictable form wise.

Fingers crossed we crawl across the line against Arbroath, horrible last 4 game run in and could be abit squeeky bum time with the way we are playing just now. Just the cutting edge has gone - was always going to be testing times in this league though, especially with the pressure and expectation of getting the league won early.

In January we hoped it would be done early.
In August we would have been delighted to be in this position.
Everything in perspective a 36 game season will have high and lows.
Hopefully it's at home so everyone who wants to see it gets the chance.

I agree that if we were asked in August would we take our current position then we would have taken it.

It is though in my opinion very important that we don't just limp over the line and that we sprint over it and carry it on to the last minute of the Ayr match.

Taking a bit of momentum into the final match hopefully a near sell out if its marketed correctly and giving nobody any reason not to buy in the early bird period for next year.

We need to build on this and can't start next season with any doubts who the manager should be  but for that he needs to get results turned round pronto.

Re: The Winning Line

I think it's possible (if not likely), that a nice away win for Dundee at ICT could help us clinch the title.

Which would be nice.

We need to win next two and ICT to only manage 4 point out of their next 4 games over the same period. I've not included Ayr, so they they could fk it up.

Re: The Winning Line

By the end of our second game from now on the 21st, we’ll have had..

Morton (a)
Alloa (h)

Inverness by then will have played

QOS (h)
Arbroath (a)
Partick (h)
Dundee (h)

It’ll be clear by then. IMO the finishing line will be in sight.

I'd agree with that.  At that point I expect us to be 13 points ahead with a superior goal difference and six games left to play.  That probably means we win the league at 4.45 pm on 4 April having not played that day.  If not then it's up to Inverness the following Friday with a point needed to seal it.

Looking back at the corresponding 4 ICT fixtures earlier in the season, they won two and lost two, accruing 6 points. You'd be content with them doing that again, making the run in easier for us.

Re: The Winning Line

Earliest we could wrap this up would be next Saturday providing we beat Morton and Alloa in our next two games and Inverness lose to Arbroath (a) Dundee (h) and Partick (h).

Hopefully this virus can focus the minds on the job in hand, let's gets this over pronto.
