Can any if the lads who were at the gehm say in all honesty how the game was in general.

Also having noticed that Ayr had 13 attempts on goal as opposed to our 5,  which oe the twa teams were the better side, if any.

We started off well for the first 10 minutes actually looked like we wanted it. We then fell out it a bit with the usual passing allover the place and general poor play. Ayr didnt look too dangerous in the first half couple of chances.
2nd half we probably had 2 separate decent spells which we put them under pressure. Harkes played through for 1 chance which the keeper got to first and theb Harkes again with a chance which he put wide.

Pawlett done fuck all when he came on and another wasted performance from him.

Also when McMullan went off with a knock i dont think bringing Robson on to play left was the right thing to do could have brought Glass on and changed the shape or brought on Sporle who has put in a couple of decent appearances on the left imo.

Re: Ayr v Dundee Utd - Tuesday 3rd March (7.45pm)

An issue with those wanting Robbie relieved of the job, which happens often in football, is who replaces him?

Most managers aren't too successful, and I recall an article stating the average span of a manager's career at a single club in professional football is one and a quarter years.

I've not been excited by Robbie's overall player recruitment, or the contracts dished out, or his tactics or team selections, then I think back to Csaba, Raymond, Mixu, Jackie.........

Edit: https://www.indeed.co.uk/salaries/football-coach-Salaries,-Scotland

Article linked for Feb 2020 states "The typical tenure for a Football Coach is less than 1 year."

Its a bizarre position for the club to be in.  Realistically we are going back up to where we belong, but a large and growing number of the fanbase have no confidence in the sporting director and management team.  Is it true what the others say that we bought promotion by throwing money at Shankland?  Beginning to look like that to me.  What if he does depart (he's hardly likely to stay if he is getting the current level of service and hard to see how that improves against better players) where are we then?  Back to relying on the Ashgar/Neilson transfer market experience - thanks but no thanks...

To me he looks frustrated as fuck about the lack oh chances we are creating.

If Robbie was to go I'd personally like to see what Tommy Wright could do with our squad and budget. I'm not to keen on the style of play the Saints play but you can't argue that the teams he sends out are competitive, maybe what we need for consolidating in the Premiership.

Not for me. If we go up and Robbie has us playing shite football and at risk of relegation, then yes, he'll go. Talking about replacing Neilson whilst we are in the position we are in is fucking farcical in my opinion.

Re: Ayr v Dundee Utd - Tuesday 3rd March (7.45pm)

I think we will go up and we will keep Robbie but after the latest run of poor performances discussing who you'd like as a manager to get your team playing good attractive football whilst consolidating our position in the top league is not fu King farcical but the result of watching drivel for the last few months and wondering when it's going to change and how it's going to change.

I think we will go up and keep him to.

However i think come November he will be away if he continues as he has been.

If we get a decent amount for Shankland in the Summer we should throw our lot into getting Tommy Wright and Kevin Nesbit for starters.

That is if we are actually serious about becoming a Top 6 side again and not just relegation fodder.

Do you think there is any chance whatsoever that they'd sack Neilson in the summer after getting us promoted? More and more people are suggesting this and I cant get my head round that thought process?

I get that its an opinion and everyone is entitled to one, but even the notion that any club would purposefully change managers after a promotion literally baffles me and it baffles me even more that people are actually talking about it like its a possibility.

Re: Ayr v Dundee Utd - Tuesday 3rd March (7.45pm)

I was originally replying to Pat Reilly's post # 52 about who could replace Robbie. Realistically When I watch United play I'm hard pushed to think of any manager in the Championship who couldn't have done what Robbie has done given the budget / players he has had.

That obviously doesn't include McPake, he's doing a great job where he is 😉

Robbie deserves the opportunity to see how his team could perform in the top league, he cannae be sacked, that would be irresponsible.

At the same time, I've not enjoyed recent games, but it's not about me.

Re: Ayr v Dundee Utd - Tuesday 3rd March (7.45pm)

I still hold the hope that we can get back to the more adventurous performances we saw against ICT, Dunfermline, Morton and Dundee where did actually play more attacking and effective football. I agree though that these performances have been too few in number. Personnel, a poor transfer window and Clark's injury haven't helped. However, Neilson seriously needs to take the shackles off in games though because the current stuff being served up is utter pish.

It would be good to see some attacking football and finish the season on a high

He won't be sacked. Mores the pity, as the writing is on the wall for me as to how things will pan out next season under him.

It'll be boring, negative 'backs to the wall' pish every other week and just setting the team out not to lose.

More than capable of doing it and we now need to change as most teams have worked our tactics out and set up to prevent us, and to be fair given recent results they have worked

Re: Ayr v Dundee Utd - Tuesday 3rd March (7.45pm)

Posted something similar on the other thread.  For those that can't see the problem, in the hopefully unlikely event that we finish second, do you really fancy our chances against a premiership team over two legs?  I certainly don't.  We have dropped so far off the pace since good performances against an average Hibs team that it is untrue.  The manager needs to look hard at himself in the mirror.
